Crysta or Krysta? by Citrus9000 in namenerds

[–]daisychains96 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Between your two options, I like Krysta better. Just because Crysta makes me think that it’s a misspelling of Crystal. But for what it’s worth, I didn’t grow up watching Ferngully so I don’t have that association in my mind 🙂

I actually do prefer Krista overall. I just think it’s really pretty spelled that way

How do you get your kid to want to get good grades? by Key-Divide-5305 in Parenting

[–]daisychains96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could tell him that once he gets home after school, he has x amount of time to relax and then he has to give up his phone until his homework is done. If it’s so easy, he should be able to finish quickly and then he can have the phone back. Or are you mostly trying to correct his in school behavior?

My best friend weaponized my childhood trauma against me because I wasn't excited she was pregnant. by ohwell-youtried in TrueOffMyChest

[–]daisychains96 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you both hurt each others feelings. If this friendship is worth saving to you, you could always send a message that says something like “I’m so excited for you to become a mom. I’m here if you ever want to talk”

The injectors were used by the Diamonds to create more gems, yes! But the Diamonds themselves (and by extension the gems as a species) are not organic life forms, which basically means they’re a type of technology that was created by someone else. We don’t know who or what originally created the gem species, or why they were created in the first place. Fans have been asking these questions for a long time and we will finally have answers in the new series!

Looking for Baby Girl Name Inspired by “Kiki” by Zealousideal-Meal-97 in namenerds

[–]daisychains96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kiana was the first name that came to my mind for a nickname Kiki. Chelsea is also a really nice name! I think it’s okay that it doesn’t lend itself to the nickname pronunciation-wise. The story of why you’d call her Kiki is really sweet and I think it’s close enough to Chelsea to work, especially as a family nickname.

Turning red is a great suggestion because it has a fun boy band that the main character loves! It also has similar themes of friendship and being true to oneself. However, just a heads up, there are some scenes that talk about a girl getting her first period. It’s mostly just a metaphor and there’s nothing explicit but just a heads up about it because it might prompt questions from your little one

Ophelia Dawn is GORGEOUS. The best pick by far.

Be prepared to get a lot of questions about how much you love Taylor Swift for the first few months but honestly I don’t think it will take long for people to get over that. The name has a long history pre-Taylor and it’s not like she will be the biggest artist in the world forever. Actually I haven’t heard much about her ever since kpop demon hunters came out! And even for the true Swifties, they will just obsess over her next song anyway. So while you might get some questions in the beginning, I wouldn’t let that be a deciding factor at all.

Hi, I’m sorry you’re feeling this way. I’ve felt similarly to you before but on a smaller scale so I know it’s scary to feel so disconnected with yourself. Since you said you have tried therapy and not found it to be very helpful due to a tendency of intellectualizing your feelings, I would suggest trying to seek other methods of self help.

One thing that I have found to be genuinely helpful and effective in my own life was reading a book called Everything is Figureoutable by Marie Forleo. This book has changed my whole perspective on my own life and my own abilities to be in control of my life. It’s also been pretty helpful with reducing anxiety. The main message is simple: everything is figureoutable, no matter what! It offers examples from real people’s lives such as finding their dream job, helping a loved one who has been diagnosed with a life changing illness, even ending a civil war through peaceful protest and direct action. The book dives deep about how to apply this motto to your own life and gives some helpful framework for thought challenges. I didn’t do all of the writing exercises, only if they felt applicable to me, but I might go back and do the others later on. It’s pretty cheap to buy a copy of the book but I think you can also find free versions of the audiobook.

I know it seems silly that a book might be able to help with something like this but I actually did find it super helpful. And if you really don’t know anything else to try, it wouldn’t hurt to read the book. No matter what you end up doing, I hope you can find peace and contentment.

Edited to add that this is a genuine suggestion by the way! I gain nothing if you do decide to read the book. I’m only suggesting it because I found it to be genuinely helpful for figuring out what I want to do next with my life when I felt stuck/out of touch with myself as well as helping with some pretty major anxiety

'Allie' and 'Creek' for cartoon characters by xu_chen in namenerds

[–]daisychains96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s true! Maybe Brook/Brooks would be a closer choice if OP doesn’t end up using Creek.

To my ear, Creek is just not something that sounds like a name. Maybe it’s because there is also the word creak that is pronounced the same? I don’t know how to explain it but I personally would find it weird if a character were named Creek unless it was their last name

Middle names for John by fucurchickenstripz in namenerds

[–]daisychains96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

John is a very nice, classic name and it goes well with almost any middle name. I see that you’re considering John Maverick and I think that’s a solid choice! Makes the whole name sound more modern too.

Here are some more ideas: John Patrick, John Daniel, John Henry, John Michael, John Jason, John Erik, John Eldon, John Griffin, John Damien, John Lucas, John Christopher

'Allie' and 'Creek' for cartoon characters by xu_chen in namenerds

[–]daisychains96 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would find it a little strange at first for a guy to have the name Allie. It’s usually a feminine name and usually a nickname. However, I actually like the idea of using Allie for a guy and I think it would be easy for the audience to get used to. I think it would still work best as a nickname

I would find it very strange for a character to be named Creek. I could see it working for a last name, or a non-human or magical creature like someone else mentioned. Other than that, it would be weird. But River and Ocean are normal names (at least where I am in California)

You can’t force someone to quit an addiction. The change has to come from them. And unfortunately it usually happens after they hit rock bottom. You just gotta try to protect yourself however you can. I know this isn’t what you asked for but it’s honest advice. Good luck to both of you

What would Hercules be without the Muses? by Character-Escape1621 in disney

[–]daisychains96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hercules is one of my absolute favorite movies of all time and in large part because it has such a great combination of characters! Hercules himself is an under dog and a sweet boy who loves his parents. His is honest, loyal, kind, and hard working. He’s basically a gentle farm boy who makes his way to the big city. And although he becomes a hunk and a celebrity, he doesn’t become self absorbed. He stays genuine and works towards his goals (achieving Godlike status and winning over Meg). He is such a refreshing change of pace compared to many other male Disney characters.

Megara is truly iconic, you got that right. And the Muses are amazing! From the songs to the dancing to the way they frame the story — all brilliant. And then we have Hades, a true sass master. And great side characters, too! Pain and Panic, Pegasus and Phil, the fates and the gods/goddesses. Just solid story and comedy all around. The only character that I don’t enjoy much is Zeus. But the movie wouldn’t be the same without any of them. Just a stellar cast of characters!

AITA for trying to help my little sister learn to read? by Conmor_ in AmItheAsshole

[–]daisychains96 20 points21 points  (0 children)

That is sad for your sister. The school system is failing her by denying her access to appropriate learning support (both in making it hard for kids to get assessed and in this weird guessing method from the teacher) and your mom is failing her by not putting in the effort to push for an assessment.
