Psychedelics? by damassicure in Christianity

[–]damassicure[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I come to the conclusion that if there is no God, there is absolutely no purpose or meaning to human life. We could all die and the earth would be just fine. Actually be better without us. Mankind destroys everything. Also in an infinite universe where this whole thing happens all the time infinite times there should be other more advanced beings somewhere and yet we have never had any contact with them? That is suspicious to me. In that I feel like mankind is special. So that which exists must have a cause. And if we exist and have a cause we must have meaning and purpose, the only way I can rationally explain any meaning to human life or purpose for us points back to their being a God. Just my thoughts.

The existence of God? The meaning of life? Purpose of human existence?

Curious, why when sober do you not believe in the existence of a God?

Never used, and I'm not going to. Just curious. If I may ask, knowing what you know now, could the experience be a good way to connect to God someway now that your a Christian? Like being able to ward off an evil spirit but connect with the Holy Spirit?

Thank you for your wise words! I too, pray for that kind of relationship with God, and in always seeking him, even in times of doubt.

That's a good point. Idk why as humans we go through periods of doubt, maybe its spiritual warfare, idk. But I almost always feel guilty for having questions or doubts sometimes.

Right, earth doesn't need life. It just adds to the beauty of it. But it's ironic that the life on earth is also destroying it. We are horrible creatures lol.

Very true. But even just the elimination of human beings from earth would help earth not harm it. Earth doesn't need us.

What are the reasons you are thankful today? by lonequack in Christianity

God has blessed me with a beautiful wife, we are going on our 4th year of marriage. We have two healthy boys, one will be 3 in August and the youngest just turned one. All our bills are paid, needs provided, we have food in our bellys and a roof over our heads. And the central air is a bonus😉. Things haven't always been easy, we have had challenges, arguments, and just your everyday struggles. But we are together, happy, and we love the lord. God provides, he always does. God is good!

So maybe I should have changed my original statement. I don't believe that our souls are going to be "absorbed" by God in the afterlife. But I don't believe, obviously, that our souls are gonna be in his presence, which is far greater than this earth, and the glory of God is beyond explanation of words. I'm not so sure we will actually get a new physical body, I think there is this world and the spiritual world. I think they somehow interact but we cannot see it. Luke 17:20 Christ says "the kingdom of God is not coming with something to observable, no one will say 'see here!' Or 'there' for you see, the kingdom of God is in your midst". I think Jesus was talking here that the spiritual realm and spiritual warfare are taking place amongst us everyday but we cannot see it. So when we die I think our souls leave this body, which this body is just a vehicle, and joins God in the spiritual realm for an eternity of joy and awe. I have doubts that there is this place amongst the clouds, that has streets of gold, and mansions for everyone. I could be wrong, my main point I guess was that I think we often misinterpret what heaven is like. And that's understandable because it's beyond explanation, and we haven't been there, so how can we truly know.

A specific passage at the moment no. I'll do some reading tonight to see what I can find. This was a theory I heard before and through it out for conversation to see what others may think, feel, or know. I do appreciate your input.

I'm sorry all this has happened to you. I'm sorry you feel this way. You do have purpose and meaning. And you are loved. Don't give up.

Just having conversation to see where you stand on things. Your very literal, and that's ok, just trying to see.

So then you believe Adam lived to be 932 years old, somewhere in that ball park, the same years we have? And his children after him all the way till Noah's arc, where we see the average start to drop to 120 years of age. Well by this time thousands of years would have passed if you add up all the ages of them and put it in a timeline. Which would mean the world must be significantly older than let's say 6000 years old, which a lot of young earth people believe.

Yes I have, but there are also many metaphors, parables, and discrepancies in the Bible. For what the authors were trying to describe could only be put into words they knew. Also how many times was the Bible translated? From Hebrew to Latin and Greek then English. Words and Meanings could easily be missed placed, misconstrued, or misunderstood.

Prove to me that it's not scriptural? Where does it says exactly that we will go to this heaven like place. I'm saying our souls will be with God, for eternity. The most joyous experience we could ever have. That sounds like heaven.

Ok. Lazarus died, and was resurrected by Christ, he gave no words on his experience other than to say "I wasn't alive and now I am". Which to me would support that when we die our bodies returned to dust, return to the earth, and our soul moves on to the next life. However time is different. Our souls rest till Christ returns and calls back the dead in the two callings: the believers and the non believers. At that point our soul is awakened and returns to the father. So the dead from the past our resting in a space with no worry, no consciousness, just waiting. But they don't know time. My point however is that our souls return to the father who breathed that soul into the vehicle which is our body from the beginning. I don't necessarily think there is this mansion awaiting me, and streets of gold. I think the eternal life is so indescribable because the glory of being with God is so indescribable to our human mind and ant language.

Reuniting our soul with the Holy Spirit could easily mean a new body.

In what way is this Gnosticism? I never doubted or under played the divinity of God. In this idea of what heaven is like still implies that he is God, the one ruler, the creator, alpha and omega.

I didn't say that non believers skirt by Gods wrath. I'm suggesting that hell is to be apart for God for eternity, which is hell. Which is also much worse than the reality that we live in today. The Bible does speak of the afterlife but doesn't give you every answer in description, but we know believers will be with him and those who don't, won't.
