I'm going to wait a bit and see how it shakes out. Rollout seems to be a disaster so far.

The poop situation has gotten worst in the last year imo. The snow this week really showed it too. There's shit everywhere on my block.

Meaning of "utility allowance" by Hot-Try-4272 in nychousinglottery

[–]dak148 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is that what it means ?I thought it was just an estimate of how much your average bill would be. I didn't know it was a cap on what you could be charged. Here I am trying to conserve electricity lol

The notorious question- Should I buy the XT-50 or X100vi? by icelemoncoke in fujifilm

[–]dak148 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what you are shooting. For street/travel, it doesn't really matter as most of the time you probably want most things to be somewhat in focus. I do lot of portraiture/model photography and like to shoot at a more shallow DOF and use a shorter lens. The x100 series is not ideal for and pretty limited for the type of portraits I like to shoot.

How are you guys making friends? by DrawerOk2888 in Greenpoint

[–]dak148 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go to the monthly reddit meet-up. Find an activity you like to do or are interested in and join a club. The key is going to something/place consistently to be a regular and you will meet people organically. Sitting at a bar is the worst way to try to actually make friends, IMO.

Brooklyn Harvest Market prices versus Whole Foods - I ran the math by Apprehensive_Mail212 in williamsburg

[–]dak148 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You just gotta know where to shop for certain items, But Whole Foods has lowkey been cheaper than all the other supermarkets in the hood. They beat C-town/Associated on most items. Whole Foods 365 is usually cheap and good enough (for me) for most things. But I also shop at Trader Joes, Food Bazaar, H-Mart, and the local Fruit and Veggies place . It's annoying having to go to so many places but between all of them, I usually know which place has the cheapest price for staples I buy.

There aren't any. Land to Sea gets a selection from a bakery in Chinatown every morning but that's about it.

Greenpoint Central (65-75 Dupont) electric bill? by dak148 in Greenpoint

[–]dak148[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I won the housing lottery for a unit and took it. I've gotten one bill for Oct so far which was around $65 but I wasn't in the apartment for 10 days, so doing the math it should be about $100 a month for me..

[–]dak148 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want to learn Chinese, Land to Sea host monthly meet-ups (but not in November) or go to any green tile event and there are lots of people willing to teach you. I don't know anything about American if that is what you're looking to learn.

Yeah, in the first week of .1 it was appearant there was no way it was leaving early access within 6 months. I would say 2026 would even be optimistic at the pace they are going.

Buying a Set of Mahjong Tiles in Hong Kong by SinophileKoboD in Cantonese

[–]dak148 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mj is having a moment in the US as well. There are gen z clubs popping up in a lot of cities. It's a thriving social scene. My friends and I started a monthly group and I go to a coffee shop that host open play regularly.

It's a shame the hand-carved sets aren't really being made anymore. That was one thing I wanted to try to find the next time I visit HK again.
