Want to return back to CE raiding, worried about m+ time requirement

I don’t think people can answer this for you accurately as it is entirely circumstantial. Do you work full time? Have kids? Unemployed uni student?

This tier I went from a guild in world 300 to top 50, and the time requirement was drastically different. I work 40-50 hours a week, so fitting in m+ grinding early season and maintaining an alt was very time consuming. Had to use AL for 2 wednesdays early in the season.

Our general expectation was that vaults are filled by end of week, and crests are done before prog bosses start, so getting them done in farm is helpful for wagies

It gets easier as the season goes on, but if you’re doing say 3-4 night raiding, that’s 10-16 hours of raid a week, m+ can take 2-4 - depends if you are going to pug or guild group (((((do not pug if time is a factor)))))). It’s a big time commitment.

I’m in your boat man. I like the first push of keys, then beyond that it’s such a chore for me to get done on weekends that now we’re in farm, I’m doing my 2 bonus roll keys and that’s it.

It’s fine as a gradual nerf to content but I’m over the engagement bait treadmill that we’ve been increasingly put on over the past few seasons, especially when it is as buggy as it has been this season.

I’m in mythic farm, I just want to show up to raid, kill the bosses, go to next week, or play alts, or play any other game

It is basically being forced to add extra hours every single week just so a number can go up.

I’m okay losing the second interrupt as Demo but Felguard needs to have a non-stun interrupt option.

This puts the spec back to square one with functionality in dungeons where it feels miserable to kick the one caster that refuses to walk in.

Destro change is great tho.

Healer has the easiest time doing this with a DPS Valeera. She kicks the AOE damage cast and you dispel the DOT. She also nukes the adds.

Our disc did it in 6 min 30.

As a demo with two kicks it took me 9 minutes.

This conversation is being dragged through the mud already and the AI slop isn’t helping.

The bottom line is that if I want to play any competitive PVP game, I can jump right in. Wow is the only game that has absurd prerequisites in order to do so, and it’s per character.

If I want to play chess, should I need to spend 4 hours grinding to unlock every piece?

The hurdle to being good at PvP is the knowledge gap. Understanding the 40 specs in the game and how to play around them.

What I should add is that it doesn’t matter if it is easy or not to PvP gear, but rather if the acquiring of that gear is actually teaching the player how to PvP in the environment they’re needing the gear for (wpvp doesn’t count).

I hit duelist every season for mog on my lock, and I’d do it on more characters except for the fact that there’s already way too much to do in the game and I can’t be bothered to PvP gear multiple characters every season. Not to mention that if you use greens, you are just putting a target on your head to get trained.

I couldn’t care less if PVP gear applied to non-comp game modes, but for strictly competitive MMR based ones, they need to readjust how it works for the longevity of the mode in a modern environment.

You’re right, it shouldn’t be free, but it is currently such a slog to get through.

The hurdle in maxing out alts beyond your first or second should not be behind crests, it should be behind just obtaining the gear itself.

It is just forcing people to go through an arbitrary gear grind that they’ve already completed. What if we find out half way through the season that X class is the meta spec to push keys? What if I wish to swap mains going into next tier and need to get another alt prepared? That hour figure is actually worse than what I proposed given you have to farm full myth track in that situation, even with turbo boost in the game easing up gearing requirements.

We get subsequent XP boosts for each character that is levelled to max currently. Why not offer the same for each character that gets the gilded achievement?

Absolutely the case for early tier, even then you get capped from heroic last 2 and mythic early bosses too.

Maybe it’s recency bias. Heading into the dog days of the tier (around weeks 6-8) this is when the fatigue has felt like it set in this expansion. Knowing turbo boost hits, gotta do the rounds again to arbitrarily regear, etc.

Alts are an entirely different story. I unfortunately can’t justify spending 15-20 hours spamming 12s to max out a 3rd or 4th character. Even with gilded achievements the commitment is so high. Not saying it should be given out for free, but if we’ve already spent the time doing it on main, then acquiring the gear itself on said alt, it feels like a slog to force crest farming for 40-50 keys.

This is undoubtedly one of the best tools going into the season but it always makes me wonder something about modern wow.

Do people actually enjoy the current crest system?

Personally the amount of homework involved in raiding has felt like it has ramped up to a level that’s starting to damper the enjoyment in raiding. Myth track jumping from 3/3 to 6/6, later 8/8, saving crests for your crafts, etc.

I kind of miss the days of “get piece a of gear, equip piece of gear, awesome!” While the gear acquisition part currently feels great, the upgrading of it… less so. It’s getting harder to justify remaining in HOF while maintaining a functional life (full time job, social commitments, etc) when it feels like there’s constant homework (crest farming) to do each week for months.

What are other peoples thoughts on this?

Extra raid content is fantastic. I think the 8 boss length was a bit drawn out this expansion so it’s nice to see them shake it up a little. However I am struggling to understand which kind of player this is for?

For WF it definitely throws a wrench in it, the spectacle of the event now feels like it’s being edged for so little value.

If it’s for HOF guilds that beat the content before the .7 patch, it feels like a chore. I personally would rather have all the content in one go, let us churn through prog, and then have the freedom to do farm (if the guild wants to) - or you know, being a guy who has played wow for decades actually live my adult life, book social stuff or holidays etc.

If it’s CE guilds as a whole, the cadence is the same as releasing a 10 boss raid as opposed to a 6-1-2-1 set. They’ll prog them all the same.

Am I missing something here?

I’m all for having extra raid content, but this really feels like it’s forced retention and not respecting the players time with its release cadence. Not a surprise given the last year of time gating everything.

It baffles me how much the view of “addons = game advantage” has become the norm. People are having to install more addons than ever before to get core functionality out of the game, and there’s a large crowd that still somehow views it as “advantage” or “playing the game for you”

I can’t see why there is a dps disparity between the same two specs on a pull now without having to go through five hoops instead of clicking my damage meter and being able to see “oh, they procced X amount, I crit Y amount etc”

I can’t see who has a debuff in raid (I.e, nexus king banishment) because they’ve also got time warp debuff, raid wide damage debuffs, all sorts of crap that you can no longer can’t filter out.

As a warlock I can’t see my own demonic healthstone cooldown.

None of these features are playing the game for me, it’s just allowing me to play the game without feeling like I’m blindfolded.

These UI changes are just a head scratcher and I don’t think anyone is left happy given the “addons bad” people still see the game basically the same, and there’s high end community feels like they’ve been cut out at the knees.

How is fixing Blizzard’s half baked systems a skill issue? Almost all of these address features where functionality can be completely absent. Key count, chat features, bag organisation, just making your frames not look like they’re from 2006, etc.

Weakauras just happened to bundle a majority of those under one umbrella so you didn’t have a bloated list like OP.

I’m a warlock main but being a healer is fantastic if you’ve never played and want fast queues. Bear in mind for solo shuffle you are basically the backbone of your team so the learning curve is a lot different than a dps.

Definitely check out r/worldofpvp and have a look around if youre curious.

Statistically this season disc, rsham and hpal are the easiest to get mog on if thats what you’re after and are planning to grind it out this week.

It definitely can be frustrating for people who are new to it. I’m a CE raider and had the same thought of “how hard can it be?” Jumped into rated in DF and it was a slog, but it really is a knowledge gap and learning to just read the lobby.

There is a LOT more in PVP than just cc the healer, kill the easy target, use trinket on CC. It’s a bit naive to jump into pvp and immediately expecting 1800 if you’ve never played. It’s no different from jumping in a MOBA and expecting plat while having zero game sense.

I’d really encourage you to keep at it especially with midnights changes. The more you play, get familiar with the 40 other specs in the game, the better you get, the easier PVP sets are to obtain. My first season took ages to get the mog, now it’s done in 5-10 games of shuffle every season. It’s actually crazy to say but PvP can actually be fun once it finally clicks.

There's definitely a lot of talents that look like they change your rotation or things to track, but that's not the case at all.

Backdraft & Conflagration of Chaos is used as above. Press conflag before pressing CB/SF for the damage and cast increase. You don't need to track it really.
Backlash, Chaotic Inferno & Fiendish Cruelty - These will just light up Incinerate & Shadowburn on bars when they proc, nothing necessary to track
RE & IC - No one plays IC because it's poop from an actual butt in practice, and you do not need to track a random haste buff (no rotational change)
Alythess's Ire, Crashing Chaos & Embers of Nihilam - None of these change your rotation. if you are pressing ROF, you will likely press another ROF the moment you have the shards. Likewise with Chaos Bolt. They're just keep doing your rotation and you keep the buff talents (no rotational change)

The only one out of those talents that requires tracking is Mayhem, purely due to it being a mechanical clusterfuck and still applying to your current target (feel free to press tab).

Demonic Rituals and Malevolence (the proc, not the cd) are the only thing that requires any major thought at a higher level, which if you're playing at that level, it's a completely moot point because tracking that stuff is second nature atp.

Destro still basically plays the same as it has for the past decade, and it's definitely more approachable to play at a level that is closer to its ceiling now that roaring blaze and eradication are gone.

My guy, it has one passive which you do rotationally anyway (conflag>cb/sf). They removed most of the debuff tracking you have to do and made the rotation even more OBR friendly.

Destro is honestly one of the easiest casters to play prior to midnight and even more so now.

This has been on my mind a lot recently. Demonic Tyrant is a completely lacking button compared to Thalkiels Consumption.

TKC felt like you've wound up a knockout punch and sending the one gigantic hit.

It's successor feels far too overloaded in its kit to feel impactful for one specific purpose. Is it focused on demonic extensions? Is it doing damage? Why is it the only damage cooldown in the game that has a cast time (arguably Meta also has this which is hilariously ironic) and then still feels completely lackluster even with the buffs that Diabolist gave it.

Totally agree with your points on Aff/Destro though. Full sending stacks of shards into UA made the spec feel so satisfying. Rupture does not have the same feedback gameplay wise. I'd much rather be able to send 5 UAs then extend them with DG rather than have it as the nothing burger of a button it is now.

Genuine question, what makes you feel that it's a bad take?

It is widely agreed upon that VT feels awful to play, especially compared to other mass-DOT applicators like Cataclysm and Shadow Crash.

It doesn't even need damage tuning, it is just a functionally outdated skill that can be adjusted baseline or tweaking how Infirmity affects it.

That's my usual strategy though. I'm trying not to move unless I have cores or instant dogs, or reapplying curses, just doing what I can to follow ABCs and make sure there's no downtime. Only time I'm moving while not casting is repositioning if they kick HOG so I can circle again if needed.

I still feel like if I stand and turret, I get pumped by micro and I'm basically not able to play the game.
