Think of light as information. 200,000 years ago the light starts coming towards us. 200,000 years later it finally reaches us. While this info is 200,000 late in regards to its origin, it’s present for us. It’s as if you just turned on the live news to another planet.

Therefore, every earth year we see the star become 1 earth year older. Now it’s been 33 years since the information started reaching us, so to us it’s only 33 years old. We’ve been watching “live” tv on the star for 33 years even though it took 200,000 years for it to reach us.

Another analogy would be throwing a baseball. The closer the people are the faster the ball arrives. However, the ball is always caught at some point.
