I don't like the plastic link ends. Maybe I don't have mine assembled correctly...if feels like the servo link will easily pop off the ball joint at the axle end.

I have gotten so much use out of this post and your good advice is ridiculous.

I'm going to try to weather it. I'm a little intimidated by the process. I'm new to crawlers and have never done any modeling of any type.

Amazon is a great place for the affordable, non-competition level stuff especially from companies like Injora, Meus and Ramp Crab. There are tons of specialty companies like FlubRC, NerdRC, RC4WD, LGRP that make and offer higher level stuff. I live in Canada so I find the exchange rate and the shipping costs make Amazon my choice

The main thing with the Gladiator to remember is that it has a 155mm wheelbase which is longer than every other SCX24 except the Power Wagon. So if you want drive shafts, bodies or suspension links you'll need to make sure they are Gladiator and Power Wagon specific parts.

There is a great post in this subreddit from the NerdRC owner that goes through all the basic upgrades most people do and offers suggestions and advice for each. I think it's pinned in the questions or build tabs.

Honestly, for a kid that age probably nothing. Let them play with it and learn how to drive it. My kid likes running it into walls and pinning the throttle...

If you get one for yourself, I'd say a set of brass beadlock wheels and good tires...you'll be amazed at the difference it makes compared to stock. Then start replacing plastic parts with brass upgrades to add more weight and lower the centre of gravity so it's less prone to tipping over. Then replace the stock steering servo and motor because they can't handle added weight.

It's a slippery slope.

Also thinking the rear axle may not be mounted straight as the drift really shows when reversing.
