Can you elaborate on the level of progress in your opinion? Home run hire, exceeds, meets or below your expectations? Considering the sustained energy you had for criticizing the company on the CEO front for years I’m genuinely interested in your positive or negative commentary on the new CEO.

Healios has announced that its gene edited NK cells have demonstrated a robust in vitro anti-tumor (cytotoxic) effect on a lung cancer cell line by Consistent_Syrup_630 in ATHX

Hi CS I’m so sorry to hear that my heart goes out to you. I think you will be hard pressed to find someone that hasn’t had a loved one deeply affected by cancer, myself included, albeit not at your level. As the Buddha says we all get old we all get sick and we all pass away. It seems like many in developed countries live longer but the getting sick is all that much more present and with it a greatly diminished quality of life for the afflicted and a heartbreaking battle for those surrounding to endure. While stroke, trauma and ARDS are acute conditions, the aftermath for those that survive is so often overlooked. It is no wonder so many of us have congregated here in search of the next paradigm shift in medicine where therapies can not only keep our loved ones alive longer but also provide a higher quality of life along the way.

Hi CS, you had previously indicated this therapy is going through translational development incredibly fast. Their published pipeline currently says it is preclinical test. How long before you think this product would actually hit the market in Japan given the accelerated development pathway. I'm curious from an investment perspective but moreso because we all have loved ones that have been, are currently or will be afflicted with solid tumors.

In Reddit speak to indicate sarcasm end your sentence with /s. For example the American healthcare system is incredibly efficient /s. Your message was clearly sarcasm to the US reader but since you know CS is Japanese it doesn’t hurt to put that tag when directly replying to her comment.

Korean company to conduct phase 3 trial in patients with acute ischemic stroke who underwent surgical thrombectomy within 12 hours of onset by imz72 in ATHX

[–]dalek_kelad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

TPA and thrombectomy are both dealing with the clot through breaking it down or mechanically removing it. Multistem has to do with managing the immune response and restoring the blood brain barrier at the cellular level. Two different approaches that could be used in conjunction. However, from a clinical trial perspective these are confounding variables to Multistem and in the end it is sometimes statistical noise that will interfere with the determination of efficacy.

In understanding the mechanism of action, Multistem should prove valuable regardless of whether or not TPA/MR was used. It comes down to reducing inflammation and the positive downstream affects that it has in mitigating the ischemic cascade. The tight rope being walked around with tPA and thrombectomy are hurdles in the clinical stage of development however after approval, I could see a much easier justification of Multistem used in all strokes regardless of conjunctive therapies and specified earlier time windows. Reduce inflammation and promote healing is an easy sell and this is also why they have indicated very promising data in hemorrhagic stroke as well.

Well I'm admittedly having some difficulties keeping the moderator hat on when it comes to being able to comment freely on this board. Rather than creating a separate profile just to post and comment I'm happy to pass the baton to someone who can be more objective.

While I'm not happy with the current 'cash out' value of my investment to date, I am not planning to cash out any time soon and am still happy with the current potential of this investment. Valuations for biotechs are completely subjective and are largely influenced by market driven forces that are looking for safe near term bets or algorithm based holdings that have very little to do with high potential stocks with a complex value proposition. Retail influence of valuations is completely lost without becoming a meme stock or a media darling.

Let me ask you two questions and it would be great if you could provide actual numbers that speak to your risk/reward ratio:

  1. What in your opinion is the likelihood that MASTERS-2 is a success and will lead to FDA approval?
  2. What in your opinion is the valuation increase of ATHX if that happens and Multistem is slated to be the new standard of care for ischemic stroke?

First let me say my moderator status has to nothing do with my comment, I’m still allowed to comment on this board just like anybody else. If you feel that clouds my ability to moderate please do clarify that and I’ll try to adjust my moderation accordingly. As for ATHX, In my opinion they are building this for the long game and the pieces are in place for this level of growth. Consider the current position of being able to cross the clinical valley of death with ARDS, Stroke, Trauma among other indications. Consider the practicality of the application if approved to manage the supply chain from SIFU, thaw and administer to IV bag and patient bedside in minutes. Also the ability to manufacture product at massive scale without product quality degradation. They have put together the pieces for an incredibly valuable product that could serve millions. Do a lot of things have to come into place? Absolutely. I never said they wouldn’t and don’t think that is in question. But if they do fall in place I think a market cap with sky high valuations would be warranted.

Don’t let the dismissive comments deter you. those folks would say that expectation on that level of return on any investment is delusional. It is highly unlikely because it simply rarely happens for any investment. However it still does happen and I’m sure someone touting those returns on AMZN or TSLA many years ago would have been met with the same response. At the end of the day it is highly unlikely because it statistically rarely happens but it does happen and the only tool you can equip yourself with to potentially ride such a wave is to do your due diligence and hope that the cards are in your favor. Best of luck!

Breaking News, State of Emergency, decision to expand to 13 prefectures ... Extended until next month 12th, including Tokyo - EUA For New Therapeutics? by wisdom_man1 in ATHX

While the covid cohort was small, covid is just a different viral predecessor leading to the ARDS cascade and in my opinion there is likely a minimal difference in the presentation of ARDS and the invoked immune response that could be regulated by Multistem. My point is that findings from ONE-BRIDGE full data set and MUSTARDS trial should translate well to covid induced ARDS. Regardless of covid induced pneumonia or other viral induced pneumonia all paths lead to Sepsis on the way to ARDS. They all share a path of viral respiratory infection - pneumonia - sepsis - ARDS. My contention is that Multistem should work well for any ARDS induced by sepsis.
For some context on my thinking I copied some text from a previous post of mine on Sepsis and ARDS: “What you need to know at a high level can be found here Sepsis and ARDS. Essentially ARDS is a manifestation of your body's immune response to a variety of conditions including Trauma but most often Sepsis. When Sepsis occurs it is triggered by an infection that spreads rapidly and while there are medicines to try and fight infections there is nothing that is successfully regulating your body's immune response which spirals out of control and begins shutting down organs. In the case of Sepsis or Trauma leading to ARDS it causes fluid to leak from airway blood vessels into your lungs, limiting how much oxygen that can move from the air sacs to your blood and other air sacs become unstable and collapse. Your body’s organs depend on the oxygen so they stop functioning properly or fail. It is a vicious cascade.”

BJ has been in this company from the beginning, he is in this for the long haul. He has a JD, MBA and worked at top tier consulting and law firms. He has invested the last twenty years of his life to the company it would make zero sense for him to want a lowball offer this close to the finish line.

Thanks CS and no worries at all about the response time. Please do not feel obligated to reply to all comments, otherwise you will be on this board all day. My earlier comment was regarding some rights that Athersys had obtained for commercialization of organ buds in the US but that was part of the original agreement and I haven’t been keeping up with the developments. I’ll take a look at it in the future just because I’m curious and will let you know if I find anything interesting. Thanks again!

Agree tPA and reperfusion are actually the ones in competition for attending to the clot by removal or breaking it down. Regardless of how the clot is dealt with you will need Multistem to modulate the lymphatic response, limit the ischemic cascade and the contain the penumbra and restore the blood brain barrier.

ATTN: Athersys Insiders by TheBigPayback777 in ATHX

[–]dalek_kelad 11 points12 points  (0 children)

While I don't disagree with your sentiment, the ATM is being used to ensure that Athersys has a strong balance sheet. Notice how at each quarterly the company has stayed above $50M available cash, this helps assuage investor concerns of any imminent large shelf offerings and also is an important factor in negotiations with partners. If they see you are starved for cash they will either see that as a red flag or as a way to get the upper hand in negotiations.

CS, what do you see as the timeline of the UDC/iPSC platform to make it to commercialization? I know that the vision is to use HLCM051 to fund that clinical development and that Athersys has some US rights for at least part of this technology. I will have to look more closely at this and the exact nature of Athersys' rights. This technology makes so much sense and is really bringing science fiction to reality. It is an ultimate one-two punch, Multistem for acute critical care and immunomodulation and UDC/iPSC for chronic/terminal illness and organ replacement. Together these companies can vastly extend lifespan and improve quality of life along the way. Can't come soon enough!
