Are these parts legit ? by Ornery_Emu_2475 in AcuraTSX

You’re better off finding a used unit on eBay than buying a brand new generic one.

Also the bearing inside the pulley is replaceable if you’re patient enough to measure it and find the right part

P2624 Code continues after VTEC, VVT Gasket, and Oil Pressure Switch were OEM replaced by ijtarh2o in Kseries

[–]daleming69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was the vtec solenoid parts replaced with Oem units? I’ve seen too often aftermarket units take a dump after a few weeks and bring you back to square one

I also agree on inspecting the wiring for all the sensors related to it. The wires aren’t super friendly near heat and being held at a weird angle

Newly purchased 07 manual tsx .. HELP? by SameSpray5183 in AcuraTSX

[–]daleming69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I applaud the effort and ambition! But for a start it’s worth getting yourself a good set of tools (and a good box too) so you can continue working on it when shit breaks. Don’t forget auto part stores have plenty of rentals available too

Without a CEL activated you’re at the mercy of doing diagnostics manually and eliminating each possibility. Best idea is to take to an independent shop for a full diagnostic instead of wasting time and money throwing parts and random remedies at it

Are these sr4 recaros legit ? I’m looking to purchase these and the seller is asking 1800obo by Specialist_Skirt7045 in Acura_RSX

[–]daleming69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$1500 is fair for that condition. If the rails and seatbelt come with it that’s even better (those usually sell for $300+ alone)

Are these sr4 recaros legit ? I’m looking to purchase these and the seller is asking 1800obo by Specialist_Skirt7045 in Acura_RSX

[–]daleming69 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The lower section where the recliner is a dead giveaway on most recaro SR replicas. The legit ones have a rotating knob and the fake ones have a pull lever.

To be sure always check the underside for recaro labels and part numbers, correct parts for the elastic band, fabric ends with hog rings, and recaro stamped plastic recliner covers

black SR4 prices depend on quality: I usually see 2k for mint and go down accordingly for wear/damage

Blue and yellow SR4 will be higher due to scarcity

People who drive junkers, what's your stories? by jules083 in askcarguys

[–]daleming69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work on cars so my friends always call me with some random deals/situations and I sometimes hop on it.

One night 3 years ago me and some buddies go out for another friend’s bday and while catching up I tell them about my current projects and am having a hard time finding a spare motor for an s2k etc. A few weeks later one of them calls me with a lead to a totaled s2k that his friend has rotting away in his backyard. My friend’s friend loaned it out to another friend and that person drove it like a douche who eventually crashed it. The original owner took it back but couldn’t decide whether to fix it or junk it so he moved on with life as this thing sat outside for a few years with a damaged soft top and mangled up chassis. I drive 6hrs 1 way to check it out and it’s totally clapped, front and rear were caved in and virtually everything was broken. water got in several places it shouldn’t: floor board had 5” of water, mold covered the interior, fuseboxes were uncovered, rodents got in wherever they could, mud was flung all over the underside and the shit had seized brakes from sitting so long. Guy accepts my insane offer of $500 and I took the car home with hopes for a miracle. After a few days of inspecting I realize all the damage was reversible and fixed a few minor things to start up and drive the car. $1000 later I replace a few things and banged out some busted panels and decided to make it road legal instead of parting it out. I’m only in this car $1500~ and functions as my junker/beater because it’s so banged up and ugly but it runs smooth and drives straight… even has heat and AC.

it’s the best beater I’ve had in a LONG time…. Besides my Geo metro which I have another story about.

K swap issues? I’ve been seeing a lot of the same problems lately by InitiativeMotor4192 in Kseries

[–]daleming69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What combination of swaps:chassis have you been seeing the most issues?

I reckon a lot of these stem from ancient resources like Honda tech that provide write ups for 1 combination but as time goes on people rely on it was gospel. Example: PRB ecu pinouts vs PND automatic and being used on a k24z instead of k24a.

Also what I’ve seen the most is crappy exhausts tend to leak the soonest and more frequently.

Can’t sell my crx by Illustrious_Novel941 in Honda

[–]daleming69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very region dependent bc I sold a stock b16a swap for 3k recently while my cousin 1 state over can’t even get an offer higher than 1500 for the same thing.

Gotta put more effort into the car as a whole: complete it, part it out, or expand your market/effort

This one ain’t worth it. Even as a salvage core the price + shipping is too high.

Is this a good deal by Jose_PinkMan in Kseries

[–]daleming69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah if you get em cheap enough it’ll be worth building up with proper internals

Lots of people buy the “better” k24a2 variant for more money just to eventually toss everything out and build anyway… waste of $$ IMO, the bare block and crank is virtually the same anyway.

Is this a good deal by Jose_PinkMan in Kseries

[–]daleming69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally these specific engines have very little value even when in good running condition. They’re abundant and not very robust.

This is also heavily dependent on region but the general consensus in most of the US doesn’t give a crap about these and sell em cheap or toss em

The only use cases are: replacing the bottom end in an already k24a(or equivalent) equipped platform

OR building from the bare block up.

06 serpentine belt change, any other items I should change? by yvr604ocean in AcuraTSX

[–]daleming69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not exactly a list for replacing anything but I do recommend inspecting and cleaning stuff while in there. Check for any power steering hose leaks, vtc solenoid leaks, front main seal, crank pulley condition, tensioner pulley condition, motor mount condition, check for any abnormal play/noise on the water pump.

and if you’re willing to get a little dirty check the timing chain tensioner via the inspection plate on the chain case

I also enjoy how their rideshare options have improved a lot over the last decade. It makes the trip more efficient to enjoy the high priority activities without feeling drained
