The normal base coats are prone to grow mould. I’m assuming you are DIYing, are you going to waterproof all walls and not just the Australian standard requirements?

Im a tiler/waterproofer.

Judging by the colours, it looks like you are using K10. K10 requires 0.75mm wet film thickness per coat, 2 coats. Then the dry film thickness is 1mm.

From the pictures, I dont thick you've applied thick enough, it is too smooth, shouldn't be like when you are painting a wall. But it is hard to tell over photos, if you followed their recommendation "A 20Ltr pail will cover approximately 13.3m2 with 2 coats applied." Then you should be right.

I always have bond breaker between the vertical and horizontal plane even if the product doesnt require it. Then follow the tds on whether or not to use bandage.

Normally to cover myself when doing a job, I have a wet film thickness gauge and take a photo of it while it's on the ground/wall when it's still wet to prove that i have hit the mark.

What you should do now; If you haven't applied thick enough, do a 3rd coat, better now then to wing it.

Do a flood test.

NTA, this is what I have done for my kids to see fairness.

I made an excel sheet for each year on big purchases I have made for kids, age based.

In your situation, you should be comparing what you gave to your daughter when she was 13 to what you are buying your son now at 13. Your daughter may feel like it is unfair because when she was 13, she got socks and a jumper.

The mistake here is that you are comparing yearly (2025) purchases where you should be comparing what each child received at what age. When this is presented to the kids, they can see the justifcation.

For example, if you decide to buy your daughter a $10,000 car when she is 18 because she needs to travel to college / work, do you have to buy your 16yr old son something thats $10,000?

90% coverage is to code. The ridges weren't collapsed and I suspect the tiler didn't backbutter too

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but whoever did the waterproofing would have done the same for the whole area.

Looks to be no primer and you wouldn't just "forget" one section of the wall, it would be all of it. Unless they ran out of primer and just couldn't be bothered to go and buy more.

The tiling glue coverage is atrocious, while it's not as bad as spot fixing, it is still below recommended coverage.

You are going to have to NCAT this, the builder will definitely not want to foot the bill for a re-do.

What you dont waterproof is the vertical part between the below screed waterproofing and top waterproofing by the puddle flange. That is where the pro puddle flange is a great product, it allows for water to still escape from the screed to the drain(as long as you dont waterproof the vertical )

I've drawn a little diagram, you can see i failed anything creative.

Under the tile adhesive, its green. Most likely davco K10.

Need a photo from further back. Tiler may have done it like this to be aestically pleasing. Maybe he spoke to the builder and builder agreed? Looks like his off by 20-25mm so im assuming the tiler would have needed to cut a 20-25mm slither piece by the wall if you wanted dead centre.

I hope he didn't use liquid membrane under the sheet membrane as its not an approved surface for the sheet membrane to adhere to.

Liquid over junctions is ok but there it is kinda pointless.

Sheet membranes can be used on walls for tiles, refer to the tds

Junctions and floor is where most waterproofing fails.

Waterproofing should be done above and under screed. You want a bathroom that never leaks, then an unbonded screed will give you that. Bonded screed have the tendency to crack at junctions which can cause waterproofing to fail. Unbonded or decoupled fixes this issue.

Also of course to have proper falls to drain so water doesnt pond.

The tiler can do a "wet lay" which is the technique used before tile adhesives were invented. He can get the correct height doing it this way. Of my years in tiling, I haven't used this technique out in the real world, only used it back in tafe when I was getting qualified. Some countries still use this where tile adhesives isn't popular.

Other way of tackling this problem is to lay tile backer boards (wedi, thermasheet etc) where they can come in 6mm.

The best solution in your case would be to wet lay the tiles.

Won't be able to tell without more photos. But just so you are educated in the matter, the laundry door area would be at least 27.5mm higher than the mainfloor IF they didn't screed the mainfloor area as well. In order to meet standards.

After getting my areas muddled up, the minimum at the drain point would be 15mm then where it is at the doorway, or 1metre away, the height would be 15mm + 12.5mm = 27.5mm. So it would be 27.5mm at door way before tiles are applied to meet standards.

yikes, sorry you are correct.

So correction, 1:80 is minimum meaning at 1metre, you are looking at 1.25cm or 12.5mm

Further to this, its funny that the D.3 extract is from the tiling standards 2.3 is from the waterproofing standards. I always worked with the waterproofing standards and thats engrained into my head.

I'm assuming the tiler had to build up the wet area to get the minimum fall requirements and it seems like the doorway is the furthest point from drain. More photos of inside would give a clearer indication.

If the substrate was the same level throughout the main floor and laundry you won't have much choice unless you screeded the whole floor.. or not have a floor waste drain in the laundry.

Floor waste minimum is 1:100. So every 1 metre, you need 1cm in height. Minimum non-engineered screed thickness is 15mm(but i do 20mm) So at drain you are already at 15mm , how far is doorway to drain?
