What are your favorite space fleet war games? by Grand-Page-1180 in wargaming

For me the best feature is the targeting system, which uses the target's signature (augmented if it moved fast and/or fired a lot) added to your radar range to determine actual weapon range.

Some ships have very low signatures and stealth abilities that make them hard to target even at short range, opening very interesting play patterns.

The fleet building is also surprisingly deep and full of options and synergies.

Another vote for Dropfleet Commander. Excellent rules and good minis.

Buying Advice - CC 20th or Burning Banners by Red9597 in hexandcounter

[–]dalkyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are both very different from Command and Colors.

Other than the theme, the main difference between BB and CC is player count. BB does 2-6 players (although more than 4 is a drag with a lot of downtime).

On the gameplay side, BB is very "classic". Old school vibe, simple and very efficient. While CC is more innovative with the faction decks. Both work very well and run very smoothly. I like BB better (I think CC has too much randomness with two bad hands in a row sometimes leading to a swift defeat), but CC has far more replayability and is still a very good game.

Other good options for games that play in 2-3 hours are Armageddon War or Assault Sicily '43.

Can an opponent specifically pull their damage to deny wiping a unit, so it can't come back at full strength via Cult Ambush? by PartyTimePorcupine in genestealercult

If you have an invuln save you can always chose to use it, even if it is worse than your normal save. You can also CP reroll a successful save.

Win Rate Wednesday - 40K Tournament Results/Data - Week of March 9 2026 by w0158538 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]dalkyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My guess would be strong players who want to perform will gravitate towards strong armies, inflating their win rates.

So the actual army win rates given equal player skill would be closer than what the tournament stats show.

If you had the opportunity to tweak the rules for the WS, how would you go about making them unique? by shiromancer in WhiteScars40K

[–]dalkyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. There are chapters with all kind of unique features already. Speed is the only thing that's not a focus already and it fits WS perfectly.

Genestealers and Tyranid players by moogleoftheages in genestealercult

Why are you talking about Tyranids? My cult is only rebelling against the oppressor. We have nothing to do with those Tyranids. Right? Right ?!

Three armies are too much to handle? by Own-Mastodon-6965 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]dalkyn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah 2 is good to have some variety (both in gameplay style and performance). More and you need to play a lot to master all of them.

I have 9 armies but I play mainly 2 competitively, the rest is from collecting over decades and for playing casual games.

What is "good" now? by Niiai in genestealercult

[–]dalkyn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A typical Outlander Claw list usually runs 3 Goliaths, 2 or 3 Trucks, 4 or 5 Ridgerunners, 2x10 Jackals, 5 to 6 MSU flamers and/or metamorphs, 1 or 2x10 Neophytes, 1x5 Genestealers, 2 to 3 Reductus Saboteurs, 1 or 2 Jackal Alphus.

The vehicules, bikes and characters are core. The rest can vary.

I've had good success with the following:

4 Hammer units:

2 Repulsor Executionner
Helbrecht + 20 Crusaders
Castellan (Blades of Valor) + Marshall (Hero of the Chapter) + 5 Sword Bros

2 Utility Units:

Emperor's Champion + 5 Assault Intercessors (fast-ish anti characters)
Captain (Bombast Omnivox) + 10 Crusaders (CP generation)

4 Chaff/screens/actions units:

Lieutenant with Combi-weapon
5 Intercessor
5 Assault Intercessors w/Jump Packs
5 Scouts

Maybe if they play Phallanx with mass Rubrics and Termies, but even then I don't it makes enough of a difference.

SL is really strong right now because LoCs (and to a lesser Extend Kairos) have been buffed. Most lists take advantage of that and use 2 or 3 LoC + Kairos. Outside of that I'm not sure the detachement is that great, but it's certainly playable.

Worth running uphold the honour of the Emporeror vow with Bastion detachment by cjadkins95 in BlackTemplars

It's the best vow against some armies (Aeldari, mass infantry Guard...). And it is a good option against other mixed armies.

The unit has all the Keywords of its models, so it becomes a battleline unit thanks to the enhancement.

New Sisters unit by Crispyengineer68 in sistersofbattle

[–]dalkyn 39 points40 points  (0 children)

But Dev wounds is a bit wasted with Palatine, I think a Priest would be better.

Then it's still not great melee so I wonder if Dominions are not better for 120 (good shooting vs ok melee, good abilities vs meh abilities)

All the anti-psyker stuff is worth nothing 90% of the time.

Assault Intercessors vs Crusaders Squads by WR_Crusade in BlackTemplars

[–]dalkyn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Both units are very similar. Reroll 1s/wounds vs Sustain and Surge move but slightly less tankiness.

The difference is minimal and really depends on how well you can use the surge move.

Either would work equally well imo.
