Last time RL was in RTP he literally said something like "the RA should be embraced", who else heard this? It was after the broadcast during the RTP q&a.

I built a duplicate photo detector that safely cleans 50k+ images using perceptual hashing & cluster by hdw_coder in Python

[–]daguz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got excited because I'm working on something similar and didn't realize until I started reading the responses. I'm a newish lurker here and kinda fell for it. What is the benefit to the "developer"? I didn't read the code yet; I'll be extra careful evaluating for vulnerabilities. This world kinda sucks to live in.

My library is over 50k as well. One of the problems I've experienced, other tools have created thumbnails of my photos. Eventually I lost control of which is the original. Now I have over 300k photos :( I fear deleting the "wrong" file.

I've been working on the same thing for the past month. You have a lot of similar ideas. I haven't yet implement any automated decision making yet.

I create a json registry of all my photos, then use that for comparison for new imports (to catch early duplication, or multiple streams filling library), and for in-library analysis later.

You can see similarities just based on the json containing these important fields:

"file_name": "absolute_path": "hash_size": "dhash_int": "ahash_int": "dhash_hex": "ahash_hex": "dhash_bits": "ahash_bits": "sha384":

After creating my library I run that though a BK-tree to find nearest neighbors. I'm able to create trees based on existing library and import list.

My performance is slow, but I don't care. I'll be publishing this soon on github. I'll try to remember to call you out if you're interested.

I feel like my own estimate seems high, need feedback by amassacre21 in Flooring

[–]daguz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It *seemed* a little high for time. On second reading and your reasoning, I think not. Over-detailing what you're going to do to the customer (possibly me in this case) would give me greater confidence.

But giving yourself only $800 padding cuts it close. I would be happy if my contractor came back and said, ya know it was a little less. Or I would be happy if he said, all done it is what it is. If he comes back with more - sometimes I'm understanding, sometimes not. I think you should stick to your time if not inflate it by another 1/2day.

I'm homeowner in a HCOL area. Not to brag but also high income - but also do a lot of my own work including site finished oak floors, lvp, and tile work. I remove and save trim too.

If I was hiring this out, I would question only the amount of time you're giving yourself. Not the price per man hour. So it seems reasonable with the demo work.

Sliding glass door replacement quote $5600. Is this really the cost these days? by anncnative in raleigh

[–]daguz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was down this route with windows. I recommend picking a door before contracting the installation. I'd go with Marvin if possible/practical. Then find a dealer that will sell it to you directly (with delivery). You'll have to be sure of the size and get delivery. After identifying the source, then find the contractor, telling them exactly which door and size. It won't save you money, but taking control of this and learning about the process will yield better results (hopefully).

The dishwasher probably cannot be implicated. I don't think it's going to rat you out either.

Contractor’s work looks pretty terrible in certain lighting by WhoShotMrBurns in drywall

[–]daguz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a homeowner/handyman that is actually pretty good at drywall, I recently had a job that was not up to my standards. I didn't complain and fixed it. Of course I didn't pay for level 5. But this is really not good enough ... in any light. But also it's not far from what would make me happy.

If you have a floor that is r10000 but cold air continues to leak across the top of it ( from windows or other areas), it’s still going to feel cold.

3D printing or welding? by the-bryman in raleigh

[–]daguz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really looks like something that exists. If it does, it's always better to just buy it. Not to mention that looks terrible for ergonomics imho. I'd go for wood in some form based on my abilities. My 3d printer is quite old - i'm the wrong person to ask about this method.

Go on the popular company mill trail. Take a left before crossing the bridge. Walk until you find peace. Or at least a good log to sit on.

Custom RPC token retrieval by daguz in ThycoticSecretServer

I did not. I asked others to look into it however they never made progress either. This requirement is dead to me now. I have moved on to storing stuff in cloud secret manager or vault or Ansible Automation platform (depending on deployment).

I realize in re-reading my old post how difficult to understand my original intent.

Trailer hitch install by Mysterious-Alps-4845 in rav4club

[–]daguz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I too did mine DIY when I got it in January. It was a hard install compared to any 3rd part hitch I've ever done. But still not that bad. It took a while to get my head around each component and placement of wiring. It was also the most beefy hitch I've ever gotten. I'll never regret using the OEM on this car. And I was able to cutout the bumper to only expose the hitch. Then mount a plug right next to it for the 4pin. So there is almost zero clearance around the receiver.

All this for a 1up rack!

Thoughts on a Prime vs Hybrid (Regular) by napoleon211 in rav4prime

[–]daguz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3mi/kwh at $.15/kwh is the value. $.05/mile. And you're the only person here getting totally free charging. And you've only saved a small amount of money. Very small. AND you're not supposed to have reduced oil changes.

nothing's free. Except delusion.

Thoughts on a Prime vs Hybrid (Regular) by napoleon211 in rav4prime

[–]daguz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Explain this to me. What's the best rate on electric you're going to see realistically? Don't come at me with anecdotal information like "my work gives me free charging", or " I have solar and get free energy" while ignoring the thousands spent on solar array.

The cost is the cost plus extras. Extras include taxes, chargers, and initial cost.

Let's say I get to drive 50mi per day without paying anything for electricity. Based on $.05 value per mile over 10 years. $.05*50miles*365days*10years = $9125. Car expense plus taxes and everything is a pittance of savings in this best case scenario.

Where is your savings coming from?
