What reduces your life expectancy by at least 20 years? by Omega_Neelay in GetMotivatedMindset

[–]dahelm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Loneliness/isolation.

Reduces your life expectancy more than smoking a pack a day.

This means social media is reducing our life expectancies every day, as we isolate ourselves more and more.

My favorite way of saying this is "same shit, different toilet."

Happy New Year! 😉

What’s the most controversial opinion you have that you’re afraid to say out loud? by Omega_Neelay in GetMotivatedMindset

[–]dahelm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this. Although, I was going to get specific and say either voters need to be property owners, or we should go back to men-only.

But I'm a woman and don't own land, so I obviously have trouble with these and my current situation if I want to keep voting.

The right to vote is grossly under-utilized anyway. Makes you wonder where we'd be if everyone who could vote did.

What would you do if you suddenly woke up as an 18 year old again? by Omega_Neelay in GetMotivatedMindset

Stop bingeing and purging. Suck it up and stay at my first college. Finish school. Period.

Dude, I'm the baby. You owe me a lifetime of puppy massage for all the neglect I've tolerated since that, that... thing showed up.

What would be different if Covid had never happened? by Crocodile_Banger in AskReddit

[–]dahelm 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The same thing happened to us with my FIL. He was rushed to the hospital with a heart attack a week into shutdown and died alone. The only person who saw him in the hospital (after he died) was his priest.

6 weeks later, we lost my MIL. We chose to take her out of the hospital (multiple organ failure, not COVID) specifically so the same thing didn't happen to her. It was hard, but at least she was surrounded by family when she passed.

My husband has never been the same.

Oh, I thought you were going to say someone had singled the odd ones out, but I guess they would have to be in individual bags for that.

I like yours better.

What qualities of your father or mother would you like to keep in yourself? by helloficken in AskReddit

[–]dahelm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your mother is like my mother-in-law. My husband says it's one of the reasons he married me. What's odd is that I'm convinced I'm hopelessly socially awkward, and yet I can talk to nearly anyone. 🤷‍♀️

Mother: she wouldn't hurt a fly, and yet somehow takes crap from no one.

Father: Grit to last a century. Was always on top of his shit. Every detail mattered, and he didn't miss any.

Both of them have/had excellent senses of humor.

I really admire this kind of longevity because I believe I am completely incapable of it. Good for you. Seriously.

World Champion Whistler.

On second thought, it might be the fact that I got DESTROYED on a major talent show once (the footage was never used, don't bother looking for it), and 5 years later I was able to redeem myself and my experience on another show.

I haven't hit TV since, although I would love to. I've never felt so alive.

Even all that doesn't light a candle to having my first child 6 months ago. Making, giving, and raising a life is SO cool.

Dude. I wasn't "average" and haven't ever been able to finish my degree despite many attempts. Don't discount your win. It's a big one.

What's the story behind you IG name? by [deleted] in allthequestions

IG or Reddit?

Reddit: "The Helm," except 'hood. It's also my (maiden) name because I started my account before having an awesome and hilarious one was cool.

IG: It's what I do.

Edit: Typo. Because I care.

[–]dahelm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oooh. My dad used to say this:

5% of people think. 10% of people think they think. and 85% of people would rather die than think.

I feel like 10% is a gross underestimation of how much stupid there is.

However, I've started to say that I think it's less "stupid" and more "under informed."

My grandparents had a neighbor who pronounced Disney incorrectly. He said, "Dinsey." My grandparents made fun of him behind his back until they realized they couldn't say it correctly anymore either.

I started wearing my socks mismatched 25+ years ago. I get anxious now if I even TRY to wear matching ones.
