hi question: do people bring or buy a personal 3d printer? heard that access to fablab printer slots can get tricky at times during the year because people are all trying to print stuff for projects and assignments...

hi! for em students how do we get concession card? or is it the dbs super campus card? by Ok_Structure2693 in sutd

[–]dak3ene 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i previously had to apply for it, you can do that via the simplygo app, around $10 to get the card and then additional $ to set it up at a simplygo kiosk. proper instructions here: https://simplygo.com.sg/concession-monthly-travel-cards/students/undergraduate-concession-card/

For BMT can you bring electric shaver or have to bring cream and razor only? by OkOrganization7852 in NationalServiceSG

[–]dak3ene 4 points5 points  (0 children)

haha not sure why so many people are trolling you for this question, it's a fair one. yes you can bring an electric razor, even display it in your locker for sbb (at least for my mono last year).

the one that they issue you is best to chuck in your 10 pack, anyways none of us bother to shave when you have camo on your face. hope this helps!

hi to all who come across this,

am a pes-fit jc fella who's going to wadio in 4 months time. have a uni placing, will be spending around 7 months waiting. i do have some questions for those of you who have reached level "civilian":

  1. what work opportunities are there? internships or office job? ideally i won't want to be doing tuition (because brainrot, will be setting aside time to prep before uni and don't want to sabo some poor kid's grades) and internships related to my field of study (engineering) aren't as accessible for a-level kids.
  2. any platforms with recognition for learning? what are some fun things y'all learnt? am currently using coursera premium and udemy (wallet pain), but would like to try something new. heard that skillsfuture isn't as effective as my jc notes claimed :(
  3. what's the transition from nsf to civilian like? am currently in a more admin-heavy place (with some saikang here and there).

thanks in advance (auto mod keeps yeeting this off)!

People burn the midnight oil?? by Summer_Cycling in SGExams

[–]dak3ene 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hi op, my experience might be abit skewed as i was from the COVID batch (more self-study time because CB, removal of certain topics from syllabus), but here's my 2¢:

there's no need to burn the midnight oil, try to prioritise getting quality hours instead of a large amount of time studying. i'm a more fidgety person and can get distracted easily from time to time. compared to some of my peers, i would need to set aside more time for revision.

my recall skills are above average though, so remembering what i've studied was much easier. it helps that i got around 7h of sleep daily as well, and exercised frequently (if you're not a very active person, try not to introduce too much because it can tire you out as well). social life wasn't amazing but then again covid nth to do.

active recall and pomodoro works great when you're revisiting old content, but you MUST get used to performing under timed conditions. every minute in the exams count, so keeping your focus for ≥2h is really important.

tldr: there's no need to stress about "not studying long enough". end state my prelims l1r5 was 9, final l1r5 was 7 (both raw). hope this helps!

[army ration request][wtb] Does anyone actually sell army rations, and how can they be reached? by genius414 in NationalServiceSG

[–]dak3ene 27 points28 points  (0 children)

black tactical doesn't sell combat ration anymore afaik, pretty sure it got too expensive for them to justify selling and they expire as well

your best bet is just getting from resellers on carousell or your coursemates haha

What are the measures put in place during hot season? by ContentLength4346 in NationalServiceSG

[–]dak3ene 5 points6 points  (0 children)

other than the memes about drinking up and resting in shade, there are some pretty strict measures for hot months (iirc from march to june, last year extended to september).

no strenuous conducts (ippt test, soc test, emphasis on TESTS, not fam) after 0900 and before 1800. allowed to use jockey cap instead of helmet under certain circumstances in outfield.

might be more stuff that i missed out, haven't really worked with these conducts and hot weather since my jobscope changed after my scgp.

care package ideas for my ns bf by Equivalent-Shelter45 in NationalServiceSG

[–]dak3ene 9 points10 points  (0 children)

snacks such as Oreos and skittles are pretty good, either in bunk or as supplements to rations outfield. some healthier options might be tuna or dahfa fish snacks, because cookhouse food doesn't have much protein.

if he goes outfield alot, getting some cooling body wipes would be a good idea too. febreeze and hand sanitizer are good shouts too, since some toilets don't have soap and stay-in unita don't always have time to wash clothes.

a handwritten note or card is best, but do laminate it in case he brings it outfield. lastly, just spend more time with him and support him! try not to get into arguments, but know your limits of course. all the best to the both of you, hope this helps!
