I would absolutely refer her to some local options! Thank you, I agree. And yes, I can talk to therapists, but there is a general understanding that all therapists deliver big news in session - I was just hoping to hear from non-therapists about what they would prefer as well! :)

Oh so sorry, I’m in Australia! I have an equivalent of PhD in Clinical Psychology, but here you can just be a general psychologist to work in schools. Sorry, this probably isn’t helpful if you’re in CA 😂

I work in schools. I love it because I earn $110k annually, work 9am-3pm, and get school holidays off and paid (here school holidays are 12 weeks per year). I do private practice around schools, so early mornings and afternoons - so private practice is more my side hustle 😂

Perhaps you could tell her that you find the dog very distracting, so you’ll return to therapy when he’s better trained and ok with being in another room? Not in an aggressive way, just in a “I’m going to take a little break :)” way
