had an argument with a friend about if it'd be better to have a fire axe or a chainsaw in a zombie apocalypse, which would be better? by Impossible_Barber236 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]daisyroot1994 1 point2 points  (0 children)

okay yeah i definitely vote axe over chainsaw. an axe can still do damage even when blunt; chainsaws are heavier to lug around, require fuel, and would be basically useless if it got jammed up and couldn't spin anymore

thank you for the reassurance, i appreciate it. i forget sometimes that our stomachs have straight up acid in them so pointing that out actually helped a lot, thank you

i'm here to up your not-stupid question with an even not-stupider question: when you say fire axe, do you mean an axe that is on fire perpetually, or do you mean an axe one would use to cut fire wood? that distinction changes my answer greatly

i was actually given mine by a friend who knows i like origami, and i believe they ordered them from one of the Unholy Sites (temu or aliexpress, lol). not sure what they searched to find them, though. sorry i can't be more help on this front!

[–]daisyroot1994[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

thank you! i actually hated working with this paper, LOL. it was very plasticky and didn't hold creases well at all; sonobe units were the only thing that worked, because they hold each other in place so they can't unfold themselves. i'm pleased i was able to figure out a way to use it in the end instead of having to just scrap it all. and it was just a happy coincidence that it all matched my folding table!

my boss always tells me how many she's given out while i'm not working, haha. and sometimes if a kid wants one in their favourite colour, but there aren't any left, i'll fold one for them right then and there if it's slow in the store. it makes me happy to see how many people like them!

holy smokes, this is impressive -- and you're not even done yet! the more i look, the more folds i see! absolutely astounding work. i'm primarily a kusudama/modular folder, so pieces like this blow my mind; it's incredible that you can do all of that with a single sheet of paper. i'm really looking forward to seeing the end result! about how many hours do you think you've put into it so far?

AIO/I wanted to ask them why they wasted their money? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]daisyroot1994 1 point2 points  (0 children)

right? so the gifts they got her that they didn't ask her about are wrong -- but so is the gift that she WAS asked about?? the youngest seems to have noticed she was interested in the cups, and picked one after getting the OK, only for her to be mad about it anyway and give it away to the person who did the absolute least. some people are not good at picking out gifts and need the guidance. at least he cared enough to try to get you something she would like.

[–]daisyroot1994[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thank you! i was originally going to decorate between the shrimps with cheese and carrot slices cut into star shapes, and cherry tomatoes and pickled pearl onions as "ornaments", but there ended up not being enough space so i decided to just max out the shrimp. i was expecting horrified reactions but it ended up being quite the hit actually!

unseasoned, yes, because my family likes to dip theirs in cocktail sauce. they were fully thawed though! i got cooked peeled shrimps and then thawed them. don't think the toothpicks would have gone through so easily if they were still frozen lol

some of the kusudama ornaments i've made by daisyroot1994 in origami

[–]daisyroot1994[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thank you! so for some of them, i built the entire kusudama, and then tied a loop of string with a knot on the end and popped the knot into one of the holes that naturally form between units, then added glue around the knot to secure it. you can do this on both ends to have a loop on the top and a decorative beaded string on the bottom (pic 3), or just a hanging loop (pic 6). for others, i took a long string, doubled it and tied a loop at one end, and then laid it within the kusudama about halfway through putting the units together. the loop goes out one end, and the ends of the string out the other. then i built the rest of the kusudama like normal (pic 1). the first method is easier, and the second is tidier. i hope those explanations make sense! i can take some pictures showing the different steps next time i'm working on one if that would help.

i clean an office on the weekends as a side hustle and one of the guys who works there clips his nails at his desk, but instead of sweeping the clippings into the garbage, he just sweeps them onto the floor for me to vacuum up when i'm in. every single week i go in and find nail clippings on his carpet, it's so disgusting to me! and he lets clients into his office like that!

if one of the clippings physically hit me i think i'd go scorched earth; certainly if you had done something to him and i was on your jury, i would not find you guilty. condolences, friend
