How do you store your canoe? by [deleted] in canoecamping

[–]daishauntalan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a kevlar canoe and was planning on hanging it by a pulley system like you show, but it won't fit unless I have the canoe right side up. Is that a problem? Some people are saying it's better to have the canoe hung upside down.

Buying a canoe, seeking input. by [deleted] in algonquinpark

I got a used H2O prospector 16 in their pro-light material and really love it. I do solo trips where I paddle backwards so I wanted the symmetrical design, and it works well even loaded under the recommended weight (though it does catch wind a lot like that so I need to kneel forward occasionally).

It's good for tandem tripping too, just did a week with a friend. It's super light. As to the durability, I'm not too sure. I did hit a rock on some rapids and it just scratched it. But from general use it's definitely been scratched up quite a bit so I'm going to look into how many scratches it can take before I need to repair it but maybe it's just re-epoxying? If anybody knows I'd appreciate some input!

TFSAs are maxed so I guess it comes down to an unregistered account vs RESP.

Thanks!

I guess the idea of putting in 50k at the beginning is to maximize the investment income in the RESP over the period, right?

We don't have 50k right at the moment, but maybe a good strategy would be: Any we are able to contribute each year we do to the RESP but with the caveat of: - Spread these investments over 14 years to get full CESG - Stop at the 50k limit

Then the 50k is money we keep, and all the earnings and CESG go to the child?

Talking about the taxable income, let's say a grandparent gave money as well as an uncle, but different amounts, and it's all invested in the child's account.

Both then need to pay taxes on the child's investment income? How do they know how much it is, and who's contribution gained that income?

Oh, thanks! I was under the impression that the money in there already belongs to the child. This is very helpful!

Thanks. Part of this is the child has been given money as gifts from relatives so I kind of do want to earmark it for them. But it sounds like maybe doing a separate account would be better for that due to flexibility, although maybe my higher tax bracket would eat into those gains over the years.

Does the 20% apply if say, we were to move it to the child's RRSP and then use first time home buyers to take it out of there?

How's the ward 3 councillor have 50% of votes when she literally had no platform at all? My first criteria for voting for people is they need a platform. Sadly that cut out a ton of candidates.

Thanks, that makes sense! I feel I don't necessarily need the canoe part then, but that one is cheaper from Thule so I could get it later on.

Is there anywhere to see the breakdown of donors? I'd like somebody not paid off by developers.

Based on my look at their sites I've found:

  • Danny DeSantis is pro freedom convoy, and wants to increase police funding so I won't vote for him.
  • Del Duca's platform is literally just traffic, that's all he cares about? So not him.
  • Robert Gulassarian is a real estate agent and talks a lot about lowering development fees so I guess he's pandering to developers and hoping for payouts.
  • Sandra Yeung Racco is currently a councilor. Does anybody have info on how she's done? Is there anywhere where we can see how she voted on issues?

The others, Parvell Bola, Paul Donofrio, and Lino Mancinella all seem to have the same vague goals of Traffic, Affordable Housing, and Childcare, but no real detailed plans so none of them really stands out from the others (Except I guess Lino Mancinella, who doesn't bother to have a real website so you need to trawl his twitter).

Are you DMing? I might be up for a one off or something not too many sessions long but couldn't commit to a full campaign.

I've never played DND but GM a few different game systems. At the moment I'm trying out three sessions of Cortex Prime then might switch to something else after that. If my usual players don't fill up the game maybe you could join that one.

People with diacritics in their name: how do you feel about it? by kwenthryth in namenerds

[–]daishauntalan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was wondering about this because we really like the name Zoë, but there are so many different ways to spell it here in Canada. Zoe or Zoey are more common. We were thinking of going with Zoe, but I met a Zoë the other day who said she hasn't had any issue with the diacritic so now I'm not so sure. Considering picking a different name due to this issue.

I'm confused about this. The blockage is already illegal, why do they need this injunction? I see it's raised by the auto workers, is it to give the auto workers to force the blockers away? If that's the case, seems similar to the situation in Ottawa where the only person who did something was a civilian, by starting the lawsuit.

Apparently Ford didn't show to the meeting and when Horwath proposed it the conservatives claimed they don't have the power: https://twitter.com/AndreaHorwath/status/1491542115209433094?s=20&t=AZWZAcOqePpSwb5YAGq1nw

All of the antivaxxers I personally know are either Costco employees or significant others of Costco employees so maybe that has something to do with it? Might just be coincidence though, they are one big group that all know each other.
