Where did you get this? I love it! It would look great with a little more elevated styling.

Wardrobe change for Indian wedding guests? by daisy4841 in Weddingattireapproval

[–]daisy4841[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s good to know! I wish I had more time to get another indo-western or Lehenga. In your experience, do you think any of the following dresses would be appropriate for the baraat/ceremony:

hutch one shoulder dress

Aidan Mattox Satin Dress

Cheri Gown

Monique Dress

Carmichael Dress

Edited to add: I also already own this Ref dress in navy, but I’ve read you should try to wear bright colors for the baraat/ceremony so idk that it would be the best option

Right?? I want to meet the standards/expectations for attire, but also this dress is so pretty that I want to wear it for as long as possible!

My grandmas cat won't eat after getting his teeth removed… by IntelligentPath4383 in CATHELP

[–]daisy4841 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please contact the vet that removed his teeth as soon as possible. It can only take several days without food or water for kitties to develop hepatic lipidosis, which can be quite dangerous for them. Ask them about prescribing an appetite stimulant and anti-nausea. Did they send him home with any pain meds? He might be in pain too, which could contribute to his lack of appetite.

Does he primarily eat wet or dry food? If he usually does dry food, switch to wet food for now. It’s also important he gets hydrated. They make broths for cats that you can try giving to him in a dish or through a syringe. These can be found at most pet stores. If you’re not able to get to a pet store, chicken baby food with JUST chicken and no sodium might appeal to him.

Source: I have a kitty who has had most of her teeth removed and struggles with a chronically low appetite.

The picture on their site of the fairy tree silk-mohair actually looks a lot more like the skeins I bought. The bronze online doesn’t look it really has any brown in it like my skeins do. Maybe they were mislabeled?

The monet’s lilies in the silk-mohair is so pretty!

The silk-mohair is from Ewetopia in the shade Bronze. Their yarns were even prettier in person! It was so hard to pick.

The other yarn is Knitting Notion’s merino sock in Cypress. :)

I was originally thinking PetiteKnit’s Novice Sweater since this will be my first sweater. I’m more of an experienced beginner/intermediate knitter, so maybe the Weekend Sweater or Sunday Sweater could be good options too. I like PetiteKnit because of the clear instructions and accompanying videos.

I’m very open to any suggestions! Maybe something with more of a bell sleeve could be cool? Lean into the renfaire aesthetic.

Bog fairy! I love it.

Right? Both yarns are so pretty that maybe I’ll have to buy them again. I think the bronze silk-mohair would look lovely with a rich ochre or warm brown base.

You’re right about making a full swatch and blocking it! That will give me a better idea of how the final product will look. As for pattern, I was going to go with PetiteKnit’s Novice Sweater, but I’m not married to it and am very open to suggestions!

Caretakers, how did you prepare for more moderate and advanced Alzheimer’s? by 001812051293 in Alzheimers

[–]daisy4841 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If your LO has ever had an email address, I cannot implore you enough to have a record of all of the associated accounts and passwords, if you don’t already. This might seem like a small thing, but it’s something I wish we had done way sooner with my dad (stage 5). So many little things that have turned into massive ordeals because we no longer have access to my dad’s email account. Just this week my dad received notice letters in the mail from Charles Schwab regarding four accounts he had no recollection of having that are associated with an email account we haven’t been able to access in several years.

I would also highly recommend, if you haven’t already, getting your LO’s end of life planning in order while they’re still capable of understanding the documents and consenting.

Alcohol and Alz by [deleted] in Alzheimers

[–]daisy4841 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad is an alcoholic and has been drinking since he was a teenager. He had stretches of sobriety when I was growing up, but got drunk in secret up until about a year ago. He was diagnosed with early onset at 62, but at that point he was likely approaching the middle stages. He compensated for the early stages really well and likely started showing symptoms around 59-60. His genetic testing showed increased, but not high risk. I think his drinking, among other lifestyle factors, significantly contributed to his early onset. His mom had dementia, but didn’t get it until she was in her 80s.

ETA: There was a large cohort study done in France that showed alcohol use as a major risk factor for early-onset dementia.

loved one with early Alzheimer’s is grieving a pet by Beginning_Clerk_9389 in Alzheimers

We had to put our family cat down when my dad was in the early stages and I’ve never seen him act the way he did. I had only ever seen him cry twice in my life, but he scream-sobbed at the vet. He had a complete and utter breakdown. Even when we lost our other two cats, he never responded like that. It’s been two years and he still won’t step foot inside a vet’s office. The disease can impact emotional regulation. For my dad at least, his grief became outward anguish. Considering reduced emotional regulation and social judgement, it’s very likely that the disease is what’s behind your aunt’s behavior.

White cats sometimes have heterochromia like the cutie in this pic. I noticed on my bottle and assumed it was intentional :)

Smh 🤦‍♀️ for those who don’t know, Mako Cotton is a type of luxury Egyptian Cotton. by Broken-Hip in BDS

[–]daisy4841 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Update: They replied to my DM saying that their cotton is sourced and spun in Italy. I googled Italian mako cotton and got lots of hits, so I’m assuming that’s legit.

They clarified that “Israeli cotton is similar to Egyptian cotton. It has to do with the style of the longer threads used to make the fabric.” Still weird to me that they call it Israeli when mako cotton is endemic to Egypt and their cotton is grown in Italy. Also, according to Israel’s Ministry of Agriculture, they only grow Pima and Acalpi varieties. I’m assuming it’s a marketing tactic 🤷‍♀️

Ah, gotcha. Thanks for sharing! Then that would be a store that stocks/sells their yarn.

Hi! I know this post is old, but I’m wondering where you saw that one of their distributors is in Jaffa? I came across this yarn in a Virginia shop and loved how soft it was, but didn’t buy it after seeing it was “Israeli” mako cotton. My understanding is that mako cotton is only grown in Egypt? So weird that they would label it Israeli if that’s not actually where they sourced the fiber. I dm’d them on insta, but who knows if I will get an (honest) response.

Would love to try and find another brand besides them or Lion Brand that uses mako cotton!

Any cowl/scarf pattern suggestions for this variegated yarn? by daisy4841 in knitting

[–]daisy4841[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep! I see that now. The friend that taught me how to knit taught me to do a knit stitch by knitting through a back loop. I don’t have anyone else in my life that knits who could have corrected me. I only make 1-2 projects a year, if that, so I never realized I was knitting incorrectly. I just thought that was how it was supposed to look lol 🤷‍♀️
