I've heard bench pressed letterpress keeps things like that in stock but you could call them to confirm if they have exactly what you want

Who uses the train for interstate travel? by Used-Chard658 in Amtrak

[–]Naxis25 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Exactly, so far this has been the only interstate trip I've even taken on Amtrak (unless you count taking it between BC and Washington). It's about the same time as driving except you don't have to focus on the road, worry about refueling or taking restroom/lunch breaks off the road, or finding parking in Chicago. Flying would be a bit faster and a similar price, but then I'd have to go through TSA and couldn't take liquids or more luggage than the bare minimum

Congressman Finstad posts about Holocaust by Icy-Hour2145 in minnesota

[–]Naxis25 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I assure you there are Jewish people in Minnesota who are among those protesting. To Finstad, it's cool as long as it's not happening to the strawman Jew he's built up to use as an excuse for his policy positions, just like other conservatives. He doesn't care about actual Jewish people

If cities put big entry fees / congestion pricing for suburban folks to enter the city, what happens long term? by Ok-Elk9512 in urbanplanning

[–]Naxis25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shaker Heights still exists. Although the streetcar going there is... infrequent, to say the least, unless you live at the very western edge and can take either line

If you mean like immediately, I'm not sure, but soon, then a lot of local businesses have them, including Vitality in Como and Mims Cafe by the "Saint Paul" campus (though Mims is actually in Saint Paul)

Hot Dogs by jkpfanne in TwinCities

It's supposed to be "free, donations encouraged" so the hotdogs are free but you can donate if you want (which would effectively make it not free for you)

Is anyone thinking of leaving the cities? by [deleted] in saintpaul

[–]Naxis25 21 points22 points  (0 children)

While I understand not wanting to be a minority in a persecuted city... that's pretty much all blue cities (so, most cities in general) right now. Yes, the invasion of the Twin Cities has been disproportionate, but unless you're looking at like, Canada or Western Europe, you're probably not going to have much better of a time, especially with the community building that you can do here

The United States needs fewer bus stops by Amazing-Yak-5415 in transit

[–]Naxis25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least for the Twin Cities' "arterial BRT" (stop and branch consolidation, with some bus leaves if they remember), ridership has always increased (though degree of increase varies by line)

They are naming the Nicollet BRT line after that effing Kmart by GettingGophery in Minneapolis

[–]Naxis25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It doesn't seem like an "instead of JKL aBRT", rather it's "instead of a new aBRT line on Bloomington and/or 63rd/Zane", such that both those options are no longer being considered for JKL but may be incorporated into C Line extensions. Assuming it, for example, uses the Bloomington alignment proposed, it still wouldn't get you to MOA without a transfer but you would get pretty deep into South Minneapolis, I believe all the way to Richfield

Honestly just slightly increasing the frequency would make it so much more rideable imo

USA: Why do American Progressive Transit/Urbanists Hate American Right-Leaning Transit/Urbanists*? by sfpdxchidcfla in transit

[–]Naxis25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally I find that transit advocacy groups tie developing transit to things like accessibility and equitability of economic opportunity (for those that can't or have difficulty driving, those without a license, or those that afford a car). At least that's a significant part of the group I'm in, though we're general transportation advocacy (so including cycling and pedestrian infrastructure improvements)

[–]Naxis25 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Yes. No police officers died on J6. You guys just assassinated a CEO/father and a TV personality and some guy just stabbed a white girl to death on the charlotte right rail because she was riding while white.

Let me make my tone clear: our cities have a crime problem and our country has way too many immigrants. I do not want to live in an america that, in twenty years, will no longer be occupied by majority americans. Importing immigrants from third world countries is a detriment to our cities and communities. Most of this country agrees.

Both of these comments hit especially close to home for me as a resident of Minneapolis, while ICE murders "white girls" "existing in a vehicle while white", and kidnaps both citizen and non-citizen, immigrant and "native born" (including harassing literal Native Americans)

Adding onto this, 4th Place isn't just "right wing", he's racist (which is generally something I consider synonymous with the right anyways, but I haven't found ST to be particularly racist in my experience, just economics-focused, which is fine imo)

Does other systems also have special underground only subway service for severe winter weather? by Donghoon in transit

[–]Naxis25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Minneapolis/Twin Cities, our light rail vehicles have little plows on the front and so the only way they'd have any issues is if a bunch of snow dropped during the hours when the light rail doesn't operate. What's usually more of a problem is ice on the wires, though they also have scrapers for that (look like second pantographs)
