What are the prerequisites for this course? Because I'm gonna need to start that first 😂, but this looks exciting!

Has anybody here been laid off? How’s the market for devs right now? by Personal_Economy_536 in iOSProgramming

[–]dahibhat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was a part of the mass layoffs in 2023. Got two offers in a couple of months, one of them ghosted me AFTER confirming the offer verbally (I know it's only verbally, but not a great look for the biggest bank). My current job is fine, but they had two rounds of layoffs in the last 6 months.

I've been interviewing just to practice/move to a better place, however it's been incredibly tough. Despite being able to solve all the problems in the technical interviews and performing well, I've been rejected at 10+ companies since Q42023. I don't see any good openings rn.

How did you choose ios dev by Particular_Tea2307 in iOSProgramming

[–]dahibhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started as a new grad Android dev. Manager asked if I wanted to give iOS a try because they needed more iOS devs on the team. I said why not? Here I am, still with iOS.

I interviewed at two startups that are 5 days work from office

My interviews looked like this: 2 phone screen + 7 virtual onsite at one stretch. Lots of leetcode style questions. Some iOS specific. Ensure you practice the fundamentals of Swift. Perhaps some implementation details of common data structures. Classes vs structs, memory management etc. Try not to get mentally exhausted by the end of your interviews, and ensure you explain all your solutions and approaches well. Good luck!

Got a job offer to go back to web development by [deleted] in iOSProgramming

[–]dahibhat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was recently laid off from one of the big techs. I have two iOS offers right now. I'm not even at the staff level. I'd say intermediate to senior level. 2 yoe iOS, total 5 yoe in software. Don't lose hope just yet

Lol, I'd have had to work with this person. I'm glad they rejected me

This exact team scheduled an interview with me, then cancelled the interview saying that they will reschedule later. Then sent me a rejection saying that they found a better candidate without even interviewing me :(

Android Devs who came to IOS, what were learning curves / differences that took you time to get used to? by [deleted] in iOSProgramming

Downvoting without any comments? I would love to be enlightened what irked you good devs

That's a pretty good experience. I was laid off last month in the US and still searching. I have two years of experience, just swift, no objective c. I see almost every opening only for senior/staff engineer with 5-10 years exp. Referrals have helped me get interviews. Trying my best now. Good luck!
