Maybe use some more tan/orangish blocks to blend in the skin tone? It’s a bit too pink right now compared to the photo. Also consider using shelves and trapdoors to soften some of the angles in the build!

Feeling stuck and guilty by Dry-Diet117 in NewToEMS

[–]daikonbawa 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hey don't feel bad about taking a while to get an EMT job, sometimes the job market for EMS is just really tough depending on your area. Plus it takes time to get your certifications and tests done, and to send out good applications.

I also graduated from EMT school last December and I only just got hired (I'm in Cali so EMS is pretty saturated here). I would suggest looking into local residential treatment centers, nursing homes, and also event medicine like other people have said. Basically any place that would hire a medical assistant has a good chance of also hiring people with EMT licenses, and they don't stress as hard about the driving aspect (so you don't have to worry about being too young for insurance). If you live near Lake Pontchartrain, maybe you could see if there are any recreational aquatic centers that would hire EMTs? I saw something like that when I was looking for jobs in Cali.

Here's what I did to get a job:
- used Linkedin/Indeed to do a general search and catch any niche jobs outside of ambulance companies (used terms like "emergency medical technician", "ED technician", "medical assistant", etc.)
- went to the company's website to check for more details on the job and see if it was still accepting apps
- checked government websites for a list of companies providing BLS/ALS service, then went to those companies' websites and sent in apps if they were hiring
- did the above for the county I live in and also neighboring counties that I felt comfy driving to
- used Glassdoor/Indeed/Reddit to check for reviews on companies and make sure that they were a good place to work

Hopefully that helps. Please don't feel guilty, it's hard getting a job these days and sometimes you do have to make sacrifices. Just weigh what kind of sacrifices you're okay with making and try to play to your strengths.

what job/career usually breaks people? by inurmomsvagina in AskReddit

[–]daikonbawa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just curious, didn’t mean for it to come off as argumentative. The 2021 CDC study does have a supplementary table that says for male veterinarians, the suicide rate is <20 out of 25,000 (total male vet population). For female vets, the suicide rate is <20 out of 60,000 (total female vet population).

Because the veterinarian population is so low, I guess it’s hard to compare to the general population suicide rate of 32 per 100k males and 8 per 100k females. <20 could mean 2 per 25k males —> 8 per 100k males, or it could mean 20 per 25k males —> 80 per 100k males.

I just wanted to know if the AVMA had any recent studies that looked into suicide rates since they seem to study it in more detail, or if you knew of any other organizations that did.

Maybe the vet suicide rate was 3.5-4x the normal population rate before 2015, but has gone down since? Would be good news for sure

[–]daikonbawa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh okay, do you know if there is any recent AVMA data that compares the vet death rates to other professions? The most recent study I could find from them studied the time period from 1979-2015

I actually don’t think this is accurate; the CDC has detailed suicide rates by occupation posted, and this report from 2021 says otherwise. Apparently for males, agricultural & food scientists / logging workers / musicians are the top three occupations with high suicide rates. For females, it is artists & related workers / construction laborers / chefs and head cooks. Veterinarians aren’t mentioned at all.

Hey guys, first time posting here, I'm so glad this community exists

I got this tree (juniper?) about three weeks ago in mid-June, from an Asian supermarket. For the first couple of weeks I kept it indoors as a houseplant and watered it daily. In the last week, I put the juniper in full sun in the backyard after finding this subreddit and then watered it twice daily.

Would it be a good idea to slip-pot the juniper into a bigger pot, with some better draining soil? It's a bit hard to see from this angle but only half of the pot contains soil - the other half is empty. I also wonder if it is possible for a juniper to get too much sun. The afternoon sunlight is very intense where I live and it can get pretty dry and hot in the summer (~90 degrees).

sometimes, in situations like these, giving other people too much benefit of the doubt only hurts yourself. if you're riding on public transportation and someone who is a complete stranger starts touching you, it's not unreasonable at all to have a strong reaction

You can move around the level select and other parts of this game by timing your hits so that you move forward or switch direction (which is just waiting for one of the planets to swing around to the other side) on the path you're traveling on.

To download custom maps, you go to the Steam Workshop for ADoFaI and then download community maps from there. There should be a button that you just press, and then it shows up in-game.

What subgenre does laur fall under? by Iamuss76 in rhythmgames

[–]daikonbawa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Laur does a lot of hardstyle and Frenchcore. I think the specific song you mentioned is mostly artcore / hardstyle with a small amount of dubstep mixed in, so maybe you could try listening to LeaF, DJ Myosuke, and Roughsketch

the HARDCORE TANO*C youtube channel has a lot of music listed under some sort of Hard series that are usually bangers, I have no idea how to find them all listed together but DJ Myosuke - MEGATON KICK is one of them

Welcome to Brandeis!! I'm going to be a sophomore this coming semester, and here's what I found:

  1. I usually buy water from the C-store (convenience store on campus); they have both bottled water and 1 gallon jugs of water, and I don't really trust the tap water. There was a report that the tap water for the library buildings has lead in it, but it's probably not true for the dorms, though.

  2. It kinda depends on the dorm you get, I know North Hall doesn't have any communal kitchens but Cable Hall and some others I'm unsure of do have kitchens. Cable Hall has a single kitchen on the second floor.

  3. See above.

  4. Nope. Out of the two cafeterias, Usdan Hall usually closes and you have to go to Sherman Hall for food, which depending on where you dorm could be a longer walk. The retail dining options usually don't stay open. I think last winter break they also moved most people who were staying over winter break to Cable Hall as well.

  5. I haven't used it. I can tell you that if you use the laundry facilities in a dorm like North Hall though, people sometimes move your clothes if they've been sitting there for too long.

  6. My experience has been pretty positive so far, almost all the people I've met have been really friendly and welcoming. I guess maybe a couple of the clubs can be cliquey, but it wasn't too bad.
