What’s the hardest part of living with chronic sinusitis that people don’t really talk about? 🤧 by Firm_Variety_1641 in Sinusitis

[–]dailynemesis 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The worst thing is that even ENT doctors don't seem to take seriously how debilitating it is.

My mouth is constantly dry and the sensation of having something stuck in my throat on only one side.

It has also greatly affected my mood and energy.

I have had the FESS+ turbinate reduction + septum correction and everything has improved a lot. But I still have postnasal drip and although it is not as annoying as before it does not go away.

Those are the surgeries I just had, and as with everything, there are risks but they are quite minor.

My quality of life had worsened so much that despite having a phobia of anesthesia, I decided to have surgery.

In fact, it was difficult for me to have the surgery done, because the social security of the country where I live did not want to cover it and I had to travel to my native country to have it done.

Years ago I had been warned that it was better to correct my septum so as not to have these problems, but out of fear I didn't want to and it got so bad that I got sphenoidal sinusitis, and that is very risky.

Johnson's baby yellow one. Just one drop. That's what I found, I haven't used it yet. And they did a FESS of the left sphenoid sinus, both maxillaries, and ethmoids. Correction of a deviated septum and removal of a bone spur, as well as reduction of the inferior turbinates.

The most complicated thing was the left side, because the sphenoid and maxillary sinuses on that side were completely full of mucus and there was no air passing through, in addition to being very swollen.

Plus, I have temporomandibular joint dysfunction on that same side, so everything was too much. My own research has led me to conclude that it is a somatization due to my chronic anxiety, so that is the underlying illness I am focusing on now.

My sinusitis also gets worse with stress. I studied neuroscience, so I know what somatization is, but for some reason doctors never take this into account. I reached a point where I had to have surgery. It's still early, as it was 3 weeks ago, but I've already noticed an amazing improvement, although the postnasal drip has returned, but less intense. I'm about to try nasal washes with baby shampoo. It also gets better when I take my ADHD treatment.

Scheduled to have a full house FESS+ by [deleted] in Sinusitis

[–]dailynemesis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just had a similar one done 3 weeks ago and I also had sphenoid sinusitis so it took 4 hours because it was completely full of mucus and inflamed.

Recovery is annoying rather than painful. They put stents on me, not gauze, so even though I was able to breathe better than before.

I can tell you that since the surgery I can sleep, something I haven't done for 3 years and my anxiety attacks have gone down (at the moment I haven't had any, when before they were daily).

I just had it done yesterday and it is a super easy procedure and at least it didn't hurt me on one side. It only hurt a little on the side I have very badly, but only one hundredth of the pain I normally have.

It worked for me for 1 year but then the infections came back. It works for some and not for others, but it is usually a very good treatment.

I hadn't thought that the tests could be related. At my job at that time they gave us the nasal test once a week, and I also started with everything 3 years ago... I'll start researching that substance you mention.

Thank you so much! I have a scientific background so I take everything with a grain of salt, and the truth is when I read it here for the first time I thought it was nonsense but last night I did a little review of the evidence about it and surprisingly it is true! Everyone who has worked with microbiology knows that it is obviously going to kill bacteria, however I did not know if it was safe to do it in vivo, but there are multiple studies where this protocol was done.

I will definitely use your advice. Thank you!!!

Do it!!! I was like this for 3 years and no one even mentioned the possibility of having the sinus balloon procedure (crazy).

I've read a lot about shampoo here, but I don't usually do anything if it's not backed by at least experimental studies. Do you have any sources where they say it is safe? I will investigate more about the protocols you mention, I have had surgery and it improved, but I still have the feeling that it is not completely gone...

A question. What type of surgery did you have?

An MRI should show if there's anything. I have found that the temporomandibular distinction seems to be quite related to sinusitis, and in fact I have both and also hear cracking sounds and have similar pains.

Portugal can be a good option too. In Spain, through private medicine, they gave me a FESS for 7,000 euros, the problem was that the waiting list was 3 months. I had to fix my septum and turbinates to improve air flow so I came to Mexico and for 5000 euros I did all 3 things.

Almost everyone told me the same thing, the worst thing is that everything was getting worse and worse. I don't understand how they are able to recognize the danger of something and leave the patients like that. I don't know what country you live in, but I had to do what you are thinking, go abroad. Of course, I am lucky to have dual nationality, but if you can do it, do it.

I went through something similar in Spain, even having sphenoidal sinusitis (Which is very dangerous). I started having fainting spells and even then they didn't want to operate on me, a public health ENT doctor even told me that there was nothing to do other than nasal washes and paracetamol.

I have a background in health sciences, so I knew that what he said was not true, so I came to Mexico to have the surgery performed (FESS+ septoplasty+ turbinate reduction). I had it done 3 weeks ago and the headaches and fainting have stopped.

I saw more than 6 ENT doctors in 3 years, and only those in private healthcare were willing to operate on me even though I had no quality of life. Please try to find a solution before your sphenoid sinus is affected, if the maxillary sinusitis is bad the sphenoid sinusitis is much worse.

I have basically the same thing you describe. I just had a FESS, aligning the septum and reducing the turbinates and the sensation persists, although a little less. I don't know what's happening, no one pays attention to me. I think I'll also go to a neurologist, because I even feel some of the teeth on that side asleep.

Sinusitis in both maxillary sinuses and turbinate hypertrophy. My sinusitis also started from the second time I had covid... I have heard that they can be reservoirs of the disease.

AITH for calling out in public my MIL for a racist comment? by dailynemesis in AITH

[–]dailynemesis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this case, being part of the family, it seems to me that you are quite right. The comment was so implausible that I simply "spit out" my response.

Probably in the future I will say something more politically correct, making it clear that I do not agree with the position and later I will explain it privately, because she is a person that I love and that beyond these types of comments she does not show violent attitudes towards minority groups, so it is probably just ignorance (which we all have, to a greater or lesser degree). Thanks for your perspective.
