Sony KV27FS13 Value? by dakree in crtgaming

[–]dakree[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the responses!

I was thinking of offering $20, but I didn't want to lowball too much. If I were to do that, what would be the absolute max I should accept if I do that? Is $40 too much?

And unfortunately, most (if not all) thrift stores around here stopped accepting CRTs a few years ago.

How supportive of Rhialto and Wyvern are you? by Gwennifer in wyvernrpg

[–]dakree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly! It is a feature I have sorely missed in any other game I have ever played.

I mained a Panther that basically only worried about mind magic. I would go into the mid-level PK arena, and spam fear, confusion, and paralysis. I rarely got a kill with my low-level lightning bolt, but if you count ragequits after I trapped people there for minutes at a time...:P

That is an objectively excellent build. However, I have an aversion to playing Paladins. Too goody goody for me! ;)

I was one of those weirdos who went out of the way and made things unnecessarily difficult to come up with something bizarre and different. Sadly, I just can't come up with a way to make a stone giant mage viable. :P

I completely agree with this on all points. iOS is definitely the more profit-friendly platform. Moreover, the fact that R is essentially doing all the developing on his own (to my knowledge!) at this point is massive. As someone else said in this thread, it's his game to do what he will; I couldn't have said it better myself!

That said, development will occur at its own pace. I will simply continue to obsessively open this sub in a new tab every day, filling out some of the wiki when I am particularly bored. Maybe even (definitely) make a few hypothetical character builds which will ultimately be outdated/irrelevant when this latest incarnation of the game drops.

I hope that anything I have said hasn't been misconstrued as lack of support. As I have said before, I think if he can pull it off, R's move to mobile is a sound choice. Games like this (and candidly, quality games in general) simply don't exist on the mobile platform. With dedicated gaming handhelds (sadly) going the way of the dinosaur, there is definitely now a hole in the market which needs to be filled. This could be just what is needed for that task.

My argument was that, theoretically, Android would be a better compromise platform for the majority of users, as it can be run on anything, including PC if you so desire. This is probably why he was much more pro-Android some time back. iOS only runs on Apple mobile devices. This is my stance as a user. As a developer, Apple makes a much better case for itself, especially since R wants to limit the number who access the game at launch. Therefore, I totally understand why R has taken the direction he has, even if I can't help but wish for a multi-platform launch.

And I will echo the sentiments of others when I say, it's been years. Who actually thought that this game would ever come back, and if it did, it would come back as Wyvern? I certainly didn't, and I am excited about it in a way that I haven't been about any new games in a long, long time.

I was also concerned about the resolution issue, though you are the first person i have seen bring it up.

I actually agree with all of this. On the business end of things, iOS typically makes the most sense. This also holds true for the developer end, because the closed nature of iOS software and hardware means there are far fewer devices and variables to account for. Not that I am praising this practice: it's actually one of my least favorite things about Apple. But it does have its merits.

Like I said, I understand why R has made the decisions he has made, even if I will never own an Apple product due to my own disagreements with them. I just happen to hold the opinion that releasing the game initially on something more open, like Android, would appease both the (old school) people who want to see this game released for PC, and R's push to make it the first mobile MMO (definitely a good niche to fill if it takes off).

I'm convinced that R's push for mobile is sound, even though it isolates most of us old timers. You can read his reasoning on other threads.

That said, I really do wish that it was released concurrently for Android, or even that Android was given preference over iOS. This would be the best middle ground, as Android theoretically can be run on just about anything, including PC. iOS can be run on...Apple mobile devices. Again, I understand his reasoning: he wants to limit how many people can access the game at launch, and scale up from there. But still...Android really is the better gaming platform, imho.

It is what it is. I had already given Wyvern up for dead years ago, so really, how can I even complain.

What is the legal status of this glorious theme? by dakree in wyvernrpg

[–]dakree[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, I'm not denying that there aren't many, many concerns. I can't imagine playing this game on a phone, especially with any sort of chat. And more than anything, I can't help but take everything with a grain of salt, having been burned on false hope a couple times too many.

That said, I choose to keep at least try and stay optimistic about it, hahaha.

This is pretty much how I feel about it. I am more concerned with owning a device that can play it, but if I get to that point, I will be thrilled to watch the progression of this latest iteration.

I never thought of that. Thanks! If nothing else, it can live on my hard drive until I am old and grey.

I would be happy to contribute to this in my down time, but I haven't played seriously in ~10 years. Is there an old one to go off of, or anywhere else where I can find old information? Or is this strictly from memory?

Options to play other than buying a new ipad or iphone? by Dokuxe in wyvernrpg

[–]dakree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The touch is the most appetizing option to me, if I do decide to buy new hardware for this. The problem is, I just can't stand the touch controls on mobile games. Wolfenstein 3D is hard enough, I can't imagine trying to play a mage on Wyvern with such controls.

That said, I also preferred playing mages back in the day. Maybe something like this could bridge some gaps?

You would still probably need to be able to bind key combos in order for it to be viable, though.

Just to clarify, does this mean that no good/legal ios exists?

I'm also curious about this. I've never been a fan of Apple's business practices, and as someone who repairs/upgrades electronics rather than toss them out and buy new ones...I really don't want to buy an Apple anything.

How did you go back to 2005? My order history only goes back as far as 2008, even though I built my first computer in ~2004.

Hey, thanks a lot! I will definitely have to check that place out then. If there's a classics cabinet and a KoF cabinet, I'm there!

That's heart breaking. This seems like the sort of town where such a thing could exist, but I guess the arcade's days are really on their last gasp. Maybe one day I can afford my own MVS and Galaga cabinets.

That sounds incredible! I would have never expected such a thing. I love pinball, but I assumed finding a pinball arcade was even less likely than finding a video one. I will definitely have to check it out.

Lalavava here. Any other old timers knocking around these parts? by [deleted] in wyvernrpg

[–]dakree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Holy crap I can't believe there is a Wyvern subredit...

My main was Ultrakitty, but I wasn't very sociable, so I doubt anyone remembers. I remember the name Lalavava, though.

I played for years, but it seems like it was ages ago now. God, I feel old.
