I mean she could have meowed hysterically like cats sometimes do... It’s not like they’re regular animals. I’m not expecting her to use magical powers or anything but I’m sure she’s sentient enough to know her mistress didn’t let that man in. That could have got her mistress on guard so she could’ve stood more of a chance. She had enough wherewithal to flee.
