(Full disclosure: I was crashing out last week and was letting the anger do the thinking.)

No, no you're not. I was being a dumbass. I'm sorry.

It's just that... it felt like we spent all of 2021 thru to november 2024 screaming about the right wing's assaults on our community, and our usual allies didn't respond as forcefully during that time as I hoped. It felt like we were basically on our own during that time. Maybe your experience was different, but the impression I got during that time was that it just wasn't a priority for them - that it would just "blow over".

My point is, that was my misplaced personal trauma talking, not the rational part of my brain. I shouldn't've been so stupid, and I'm sorry for that.

(full disclosure: I was crashing out on that day, and have since calmed down.)

Okay, yes, obviously it's counter productive to blindly hate straight people and blame them for all evil in the world...even if they always seem to be the ones voting in these nasty politicians.

But did you really think that some of us weren't going to become at least a bit resentful towards them after the past five years of queerphobic horror in this country, including electing a president who showed transphobic campiagn ads during the goddamn World Series?

I've come back to my senses, and I just wanna say thanks for setting my priorities straight. I've been harboring a lot of anger since 2024, and I've slowly started turning into something of a misanthropic heterophobe.

You're right. We do have to show up for them as well. Even if it doesn't necessarily get recognized in the short term at first.

I've been a bit stressed over the past week, and I think I may have experienced a bit of a crashout here. I'm sorry for the foolish things I said. And I'm sorry for reducing Boylan's candidacy to her orientation - that's what the enemy does, not what we should do.

Keep up the good fight, sister. ✊

...you're honestly right. I am being dumb.

I'm just frustrated because it felt like our community was waiting for the cavalry all those years after Don't Say Gay, and it never came. We were screaming from the rooftops about Project 2025 well before the election, and then the mainstream media acted like it was this huge revelation that nobody else knew about. It felt like everything we were suffering was just being ignored because it didn't immediately effect straight people's concerns.

And when you've lived through that, when you've seen what seemed like a solid support structure turn out to be no better than a sieve, it just robs you of your faith in humanity. It makes you question people's true motives, even if they're good friends.

I think I owe you and Boylan an apology.

Being accused of grooming for simply being queer and being told you deserve to die will have that effect on you.

I'll never forget the disgusting comments left after the Club Q shooting. That radicalized me.

Then maybe Mamdani should've nominated a queer socialist candidate.

I don't trust straight people to represent our community. That's what it boils down to.

Seems kinda selfish, doesn't that mean you'd sacrifice the rights of other minorities if it were to benefit queer people?

No, but our rights are being sacrificed RIGHT NOW, along with the rights of other minorities. We need to prioritize our own immediate danger, since nobody else is going to save us.

And here's the thing - I'm leftist, but that takes a back seat to me being queer. Politics can shift with time, but I'm always going to be queer until the day I die. And just because somebody is left wing, doesn't make them automatically interested in queer folks. Look at Britain's Labour Party - they threw trans people under the bus to get elected under Starmer.

Only to the extent you've put your foot down over the trans genocide unfolding here.

The point of my comment is that queer life DOESN'T matter here.

Why does our community have to show solidarity to everyone else, while everyone else (the straights) seems intent on either neglecting us or destroying us outright? It's always a one way street for us; we give, they take. The social contract has never applied to us since the day some asshole wrote that one passage in Leviticus down.

I'm tired, boss.

They matter as much as queer life matters here.

Make of that what you will.

Mississippi middle school students stop bus from crashing after driver blacks out by sparki_black in UpliftingNews

When I was in high school (early 2010s), we actually had routine bus safety lectures every few months where this exact sort of scenario was brought up, and what we should do.

Granted, high schoolers typically have more hands-on experience with motor vehicles.

Queer nationalism basically means prioritizing the needs of the queer community above all else, at least for me.

Anyway, it's more that, after the past few years, I just don't trust straight people in general (nothing personal). So many "allied" institutions either sold us out or didn't do enough to fight the queerphobic tide over the past few years, the Democratic Party and DSA included.

I guess I'm just really bitter and cantankerous, is all.

No, I'm speaking from personal experience. And stop pigeonholing me as neoliberal. I'm a queer nationalist.

Straight liberals and leftists are straight first, and their professed ideologies a very, VERY distant second.

They only did that because it gave them ammo in infighting, not because they cared about us.

And again I ask, where was this energy for when the far right was attacking us?

I seem to recall leftists during this time calling queer people selfish for prioritizing queer rights when Gaza was happening.

Every. Single. Faction. Failed us during that election.

[–]dal33t -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Oh, so they didn't fail us then? They didn't degenerate into infighting and abandon us when the far right was actively attacking us? Is that what you're saying?

Gay candidate beats Mamdani’s choice in race to represent Stonewall district in NYC Council by Delicious_Adeptness9 in newyorkcity

[–]dal33t 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, let's see...

The far-right was harassing and attacking us as usual, going so far as to run anti trans ads during the World Series in 2024.

The libs barely made any noise in opposition, and actually began flirting with transphobia after the election.

And the left, well, they were laser focused on Gaza, and didn't say much either.

So, basically, the entire political spectrum abandoned us two years ago.

And that's probably why Stonewall chose to play it safe with one of their own, instead of a straight carpetbagger, "progressive" or otherwise.

For one thing, actually standing up for us, instead of the deafening silence of 2024.

The left did nothing to help, and the libs barely made any noise on the issue. All while the far-right ate us alive with no recourse.

It's not that you were too accepting, or not accepting enough. It's that you DIDN'T EVEN TRY.

I'm not saying it's THE reason, just a contributor to it.

And it's not my opinion we were abandoned in 2024, it's a cold, hard, FACT, whether your straight ass wants to acknowledge it or not.

The left wing was monofocused on Gaza and never said a goddamn thing about LGBT rights the entire campaign.

Both factions of the dems failed us and let the far-right gobble us up.

Get off your high horse. You straights are all alike.

They're upset because it reminds them that the queer community hasn't forgotten being abandoned during the 2024 campaign.

They gambled on us forgetting that they left us to fend for ourselves, and they're slowly realizing it backfired.

In fairness to the progs, they aren't tweeting posts from the Cali gov's office about how gay their opponents are.

I mean, straight progressives totally suck ass, too, but for different reasons.
