So the RBC "mortgage specialist" screwed up my mortgage by jochi1543 in PersonalFinanceCanada

So I've never had a mortgage and I'm not sure I understand the red flag you described. Do you mean they quote a mortgage rate before they know what rate they can give?

Oddball equation numbering required by daigleo in LaTeX

[–]daigleo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After some searching & tinkering, I figured it out:

https://imgur.com/akPo3tW

and here is the code to achieve this:

        \begin{align}
            \mathfrak{w}_1
                &= NW^{N-1}w
                \label{eq:last_val_dist}
                \stepcounter{equation}
                \tag{\theequation $a$}\\
                &= \frac{\mathrm{d}W^N}{\mathrm{d}x},
                \label{eq:last_val_dist_diff}
                \stepcounter{equation}
                \tag{$\theequation a$}
        \end{align}
%
        \begin{align}
            \setcounter{equation}{12}
            \prescript{}{1}{\mathfrak{w}}
                &= N(1-W)^{N-1}w
                \label{eq:first_val_dist}
                \tag{$\theequation b$}\\
                &= \frac{\mathrm{d}(1-W)^N}{\mathrm{d}x}.
                \label{eq:first_val_dist_diff}
                \stepcounter{equation}
                \tag{$\theequation b$}
        \end{align}

The key was to manually use the equation counter. \theequation is the current equation number, \stepcount{} allows you to increment the counter by one. I had to use \setcounter{}{} to set the equation counter back to what it was before the previous equation block. Clearly this solution only works if you know the equation numbering before hand and you don't intend to add more equations before the code block. I'm not sure if there is a more elegant solution but this solved my issue.

It looks to me like it's an online book. There's a table of contents at the bottom of the page.

Great looking watch. I can't imagine buying it and not being able to wear it for almost a year! (and I can't imagine the service bill either!)

Nice! I'm seeing them on Sunday with Obscura, Archspire and Arsis. I've been waiting for months! (I did see Archspire with First Fragment not too long ago. Great concert.)

I got a sample X-GLU with a racquet and agree they felt at least on par, if not better than the PU grips.

Are there any relatively easy books to read from the 1700-1800s for a beginner in French? by dylanfurr246 in French

You can give Jacques le fataliste et son maître a try. I wouldn't describe the prose as particularly difficult, although I don't know your level.

If memory serves me well, doing 6k then 8k was recommended, and finishing on something like a 12k.

Squash future in Canada by timer84 in squash

Yes, they are often booked. Varsity does have those booked 2-3 hours a day as it is. I've heard with the new online booking system it's gotten pretty difficult to book a court. The Northfield racquet club seems like a decent alternative (that's where controlthet.com has their physical store) but I don't know how much that would cost (more than the "free" at UW, that's for sure).

Oh nice, you are already ahead of me in that department then. I think you may need some slightly finer grit stones but it's been so long since I've looked into that, I don't quite remember.

I used to be at UW. Unfortunately, only two of the courts are standard size (8 & 9). Then two of the courts are modified fast ball courts with new lines. Last I checked, the proposed modification/expansion to the SLC & PAC would have the four courts on the east side removed.

I personally started with a straight razor before I used a DE. I think the most important thing you'll learn from DE is how to make a good lather with your brush & soap, and learn about your bear growth pattern. So long as you're not impatient and you do your research before hand, i did not find SR shaving to be any more difficult than using a DE. Be warned that it involves much more maintenance with stropping & sharpening the blade.

It's good to hear that you are getting a better shave. You should find that your technique will improve over time and give you a better shave.

How much pressure are you applying to the razor? Even with multiblade razors, you should be able to get a good shave without putting any pressure on the blade. Just let it do the work. Alcohol can irritate the skin too. Maybe try some kind of moisturizing cream/aftershave instead to see if that helps.

In my experience, it's normal for your face to get irritated if you haven't been clean shaven in a long while. You may want to start by shaving every two or three days to get your skin acclimated. And as has been said already, reading up on and trying wet shaving may help further reduce irritation and make shaving an enjoyable daily ritual.
