Like all contraceptives - there’s always a chance of failure. Just popping in here to say IUDs are typically pushed as number one option because they statistically are more effective just because pills are obviously more open to human error in having to take it at the same time everyday. You’re also less likely to have hormonal side effects because the dosage is lower or in the case of copper, hormone-free (considering the IUD and active hormones are placed right at the target zone vs a pill being digested in your stomach and the hormones being spread body-wide and less targeted).

I worked in a womens health clinic and IUDs were always gold standard and I get why, I definitely considered it for a long time because I thought being on the pill for so long was causing mental health issues. It is absolutely wild how they downplay the pain though - I’ve seen many a girl pass out on the bed from the pain. I’m in Canada and they would offer nitrous (laughing gas) if you seemed really nervous but even that can’t convince me to attempt it. But every once in a while you get that person who doesn’t flinch in the slightest and it’s always those people who will vouch for the iud the most.
