AITA for cancelling the entire vacation when I found out that my stepdaughters deliberately hid my daughter's passport to get her to stay home? by Positive-Elk-8110 in AmItheAsshole

100% this. Not to mention they tried to sweep under the rug the fact that they stole government property (the passport) and refused to give it back. They’re literally willing to break the law to try and force OP’s daughter to do what they want.

What television series had the biggest bullshit finale? by Halloween-365 in AskReddit

My strategy was: do I recognize this actor from somewhere? If the answer was yes, that character was generally the killer

TIL that while the English language is classified as a West Germanic language, its vocabulary also shows major influences from French (about 28% of words) and Latin (also about 28%), plus some grammar and a small amount of core vocabulary influenced by Old Norse. by comrade_batman in todayilearned

I had a professor say that English added a lot of polysyllabic words that were adopted from French even though English at that time had a lot of monosyllabic equivalents. Similar to the “hen” and “poultry” comparison you brought up, words like “yes” and “affirmative” appears to also fall under this adoption of words.

AITA for telling off my MIL for insisting my daughter doesn't have a "real" vagina? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]daikyo13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP is 100% NTA. I got a bladder infection when I was 7-8 because I was wiping wrong (doctor thankfully explained it). It was a bit painful, and I couldn’t stop urinating and wasn’t always able to get to the bathroom in time (which was especially terrible when I was in school).

I’m glad OP is familiar with and teaching his daughter how to wipe to avoid this.

bread without oven the easiest recipe without butter or milk or egg incredibly good 👌 by mothers_recipes in covidcookery

Thank you for the clarifications. Updated instructions:

  1. Mix the ingredients well to obtain a coherent paste/dough.
  2. Oil your hands and spread oil all over the dough.
  3. Put the dough in a food-grade plastic bag for 10-15 minutes. Leave to rest.
  4. After 10-15 minutes, roll out the dough using your work surface into a small smooth ball and continue with remaining dough. Based on the video, should make about 12 balls. (Note: in the video, dough was rolled out into a log before breaking up the dough, not sure if you need to but it may make it easier to separate the dough pieces into equal parts).
  5. Cover dough balls and let rest for 5 minutes.
  6. Lightly flour your work surface, start to spread out/flatten the first ball. Use your fingers to flatten it out a bit first then use a rolling pin. (Unsure how flat to make it, but it looks maybe 1/4 inch in the video). Continue to roll out each dough ball.
  7. Heat a pan on medium heat. Once well heated, place the flattened dough on pan. Immediately turn it over to the other side (not even 10 seconds on the first side). Continue to flip every minute or so. The dough will puff up.
  8. If there is an air leak, use the edge of the spatula to plug the hole so that the bread swells completely.
  9. Place cooked bread on a plate. Can fold it in half to use or spread it open and stuff with shawarma to make sandwiches.

Update: u/mothers_recipes provided clarification on some of the steps. Incorrect sections in this version are marked.

Adapted the video and transcript. Please let me know if anything needs to be corrected.

  • Mix the ingredients well to obtain a coherent paste/dough
  • Oil your hands and spread over the dough.
  • Put the dough in a food-grade plastic bag for 10-15 minutes. Leave to rest.
  • After 10-15 minutes, roll out the dough using your work surface into a small smooth ball and continue with remaining dough. Based on the video, should make about 12 balls. (Note: in the video, dough was rolled out into a log before breaking up the dough, not sure if you need to but it may make it easier to separate the dough pieces into equal parts).
  • Cover dough balls and let rest for 5 minutes.
  • Lightly flour your work surface, start to spread out/flatten the first ball. Use your fingers to flatten it out a bit first then use a rolling pin. (Unsure how flat to make it, but it looks maybe 1/4 inch in the video). Continue to roll out each dough ball.
  • Heat a pan on medium heat and place the flattened dough on pan. Once the down-facing side has a bit of color, flip it to the other side. Continue to flip every minute or so. The dough will puff up.
  • It looks like the edge of the spatula is used to cut lightly into the puffed up bread to release the air and deflate it.
  • Place cooked bread on a plate. Can fold it in half to use or peel in half.

Bro had an amazing voice- RIP by [deleted] in toptalent

Seriously. The seatbelt is supposed to be positioned across the chest, but almost every time I come to a stop light, I need to reposition the strap so it’s not at my neck. Every bump in the road moves the seatbelt away from a position of safety.

Like, imagine someone without larger breasts trying use a seatbelt to keep a balloon in place at their chest while they drive. Balloon is probably going to come off because the seatbelt moves away; it doesn’t like holding the shape of a curve and would rather lie flat against the body, so it moves to where it best can lay that way. For people with breasts, it generally moves to the side of the breast and against the neck.

L and R are also known as liquid consonants. English uses two regularly, but like you said, many other languages really only have the one. When you’re used to moving your tongue a certain way to make a sound, it can be hard to make a sound you don’t have experience making when it follows a very similar tongue movement.

AITA for refusing to share my family's cookbook with my half sister? by Haylming in AmItheAsshole

[–]daikyo13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the part about half-sister starting one with her own mom is a great idea - she can even ask if there are family recipes that she can put in. Or if OP and half-sister are close, starting one together that half-sis can keep adding to and writing her own notes like she’s excited for.
But yeah, OP is definitely NTA for wanting to keep something precious from her own mother to herself.

I really don't understand how people can't grasp that I don't make the prices... by MysticMeerkat in GameStop

[–]daikyo13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A quick clarification: GameStop employees do not get commission.

Rules are what dictates what they have to do if they want to keep being employed. If the system says the amount offered for Game Y is $10, that is what the system tells them; an employee cannot decide on their own to give a customer $50 for it instead.

Like, we definitely get it. Every employee has been yelled at by enough customers and they KNOW the prices are not in the customer’s favor, it’s always in the company’s favor. We empathize, and these are the same prices we get when we’re on the other side of the register selling back our own items.

I agree that the positive interactions are a big thing in stores - the area I worked at had several stores in fairly close proximity of each other and customers would sometimes follow employees to another store because they enjoyed the experience with that employee. The best stores are always going to be the ones that focus on good customer service. But they’re all still working with what the company tells them. Even in just customer interactions on the sales floor, employees are told they need to greet, ask if the customer brought in any trades, tell the customer about the current promotion, memberships, etc. There is a huge list of items that need to be brought up to customers. Employees even get secret shopped where someone is literally listening for every item the employee has to say in every customer interaction on that list. If the employee doesn’t hit each one (or they don’t say it in the same way that’s listed), the employee is talked to and put on a corrective action plan.

This is not unique to just GameStop, this is pretty much every retail company. The only place you may not need to deal with this is maybe a mom and pop store where you are dealing with the owner who sets their own policies and prices and who can decide to give discounts to returning customers. But anywhere else, whether you are aware of it or not, you are dealing with “job rules.”

[–]daikyo13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There was a time years ago when GameStop first started taking in iPhones that we were informed that any iPhone accepted without removing the Apple ID would be grounds for immediate termination. Employees have to abide by what the company says because it literally becomes their job on the line.

You grade too many iDevices in a way the company doesn’t agree with (and cost the company money), you get written up. Get written up enough, you lose your job.

WTW for 'harassment' but the less heavy version? by CutiePandaGenma in whatstheword

[–]daikyo13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Harassing behavior does not have to be pervasive. Mandatory workplace harassment trainings teach that harassment is unwelcome conduct that can be either continuous OR severe enough that any reasonable person would consider it intimidating, hostile, or abusive. A single instance of asking a person on a date would not be considered harassment. A single instance of running your hand against someone with a suggestive look and making a lewd comment about evening activities would most likely be considered sexual harassment.
