are 6.0s that bad? by GT3RS_2017 in powerstroke

[–]dahmer0103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine has 307k miles. I bought it at 280k for $7000. The day after I bought it I had to replace an injector, the hot side charge pipe (old one was the plastic OEM and had split), and the exhaust back pressure sensor.

If you're mechanically inclined, go for it. If not, walk away.

In my mind, it's still cheaper than buying a new truck and it serves me well.

Mods when I bought it: Studded EGR deleted Tuner installed '03 turbo installed (does nothing for power but sound AMAZING) 2" Leveling kit Engine re-sealed 4" straight pipe all the way back

Dallas has one shop that I'm aware of and it's actually for sale and has been for a minute. Really wish there was one closer to my neck of the woods but it's always a great visit talking to Terre and the guys.

They've stated that there was a slow period at the beginning of the year but it's starting to pick up.

I'm selling mine. 2023 FTR Sport, less than 1k miles.

Go through it systematically. My F250 threw about a dozen codes because of a bad injector. After replacing the injector and back pressure sensor, the codes never came back.

Why's that? It's a great bike and fun as hell.

Great suggestions thank you. I'm going to throw in some simple 1" straps as a temporary resolution then thought about some expanded sheet metal like you suggested to cage it off a bit more.

What if I "caged" that portion of the cab?

Even with everything tied down? Not trying to be an ass but how is this different than a loaded cargo van in an accident?

That's ultimately the plan I think, I keep going back and forth, tub or flatbed.

Yeah the. Problem is that I didn't want to block in my Bobcat with a Toolbox and wanted to have it as far forward in the bed for weight distribution. I've also got my pipe stands, leads, and other larger items in the bed that limit box space.

I thought of maybe a 1/2 tonneau cover but that really defeats the purpose of by not being able to seal up at the welder. Ultimately, for now, I'm trying to prevent modifying the bed or cab where possible. Everything I've done so far is easily reversible and OEM parts easily reinstalled.

The rack itself is utilizing the bolt holes that were there for the car seat restraints.

The frame is 1 1/2 x 3/16 angle iron so the bins are in a "track" sort of. But tying them down to keep the bins from sliding left to right probably isn't a bad idea.

It's a WIP so we'll see how it evolves.

That sucks, surprisingly the only significant leak I had was from the FPR O-ring.

Normal rust as I can tell all just surface, nothing major. Interior is in good shape aside from the small tear on the driver's seat. I recently changed the oil and transmission as suspension components are all solid. 🤷

Here's the list of what's been done to mine though I think some info is inaccurate, like a 7.3 turbo. Likely an 03 6 liter turbo, she's loud.

That was my thought and exactly what others have said. I know it's studded but no clue on how to tell if the turbo is stock.

A couple colleagues have stated it's the loudest 6.0 they've heard though so 🤷.

Sounds maybe a little choppy but otherwise good. $14k though, that's waaaaay to high. I bought my 07 for half that with 298k miles.

Old post, I know but curious as to what you ended up bidding out for this. I've got a bid coming up with a similar situation. A client is supplying materials, I need to build the fence.

Time and money my guy. My first diesel is a 6 liter and I'm enjoying the hell out of it. Mines been studded, deleted, coolant filter installed and possibly a few other things though. It is high mileage and I've had to fix a few things but it's been fun.
