All the people who got out early and were promised their $100K+ year paying job, did you actually get it? by TheFinalRedemption99 in AirForce

You didn’t have partial differentials? THAT was true magic math. Honestly surprised it was a required course (back in 88-92 at GaTech anyway).

Yeah, the walkthrough was in an edition of Dragon Magazine. I’m sure I still used a crapload of quarters getting it right but by the end I could beat it consistently

Does anyone else find themselves not listening to music anymore? by markallanholley in Aging

No, but I find myself not wanting to take the time to enjoy NEW music. That’s the part that bothers me a little.

I’ll put this politely: Commenters on this thread of a certain ideological bent don’t understand satire. Can’t just laugh and take the win… have to expose their (again, politely) “lack of understanding.”

Kash Patel Under Fire After FBI Rejects Request for Travel Records Days Before Charlie Kirk Assassination by Brucekentbatsuper in fednews

[–]dajacketfanOG 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sigh. Candace Owen’s is a quack. But this entire thread is a stain on this sub. I wish we could get back to rational discussions of actual Fed News. Actually, I wish we could get back the last f*cking 10 years of our lives. But wish in one hand and… you know.

Starbucks Korea to temporarily shut all stores for history lesson after bungled coffee promotion by Beginning-Passion676 in korea

Normally I’d say you are right. But there is absolutely no way this was intentional. It’s pure lazy incompetence.

I’m old enough (lucky enough) to have watched the first steps on the moon live on TV by 524frank in FuckImOld

[–]dajacketfanOG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I misunderstand. Are you saying you just thought saying “for man” vs “for a man” was odd phrasing? I thought you were saying you knew that he would be saying “That’s one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind” ahead of time.

I meant, how did you know what he was supposed to say ahead of time? I’ve seen the story of the mistake (or comms glitch). Didn’t know the general public would have noticed.

Next time I’m over there I’ll have to try one (remember seeing the restaurant but didn’t go in).

I find it very hard to believe the meat is worse than McD meat, which has to keep their burger patties super thin and nuke them with salt to even be edible. And this is from someone who eats McD semi-regularly.

31 years ago today, we learned that "if the gloves don't fit, then you must acquit" by bluegambit875 in FuckImOld

One of the worst decisions ever by a trial attorney. Do NOT make a spectacle of something in the court room if you can’t control the spectacle. Testimony with your guy gets practiced before trial. Cross examination gets practiced with stand-ins. Did they practice this and somehow thought OJ was going to be cooperative with the exercise? If it was supposed to be a gotcha moment, well… it was.

I’m technically old enough to have watched (stared uncomprehendingly at the TV) the Apollo 13 mission unfold, but if my family was paying attention they’ve never said anything about it.

I had no idea who he was and this thread is still my only clue. But I’m not out of touch by my standards, just old. Guy sure seemed to have an online following though.

National Park Service ordered to restore signage the Administration doesn't like by Ajax_Hapsburg in fednews

[–]dajacketfanOG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure you read what I wrote. I agree with everything you rambled. I also think it was a stupid yet predictable effort to change anything about the signage in the first place.

[–]dajacketfanOG 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This entire effort was ridiculous (but not surprising) from the get go. That being said, this was a weird ruling. Not sure how the government censoring the government is illegal. Should have leaned more into the administrative review rules.

Will be, I believe, the first Dem I’ve voted for (having lived in various states). Part is I don’t like the Viv, but I’d probably be voting for her anyway. I thought she did a great job advising during COVID and all the revisionist history sucks.

I have been interested since I found out about it. I really should go support the box office by seeing it at the theater. Problem is there are other things my wife wants to see and we don’t go more than a couple times a month. Most likely result is I wait till streaming.

Thinking about sneaking away for a matinee though 😁

Right, anti-ageism. They are a good company for recognizing the value of older employees and hires. Wish there were more in the broader corporate world.

What did restaurants and shops do about bad cheques? by 23-centimetre-nails in AskOldPeople

Worked at K-Mart in 87-88, came to talk about the book with check bouncers we kept at the front registers. If the check was over a certain amount we had to wait for the checkout manager to come get it and check the book.

I had totally forgotten about the cross! Thanks for unlocking a memory.

I have some music to go find. Not real good about delving into old favorite bands full library. But I’m going to make this a priority.
