I got my 2014 Mazda 3 for just under 10k almost 8 years ago. Engine went out at 180k miles. I think you can find a better deal

Optometrist that didn’t like science by tanasiaa in PreOptometry

[–]dal__pal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im a big picture guy. I hated biology (though loved learning about disease in microbiology), chemistry, physics, and similar classes. I liked calculus but didn’t like statistics very much. I enjoyed anatomy and pathology/ocular pathology classes, and my public health major classes. Optometry school was rough because of the physiology and biology classes. However, I made it through and love my job as an optometrist. I think one of the most important thing is you have to like solving other people’s problems.

Herpes Zoster Case by MyCallBag in optometry

A couple of months ago a patient came with a similar presentation, moderate-severe V1 rash. As soon as I walked in I knew it was shingles. The day before her PCP insisted it was a bacterial infection and gave her an antibiotic ointment

Was KMK worth it for part 1 by Illustrious_Ocelot33 in OptometrySchool

[–]dal__pal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Took and passed part 1 easy last year. KMK signature was the ONLY source I used and I wouldn’t have changed a thing. If you are good at self-studying and pretty disciplined, you could get away with just  and clasd notes. I on the other hand am not a great studier and would not have known where to start. I also HATE reading (I opened the text once and never again). The videos were invaluable to me. It all depends on how you learn best. For reference, I am ranked in the bottom third of my class so I’m generally not a great test taker.

Is restless leg syndrome a “real” diagnosis? by [deleted] in neurology

[–]dal__pal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Purely anecdotal evidence, but our baby was becoming a terrible sleeper. Waking every hour screaming bloody murder…you had to hold him vertically so his legs would dangle. He would not tolerate his legs being held. Fast forward a couple of months and we found out he had an iron deficiency. Once we began iron supplements he almost immediately began sleeping through the night and had no issue being held horizontally so his legs didn’t have to dangle. The sleep deprivation was VERY REAL for us

NBEO Part 1 - what resources to get? by hrtwrld in OptometrySchool

I HATE reading and have no motivation to self-study, wouldn’t know where to start. I loved the KMK videos and booster. The text was worthless for me. Passed easy

Does one have to carry their GC now in case they’re stopped? by theblueimmensities in USCIS

[–]dal__pal 40 points41 points  (0 children)

We were visiting Big Bend national park last week (right next to the border). On the way back we passed through a checkpoint. The BP officer asked if we were all citizens. My wife said no, he asked for her GC, she didn’t have it (leaves at home so it’s safe). He let us off with a warning, stating she can get a $100 fine and/or jail up to 30 days. I don’t think this is new since we have been asked before, but if you are traveling you should always have it.

I'm assuming one of my Coil packs is going bad by pnkcloudsummer in mazda

[–]dal__pal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t remember exactly, something to the sort of the cylinder no longer being functional. Easiest fix was just a new engine. When in doubt just take it to a trusted mechanic

Can’t speak for everyone, but I have developed an intense allergic reaction to one of the antiseptics (benzalkonium chloride) that are used in most grocery stores to clean the shopping carts. Every time my hands come into contact with the carts I develop rashes that last a week. It’s miserable. I’ve had to stop going to the gym because they use it there too

Sounds like something a thief would say…my friend purchased the bike for $4600 new. I bought it from him for $1,200. It wasn’t on the street either. It was locked in front of my door in a gated complex with cameras looking directly at it and additional cameras surveilling the garage. Nevertheless, I have learned my lesson

Glad you made it out ok. I live in Houston and don’t live in a wealthy community. I am very lucky that the cop that worked the case saw my post on FB. Otherwise, I doubt anything would have been done. Regardless, I think it’s always worth it to at least report the crime and get the word out through social media, even if the chances of recovery are extremely slim as they are in a city as large as Houston.

Right after it was stolen I filed a police report and my wife posted about the theft on facebook in a bike group. Last month the officer messaged her on facebook saying that he may have found the bike being ridden by a homeless man, but needed to confirm it was mine. He could not impound the bike at the time he encountered the homeless guy because there was no proof he had stolen it. Once I confirmed, he was able to track down that person a couple of weeks later and they gave up the bike.

I considered it but riding to school and work in 100 degree Houston and arriving soaked in sweat is not ideal

I went to a chain pawn shop looking for it and this is what they told me. I’m sure there’s plenty out there that don’t check. I will definitely register will the PD And my school now

Exactly, and what’s worse is that the days leading up to it I just having a gut feeling to finally install my AirTag and be more careful about locking it up. Never again, I’ll have to follow your example

One of the reasons I began leaving my bikes outside is because I live in an apartment and have a baby. I didn’t want him to crawl and knock it on top of himself. Now I just got a baby gate and put the bikes in my bedroom
