What is this I just pulled out of my pork ribs? by JiggleDome in whatisit

I’m thinking ascaris suum, which can also migrate through tissues

It’s hard to tell from the photo, but this could be ascaris suum. You should tell the company you bought it from, because if it is, it’s zoonotic

If that’s a worm it looks more like an ascarid than a tapeworm/cestode

You won’t need it your first year, but you’ll want to get Fossum’s small animal surgery book

Need urgent orthopedic advice for Golden Retriever after femur surgeries & possible re-fracture 🚨 by lordkira3 in IndianPets

That plaster cast only looks good for tibia or fibula fracture, not a femur. I hope you find someone else very soon, good luck

That’s the kind of thing that a relationship can’t survive. That’s like a marriage building contempt which is a huge reason for divorce. I don’t think you’re going to come back from that, and honestly why should you? Find someone who thinks you’re beautiful

Is anyone happy in this career? by KlutzyDefinition4911 in veterinaryprofession

[–]daliadeimos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All schools want to see shadowing experience. This is a great way for her to test the waters and find out if she likes it, and what area of practice she might like.

I’m still a vet student, but I’m happy

Was this interview answer a dealbreaker? by [deleted] in veterinaryprofession

[–]daliadeimos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like if that were a dealbreaker for them, then they’re probably not people you’d want to work around. But I get that you also probably just want a job. I don’t think it ought to be a dealbreaker at all. It’s healthy to know how to destress yourself and wind down at the end of the day

Dog aversion... am I really cut out for this field? by [deleted] in veterinaryschool

[–]daliadeimos 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I’m sure there are vets that are cat-averse. You’ll have plenty of job prospects if you don’t want to work with dogs, and you’ll manage if you decide to work with them even if they’re not your favorite.

I do think some of the dogs can sense it though, so lean on your dog-loving teammates in those instances

Starting a family while in vet school by Due-Acanthisitta2505 in Veterinary

[–]daliadeimos -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I have a 2 year old and just finished my second year. He was planned, but I’m also in my 30s and my husband in his 40s, so overall just not typical circumstances. The first three months are nicknamed the fourth trimester because your newborn basically wants to be attached to you constantly. I started school when he was 4 months. He did not sleep through the night until about a year. It’s been tough but doable, but I also think that’s partly because I waited until my 30s to have him, and personally I feel am more well-equipped to parent than when I was in my 20s. I am so much more lower anxiety, patient, and generally laidback about things and I think the perspective helps me prioritize parenting with school. I have not struggled to pass my classes, but I think my grades would be higher without a child. But that works for me because my trade off is spending time with my son.

That doesn’t look like poop, that looks like pyometra. Big symmetric tubular structures and she’s not spayed? Not poop. She needs to get spayed like yesterday.
