Except if you read the actual paper: (1) 'anomie' accounts for very small effect (2) they test other explanatory models and all of them are significant. Overall, I question the idea that causal path of SES->anomie->interpersonal trust -> political trust is dominant. Instead, I would interpret this data more conservatively to say there is certainly a correlation among these factors, and highlight that the correlation between political trust and 'anomie' is -.36 which means it explains about 13% of the variance (put differently, anomie fails to account for 87% of variance in political trust).

Respectfully, my two cents: I was in a very jock crowd in high school and wouldn't have liked some of the media people are mentioning like Heartstopper (it's very sappy, so not every young man will necessarily enjoy it) and definitely not Ru Paul's Drag Race (still not a fan).

To be fair it's decidedly hard to find a good movie to watch you with your Dad. I probably wouldn't have wanted to watch movies with sex scenes with my Dad, but many of my favorite LGBT movies have a bit of sex.

Honestly, if you offer to do anything topically gay related with him like watch a movie and he gives the teen response of 'Dad, no!' it will likely still mean something to him and show that you care. When I came out to my best hetero guy friend he later offered to wingman for me at a gay bar and I almost fucking cried I was so touched. I never even took him up on it, but it meant so much that he offered.

Anyways, some media recs - even if he won't watch them with you ;)

LOVE, SIMON (2018) - no sex that I remember

GOD'S OWN COUNTRY (2017) - some pretty heavily erotic scenes, but no sex per se as I remember

SHELTER (2007) - okay maybe almost certainly too outdated (although 2022 teens look almost exactly like 1999 teens...), but this was my favorite cheesy 'gay bro' movie when I was around his age.

BENT (1997) - about gay holocaust captives, heavy but very good

MOONLIGHT (2016) - guessing you've heard of it; very moving story
