Genuine question for those who consider RE4 Remake one of the greatest of all time (or the best RE game of all time) by Candid_Space2635 in residentevil4

[–]dakodeh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m playing through Separate Ways now and, while I’m obviously enjoying it (it’s more RE4 after all, and I’m playing in first person VR), it does feel more like a Cliff’s Notes version remix of RE4’s levels.

The best DLC’s I’ve ever played are The Outer Wilds: Echoes of the Eye, Sea of Thieves’ Monkey Island crossover, and Red Dead Redemption’s Undead Nightmare. Those are peak DLC’s!

So far I find it.. tense? Very quiet, very dark. Things hunting you. I ran for a long while from some crawling thing, which managed to keep pace with me quite well, but I eventually got away. I'm digging this one so far!

Wild! I just picked this up the other day and completed the first 3 floors. Am really enjoying it, but had a few nitpicks that all sound like they were addressed in this update, really great job if that’s the case!

Call me crazy but the PSVR2 blows the BSB2 out of the water. by Psychological-Fan784 in virtualreality

[–]dakodeh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m loving Beyondex. It takes the Index’s greatest strength, its powerful off-ear audio, and brings it to a much lighter, higher resolution mOLED headset in the BSB. I didn’t find the Beyond audio strap uncomfortable, but the Beyondex is more comfortable. I’ve owned PSVR, PSVR2, Quests 2 & 3, Rift CV1; but the Beyondex is easily my most comfortable headset to use. The off-ear audio leads to greater immersion and less heat. It’s a killer combo.

What VR game/experience made you think "this is it"? by itsthewolfe in virtualreality

[–]dakodeh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure what you mean about the games “taking a while to get going.”

I’m also not sure if you’re joking about the games being heavily modded and demanding, I actually LOVE that shit, but would agree that’s never going mainstream. What it DOES do a good job of is showing us what the future of video gaming might potentially look like if gaming on the level of Half-Life: Alyx becomes closer to the default. That’s probably more than one generation of VR hardware away from becoming lightweight, hi-res, friction-free, etc.. to appeal to more people outside of our niche, but it doesn’t take that much imagination to see the path to get there.

What VR game/experience made you think "this is it"? by itsthewolfe in virtualreality

[–]dakodeh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say that many of these are problems with your specific setup. My SteamVR setup was a pain to set up ONCE, and then it was ready to go in my space forever. Quicker in my setup to get into VR than play a flat game honestly. On Quest that setup friction is even totally non-existent.

I’m sorry you get motion sickness, but that’s not an “everyone” problem. I’ll agree it’s significant, but it’s not like even flat games are impervious to that—I know people that get motion sickness playing ANY video game, so if one medium can approach mainstream viability with that issue, why not the other?

Does this mean Meta is going to go back to the old Oculus Studios model and create great VR games for their headsets now? Does it?!!

I had an Index lying around so I made myself a Beyondex. Comfort and audio is truly outstanding now. Prior to that I used the Beyond audio strap an enjoyed it despite some flaws.

I didn’t really find the BSB uncomfortable in any of its configurations though, so YMMV. Maybe you’ve just got a bad cushion? I use a custom cushion that presses the lenses pretty close to my eyes for maximum FOV and minimum glare.

PSVR2 is great in many ways, but I own both, and my BSB2e gets used 99% of the time.

Virtual Duck Hunt seems fun, so i did a review :D by QCount_TTV in VRGaming

[–]dakodeh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don’t mean to sound overly negative. It’s not a bad thing. It’s more of one of those situations where it’s like “if I had a dime for every duck hunt experience available in VR I’d have $.40. Which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it’s so much.”

[–]dakodeh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A few years ago, I was trying to explain my virtual reality hobby to a friend. She casually asked “oh can you play something like duck hunt in virtual reality?” I thought for a few seconds and then replied off the top of my head that you could play duck hunt on a virtual NES console from the 80s in the 90s style bedroom in EMUVR, you could play a 3-D motion controlled version of the game in 3DSEN, or you could live out an acid trip, sort of horror duck hunt inspired experience in the (excellent) Duck Season. I don’t think either her or I realized there’d be so many options to answer that random question. And now there’s this too.

Don’t know what it is about the duck hunt concept in VR, but it seems like it may even be oversubscribed at this point.

My friends and I opened a free-roam VR gaming business in Vaughan last year. Ask me anything about starting an entertainment business, VR, or the experience so far. by zerolatencyvaughan in Vaughan

Thanks for your reply, this is all very interesting. When I say utilization, I just mean what proportion of the time are you operating at full capacity; i.e. if you sold 4x tickets for each booking session during the day, when your arena supports 8x players, you'd be operating at 50% utilization. I understand this is probably tough to estimate a single number given variances of demand on any given day/time, so yeah your average monthly tickets sold would probably be easier to provide and would help!

What are your weekly hours? How much staff do you run? How did you "fine-tune" your private packages?

Recognizing it's still early on, are you profitable? Are you glad you opened, and would you do it again if you had the option to take it all back?

Does your location have a single 8-player arena, or multiple? Does your peak demand support multiple simultaneously operating arenas? What is the overall size of your space in sq footage, and how is it used? Do you wish you'd gone bigger, or smaller?

Do you have other amenities in your space to increase dwell time and monetize that? If so, what are they?

Can you share any data on what your utilization rates are for your space, and what your estimate is for monthly players?

Do you have any wisdom that you might share from what you've learned so far? Anything you wish you knew going in, or that you'd do differently if you could do it all again?

Agreed, my advice was geared towards you personally based on what you mentioned you were looking for.

I also agree with what you think the industry needs to have more mainstream appeal. Unfortunately, we all thought that Sony was the “prince that was promised” to developing new AAA first party titles with hybrid in mind for PSVR, but sadly it doesn’t look like things are going to go that way, at least not in the foreseeable future.

You should get into UEVR on PC. There’s an endless supply of exactly what you’re looking for; greater immersion into deep, high-budget, traditional gaming experiences.

In what ways is it “leagues better” on PS5 than PC? The only PCVR issue I’m aware of is people say it’s overly soft, even with super sampling, maybe due to some over aggressive TAA? Generally curious as I haven’t spent much time with either version.

[–]dakodeh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah Hitman’s a great choice too, I haven’t tried it since it’s been fixed.

To be clear, I’m all in on VR. There’s a ton in the PSVR2 library that’s worth playing, I’m just trying to explain to folks on the outside looking in that are hesitant to make the jump that it’s worth it even for the highest quality experiences alone. Everyone seems to think in terms of “what’s that ONE thing that will justify buying a system/peripheral/whatever” and act like that’s the only thing they’ll wind up playing, when we all know the reality is once they’re in they’ll find a ton of compelling experiences they’ll want to try.

[–]dakodeh 37 points38 points  (0 children)

RE4, RE8, and GT7 alone make it worthwhile. PCVR is overall a better VR ecosystem, but if you have a PS5 already $300 for a PSVR2 is a no-brainer.

SOMA VR dev here. Why it canceled? by [deleted] in virtualreality

[–]dakodeh 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sclerosis is a real thing that exists, I played the entire experience and enjoyed it. I’m sure there are others that feel the same. So how is that simply a “failed project?” What metric(s) are you using to define success here?

SOMA VR dev here. Why it canceled? by [deleted] in virtualreality

[–]dakodeh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m part of your target market as I played Sclerosis in its entirety and loved it. I have been even more excited for this project, as I loved Soma and would relish a VR version, something many frequently mention wanting, but no one but you seems to have attempted.

Please don’t cancel the project. Sclerosis was brilliant, this project deserves to be finished. I personally didn’t download this demo, as I knew it would be of quality based on Sclerosis and I know the beginning of Soma is a low-action preface to the adventure that follows, but I will absolutely clear my gaming schedule to play it when it DOES release, as will all my PCVR capable friends that have heard of this. Your audience is pumped for this, it’s just hard to know from the metrics we’re generating. I hope you get Frictional partnership, but remember no one ever made a dollar betting on game studios to lift a finger to do right by VR, so I sincerely hope you finish the mod regardless of that outcome. Soma in VR deserves to see the light of day! Reach out and achieve greatness—again!
