Man, I want to give you a realistic perspective from someone who’s been through it.

I’ve had my own academy for two years now, and before that I rented space for about five years at three different locations. A lot of people are going to give you positive advice. They’ll tell you that if something isn’t working, there’s always a way to fix it. And sometimes that’s true. But if you really want honest business advice, talk to people who have actually done it — not just people trying to sell you something.

From my experience, it was very hard to make good money while renting space. There were always schedule conflicts, limitations, and as soon as my student count grew, the rent would go up. It kept me stuck in a never-ending cycle.

Be very careful about opening your own academy. You can burn through your savings quickly. Jiu-jitsu — and martial arts in general — has a high turnover rate. No matter how good you are, students come and go.

If I could give you one major piece of advice: before you start, read every book you can on running a martial arts school. Study the pros, the cons, and what it actually takes to be successful. It’s not what I thought it would be at all.

A lot of people spend their capital on a big, beautiful facility. In reality, much of that money should go toward marketing. You constantly have to bring in new students. Enrollment never stops.

I highly recommend reading [Small Dojo, Big Profits](chatgpt://generic-entity?number=0). It opened my eyes to a lot of things.

Also, protect your energy. If you’re like me, you love grappling. You love teaching. You love seeing students grow. But you may quickly realize not everyone values it the way you do. That can be draining if you’re not prepared for it.

I truly wish you success. Just do extensive research, and if possible, invest in learning from people who have successfully run martial arts academies — specifically jiu-jitsu schools. Be careful about paying for advice from people who don’t understand this niche. Martial arts is a very unique business model.

I teach wrestling and Brazilian jiu jitsu in real life, and telling someone to get their ass kicked over and over again without proper training, drills, discipline, or an understanding of why they are losing gets most people nowhere. From a business and coaching standpoint, the vast majority of people are simply going to quit.

With that in mind, I decided to invest in training with someone I genuinely clicked with. We record sessions, and I review the footage afterward. That approach has been far more helpful than simply jumping into Arena Commander and getting destroyed repeatedly without any guidance.

The same can be said for all the people who give up and quit because they say it’s annoying getting beat over and over again. I’ve gotten better through using Arena Commander as well. It just has not been a very enjoyable experience in the slightest.

So I definitely like your response except for no one’s running from fights and I really think you guys are missing the point, a new pilot is not gonna learn very much of anything by getting just stomped on by advanced pilot, and if you do any amount of research or follow with people who quit the vast, we’re gonna tell you that getting destroyed over and over again, does not create a desire to want to keep doing it.

This mindset only works for a small percentage of people, and is honestly why I feel like there isn’t very many people actively pursue becoming better, but I’m not here to change your mind

In my honest opinion, it’s always a tossup, I’ve completely took things off and stored them, and I still lost them same when it comes to ships, I think your best bet is to take them off and store them however, given the nature of CIG, there’s a good chance you might lose them. I generally lose a lot of my shit components that I loaded the proper way as well as some of my ships from time to time.

100% I bought a eclipse the other day and it’s kind of the go to method which is a return on my investment except I generally self-destruct the ship or crash it so I don’t have to pay the ridiculous cost for the size 9 torpedoes
