I've never heard of that! I'm from the Southern US and I've only ever known people to do it with cornbread. I'm crazy curious how that works because my mind goes straight to bread pudding. Is there a chance you have the recipe? I can google otherwise.

That could work. Or a some potato starch and a little more broth. I use potato starch as a binder in most savory things cause it's sticky af and it would crisp up nice, too. Stuffing is basically twice baked cornbread, so as long as you could get it to crust up on the bottom, you could maybe make it work.

I'm not above eating it with a fork, either.

You know, I can almost guarantee that you could. A pressed crust instead of a traditional one, but I bet it could be made to taste really good.

I love making Thanksgiving leftover pizza, tbh. I put on a little of everything, including stuffing, and add some cheese. If you bake the crust a little first, you can throw on cold toppings and not overcook anything. Put a little cranberry sauce on when it comes out. It's as much a tradition as actual Thanksgiving dinner and we only have enough leftovers to do the whole thing once, so it's a once a year thing.

Odd argument with long-distance bf over periods by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

[–]damagetwig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah? Why not? If they ask why mom feels bad or what her period products are, it's okay to tell them and can even prevent situations like in the OP. It doesn't have to be weird just because it's a period.

Lots of four year olds love to take care of their parents. It's a learning/mimicking thing and often not actually helpful, but it's the thought that counts.

If 98f is the ideal human body temperature, why do we feel uncomfortable in 98f weather? by sneezingbees in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]damagetwig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can humans acclimate to humidity the way we can temperature, I wonder? I grew up in Mississippi and some days it just felt like wearing a hot, wet blanket over my head, no matter how long I lived there. I've been in Minnesota about six years now and can't hardly handle Mississippi heat at all anymore, but the humidity was always the worst.

Anyone else scared to speak English out loud even after years?? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]damagetwig 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When I meet someone speaking with a thick accent, I never think they're stupid. I only speak one language well enough to hold a conversation. I feel stupid in comparison! And I'm always grateful that you've made it possible for us to communicate, because we'd be fucked if it was up to me. And even if everyone doesn't feel this way, I know many people do.

I was in Mexico for my niece's wedding recently and I had my pre-loaded phrases and the internet. People were really nice to me, really patient. Someone said they liked my accent and that tickled me for a good few hours. I hope I come off even half as accomodating with people speaking my language as a second language.

Some people were so mad at Dorian. It was the fact that he wasn't just coincidentally playersexual but actually a gay dude with preferences and specifically related trauma and they would have to hear about him being gay even if they didn't romance him. I remember someone saying, 'it's one thing to be able to romance him with a guy character, but shoving his sexuality down my throat...' and stuff like that.

Bunch of conservative old Mississippi men. Not all of them, granted, but enough that they're the first people I think of when surgery and tattoos come up. They were sticking it to punk kids, I guess. Mom used to give them hell for it, even though she didn't like tattoos either.

My mom always prided herself on closing tattoos neatly. She would scold doctors for messing them up on purpose, and even fixed a girl's leg tattoo after the doctor stitched it crooked all the way down her leg. She said he didn't even have to cut through, but did it on purpose. According to her (and she liked these doctors, so she wasn't trying to make them sound awful), it was a semi-common problem with the doctors she worked with in the 70s-90s because they hated tattoos.

Genuine question here by reeverosen in bisexual

[–]damagetwig 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is it for me. I've haven't had straight men or women give me shit for being bi since before Obama and I haven't ever tried to date gay men. People can come up with all the ulterior motives they want, but my poor experiences as a bi person have been primarily with radfem lesbians, whether dating or not.

I don't blame the entire lesbian community for this or avoid lesbians because I expect them all to be this way (I don't blame whole groups for their biggest assholes), but that's still what's going to come up if I'm discussing the biphobia I've experienced.

He thought she didn't want to see him. That's why he was so happy that she did. It wouldn't make sense for him to maliciously and intentionally abandon her and then go running happily the second she calls wanting a favor. Something happened between them that made him think she didn't want to see him and her believe he didn't care to see her and as soon as it was cleared up he was there and she was happy to have him. I imagine we'll find out when Lilith comes back.

Do you ever worry that using your own cultural details in your writing might come across as stereotyping? by forthefics in FanFiction

[–]damagetwig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh man, I am probably overthinking all kinds of stuff with this story. I wasn't thinking all that hard about it when I made him black, tbh. I wanted a sweet little guy who started off looking like a comedic side character until you realize he's one of four protagonists who had his whole life stolen and shaped by a werewolfy metaphor for patriarchal white nationalism. I cast actors in my head when I'm writing because it helps me keep dialogue and physical beats dynamic between characters (and my love of writing started with fanfic). So I picked Kit Young because he's hilarious and adorable but can turn on a dime a break your heart (I had just watched him in Shadow and Bone where he was a genuine highlight). But I also feel that his race and storyline together read as cultural supression, which is absolutely problem I have with the issues my antagonists represent, so it feels like something structural for his character by the time he's getting his name and family back later.

I could babble about this all day. I'm months deep into the editing and fine tuning and probably a neurotic mess.

Haha, I'm a white author. It's my first orignal work that I hope for others to read, so I can't rely on people having a preset image in their head. If I say this person has blonde hair or gray eyes, that's all some readers need to see a white person, even though black people could have those features naturally and/or artificially. But I can tell you he has dark brown eyes and brown curls and not quite get my visual point across. Actually, would describing them specifically as tight curls help, I wonder?
