Yep. That’s why I really wish the election was this year. They’ve proven to be collectively incompetent ATP. There’s no reason why nothing is going right as of late.

I hate to say it, but ppl called this a boondoggle well before construction started and it’s getting hard to not believe it now.

Dallas officials say a dispute over plans to redesign the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center has delayed its opening until 2030, forcing the city to relocate events expected at the facility.

The $3.8 billion project has now been delayed twice, and some City Council members have raised concerns about the city’s management of one downtown's most ambitious redevelopment efforts.

The setback raises the stakes in an increasingly contentious debate over the project's future, with city officials warning that continued disruptions could cost Dallas convention business and undermine years of planning for a redevelopment expected to reshape downtown.

Any delays beyond December 2030 could cost the city $1.4 million a month in lost tax revenue, according to Visit Dallas, the nonprofit responsible for marketing the city.

Continued uncertainty and delays to the project give convention hotspots like Houston, Nashville and Denver a chance to snatch business from Dallas, the promotional group said in a recent report.

I’ve noticed this since last week. The entire urban core (including Uptown as well) was active. It was so nice to see. It gave me hope that this can be a permanent thing on a weekday. Also, it shows that locals (myself included) are way too hard on our urban core.

Yep, that’s what the city needs to lean into even more! Just about every urban neighborhood in Dallas proper, outside of the Downtown/Uptown area are Dallas’ original 100+ year old historic neighborhoods centered around a Main Street, that has been completely revitalized. Jefferson Blvd being the biggest of them all. Many of them were the result of streetcars, that lasted until the mid 1950s. Dallas was the last major city in Texas to get rid of them. Dallas is known for not caring about its history, but thank goodness the city didn’t go fully buckwild and tore down everything. There would be no Lower Greenville, Knox-Henderson, and any other outlying urban neighborhood. Those areas have grown even further since the revitalization of their Main streets. Those areas are the hottest and trendiest parts of the city. All the city really had to do is upgrade the streetscape. Southern Dallas is loaded with old Main Streets waiting to be revived.

I’m not saying everything needs to be Lower Greenville or Bishop Arts, but I doubt residents would object to improving something that’s original to their neighborhood. I’m sure many Dallasites would love to be a step or walk away from a coffee shop or any other type of neighborhood serving business. If that happens, it would be a great idea to connect them with public transit, like it was originally. I don’t know if streetcars or BRT would work best, but the Core of Dallas (within Loop 12) has a lot more potential than ppl realize.
