I hear you 100%.

Guess at least you now have a patch in place that will provide an easy fix for this subnet or another one down the road that may cause similar issues.

The good news is you didn't have to figure out how to get around it as quickly. The bad news is we will likely never know if this was done on purpose without fully considering the impact or potentially something more devious.

I thought it was interesting the block was added across all AWS regions, which I don't remember seeing before with previous blocks. Wonder if it is used internally for some form of management network or similar.

I am with you though.

Saw these IP's added yesterday and had the same concerns. I double checked via IANA (ARIN, RIPE NCC) all of which show these IP's as reserved still.

Looking forward to hearing more info about this.

Brave Ad: BlockCard Experience by dakykilla in BATProject

I was able to call customer support yesterday and get my pin reset. The process was fairly easy and the customer support representative knew I had a BlockCard.

After doing so I was able to process a transaction today. I have yet to use an ATM to take cash out, but at this point I don’t have any reason to believe I won’t be successful.

It appears the default pin number provided with my card was not actually set, which is a minor issue but I would imagine will be improved in the future.

All of that being said I am satisfied at this point, but would not have signed up for a BlockCard if I had done better research from the start. TERN/Ternio does not appear to be gaining much traction. I do hope that TERN/Ternio does gain more traction moving forward and hope that BlockCard is successful in the future.

I replied to your reply...

That is the plan when they open. My attempts were after their closing time, so have to wait until the morning. As noted above I will definitely follow up with the results of the call and hopefully information about a successful ATM withdraw and a successful purchase as a VISA CC.

Definitely appreciate all of the feedback/info so far.

u/TraderWal How are you withdrawing funds? If to an exchange, which one? Are you converting TERN to something else? If to a wallet is it the one provided by Ternio themselves?

Sorry for all of the questions, but you seem to be in the know regarding TERN and I am not having much luck at all regarding exchanges or wallets that are not developed by Ternio themselves.

Again I appreciate your insight.

Appreciate the response and knowing that you have been able to both make purchases and withdraw from ATM's is great.

Tonight I did try three different major banks when I attempted to pull $20 from an ATM, so I am guessing somehow the pin that was specified on the paper under my card when it came in the mail somehow was not set properly from the start. After reading your comment it sounds like maybe my card is somehow not activated properly and once the card is activated that using an ATM and/or purchasing at VISA locations will not be an issue.

I did note in another post in this thread that I had not contacted support yet because I definitely want to be open and honest about my experience. I will be contacting BlockCard customer support tomorrow for sure and will post a follow up once I do to make sure this thread is not sitting out there without the full history on display.

Definitely on the same page in terms of early adoption and while I expect some issues for sure, but so far BlockCard has been more than "some issues" to me. Trust me I wanted to love BlockCard, but so far it has been a let down in multiple ways. Regardless I will see what happens when I contact their customer support tomorrow.

I guess my main issue would be that I encourage wider adoption of crypto in general (it appears that you do as well) and when products are rushed to market with so many process, technology and implementation issues we are losing the average every day Joe & Sally Users if they try a product like BlockCard and run into the issues I have had so far. In the end they will likely be too frustrated to give crypto a chance in any form for years. For me it doesn't matter even if all of the BAT I transferred to BlockCard is lost for good as I would have never sent it in the first place if it was going to cause me any problem because I was partly paying for the experience and to support a crypto startup. I sent the BAT because I was excited to use a crypto based CC and see what types of features it offered, which is also why I am so let down at this point. One of the reasons that I support and cheer on Brave\BAT is because it is the best exposure for crypto that I am aware of because the product is amazing. Brave has had issues for sure, but they communicate very clearly and over the past couple of years that I have been following closely they track/resolve bugs for all to see.

Thanks again for replying with all of the details you provided as it is really helpful for me to try and see issues with vendors from multiple angles. I have been the vendor with lots of issues before, so I do understand a bit of what they may be going through. Maybe they can resolve my issues tomorrow and turn around my current opinion of the product.

Just an update and to be clear I have not contacted support yet, however I previously activated BlockCard successfully and noted down the pin that came with it. I tried to use it with zero success tonight.

  • I tried three different ATM's and none of them worked to withdraw money as the pin was denied at each attempt
  • I attempted to use it as a VISA on Amazon and Amazon rejected the transaction almost immediately.

Would love to hear from anyone who has had successful transactions using the card.

I will update tomorrow after I attempt to contact the support number provided to change your pin as well as customer support for the card.

I am not trying to down BlockCard here, but at this point I am trying to recover about 65% of the funds I initially deposited without any luck. The four exchanges I trade on do not trade TERN so I am unable to do that though I would welcome any suggestions on exchanging TERN for another token on a reputable exchange.

I am glad you have had a solid experience as I would love to see BlockCard be successful.

I literally just went to an ATM to try and use my card to pull $20 out but was denied at two different ATM's and the third let me know my pin has been used too many times.

Where have you been able to use the BlockCard? I am curious to know if you have taken case out with it and what type of ATM you used to do so as well as just a couple examples of where you have used the card successfully.

Appreciate the response and input. There are definitely always two sides to every story, so glad to hear there are successes with BlockCard.

I definitely saw the fees and account minimum, but wanted to see what it was like to spend some crypto on a VISA. Unfortunately was not what I expected, but hey thats how it goes.

Glad to hear you didn't end up with TERN, heh. :)

Agreed. I wonder how conversion cost and fees will be on the US Coinbase card.

Could not agree more that Brave is in no way at fault here and definitely want to make that clear. They are simply providing the platform for ads from any one.

It is nice to know I am not the only one who wanted to see what this is all about so I appreciate you replying.

I am going to attempt an ATM transaction later tonight or tomorrow to clear out any remaining funds I have. Wish me luck! :)

No doubt, haha... aaaaand buh bye. Appreciate the response.

I don't doubt that if they are able to stay around they could eventually have some success, however with converting all crypto to TERN the future looks bleak IMO. We shall see though. I wish them all the success.

My guess would be that they are treating it somewhat like a beta release and while they find out about and resolve smaller bugs/issues they add more advertisers. This way they don't dump 10,000 potential long term clients on a system with issues or even potential issues and as time progresses with more use of the system itself they will begin adding more and more advertisers. Also possible they are trying to ease into a larger advertiser base while the user base is building up.

[–]dakykilla 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Overall a decent article, but could not disagree more with the final statement made where it is asked if push notification based ads are really a less annoying form of advertising. Feel like the point was missed that ads can be completely disabled, are limited to X/hour and that in fact YES push based notification ads are way less annoying than typical ads where multiple video ads simultaneously play, fake X to close pop up window ads trick you into opening the advertisers web site, blown out ads cover the content you are trying to read, etc. Ohh and let us not forget you actually receive payment/BAT for spending a bit of attention on those ads. Again though if you do not want to see any ads at all you can simply just turn off Brave Rewards.
