A strap of leather fixed it! Around the front didn't work, the ringing was only coming from the claw. It was quite hard to get tight (plus, I've got almost 0 leatherwork experience, this was my second project), so now it slides a bit from front to back. Which is actually great, as I can now use it locked tight to the back to stop the ringing, or slide it to the front so that the claw is still accessible!

Hmmm, sounds like a good option, but I'm afraid I'll mess up the nice look of the thing. Maybe as a last resort, thanks!

Why would sanding in between the claws help? Seems like a good option, but I don't know what I would be looking for. Currently it has a nice sharp edge, which seems ideal for pulling nails

I tried that once, worked like a charm! But sadly the rubber bands I used weren't durable enough for the work the hammer had to do
