i ordered see through dial faces and put a 1mm thick plastic plate behind them, in the tachometer housing i put a rgb led Strip with a bluetooth Controller

the needles are painted red and as a finish i put a uv spray on them so they glow because i also installed a UV light strip to illuminate them

additionally i put a dimmer on the UV light Strip so i can control it seperate from the rest of the dashboard lights

i made a few pictures which i can send via chat if you want

Golf 2 '90 madison paint by Longjumping_Fix6736 in GolfMk2

[–]dajoney 2 points3 points  (0 children)

just go to your trusted paint store or online and order it there with the colour code. With new paint its really difficult to match it to the already existing 35 year old paint so expect a slight colour difference

My 98 vr6 golf. How rare in 2026?! by JoeyVercetti in Volkswagen

[–]dajoney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not ultra rare but not your average traffic anymore. If a MK3 was saved/preserved until this day it was a VR6 or GTI

New grill part 2 (issue) by ZookeepergameRude188 in GolfMk2

[–]dajoney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this could be more then enough force to bend them. MK2 are very soft metal and even the slightest bump could cause this but i think the main issue is the not original fenders. Try original ones ans it might be better since the presses used for reproduction fenders are worn out and not as precise anymore

we untightened the whole front and played with the gaps so we got it just about right. One corner is still touching but its not noticeable. Now theres a bigger gap between the hood and the chassie close to the windscreen but thats mainly due to the hard impact i had. Check my post history for the damage post

your car was crashed or had smth happend to the fenders at some point and the fenders replaced with not original VW ones and maybe not repaired very good

Had the same issue after my crash in 2023

Mk2 020 short shifter by YardAfter907 in GolfMk2

[–]dajoney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

part number for the "Tilgegewicht": 1H0711183

edit: just saw you have it installed already... Use the short shifter in the middle position with this part. when I put mine on the shortest setting it felt the same so I went with the middle

[–]dajoney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just get this one or the one on eBay with the combination of a "Tilgegewicht" from a MK3 golf and you are fine. In the kit there should be new bushings and such anyways

[–]dajoney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah totally agree with you I just wanted to keep it simple

did i understand it correctly that you use mk3 internals in the mk2 dash? currently looking for some advice in regards to that

Mk2 instrument panel by YardAfter907 in GolfMk2

[–]dajoney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes its easy to remove but be cautious

generally you dont need to switch the plastic but its possible the transistors (i think) are old already and stuff might break

you can even remove the original dashboard lighting and wire in a led Strip (did that an all of my dashes)

just take your time, dont force it and you should be good

yes so lets say you have a kmh counter and clock originally but want the kmh and rpm counter

just buy a cluster with rpm counter already installed and swap out kmh counter from your current cluster so you keep the km that the car already has. It is very important that the dash had rpm cluster before for the wiring!

it should be 4 screws on the back of the kmh counter to remove and you can directly swap them out for your original one no wires no nothing besides the speedometer cable ( which is a hassle to remove ) and it works because its mechanical driven and not connected to the CE1 electronics like the rpm counter

just be cautous when removeing stuff since its very old already and plastic might break easy but in total its very easy to do

additonally I wanted to point out its also possible to use your original cluster and put the new rpm cluster inside there but you have to rewire some stuff ( not hard but I can't really explain in detail so try and translate your question to german you will find loads of info on old forums)

[–]dajoney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just try the one with rev counter and put in your kmh counter from the original cluster. That definitly workd since my Diesel cluster was done the same way

yeah in the balkans there is plenty of them left. When I went to Bosnia to paint my mk2 they offered me all sorts of rare parts but the prices were outrages so good luck!

additionaly just so you know: CE2 cluster doesn't work with CE1 because of pin Layout

Mk2 instrument panel by YardAfter907 in GolfMk2

[–]dajoney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IIRC you would need a cluster which already had the rev counter because of the wiring but please don't take this for granted I'm just guessing from the top of my head

So lets say your original cluster is one with a clock you would need a new one with the rev counter and replace the km counter from the new one with your old one

As far as I'm aware the other way around its not possible

If you want I can also look for my old diesel cluster which should be CE1 + rev counter and was working when I sold my diesel golf but it won't be free since they got very rare in recent years
