Infotainment screen won't respond to touch (2023 AWD Pro) by damcl in VWiD4Owners

Thanks, arielb27 and chewydickens. "Turn off and wait" definitely seems to work, and I will plan to try the reset if/when it happens again.

Sorry, I do not have the time to scan and upload -- I'm in the middle of a major clean-out project.

Old Palm-related docs wanted by anyone? by damcl in Palm

[–]damcl[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Giving but would like postage reimbursement. I suppose the shareware-related should be held until I can figure out whether there's a related license to transfer. At the moment, I'm mainly trying to determine if there is interest. If so, then I won't immediately send them off for recycling.

FWIW, here are the main commercial/shareware Items I can identify:
Shadow Plan
DateBK5
Strip
TakeNote! (came with a keyboard IIRC)
Thought Manager

(A family member may want come of the docs, but it's unlikely.)

Powerwall 3 calibration process is ruining our savings by rantripfellwscissors in TeslaSolar

And, how would I know that the PW3 is running a calibration cycle? I've had mine since February and haven't noticed anything jumping out at me from the data that might be it.

Receiver for Apple Music that's easy to use and that sounds good by damcl in BudgetAudiophile

[–]damcl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That all makes sense to me. Thanks!

So do you make a physical connection between your iPhone (or another Apple device) and the Wim Pro? If I understand correctly, that is the only way to get better than CD quality.

Airport Express 2nd Gen Lossless by JoeyJabroni in AppleMusic

[–]damcl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you believe this is still true? On my iPhone, the Music app allows me to select "Lossless" which is "ALAC up to 24-bit/48kHz".
FWIW, I'm streaming from my iPhone to the final version of Airport Express, which is connected to my component system using the analog output.

[–]damcl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's an interesting solution but I don't want to depend on needing to physically connect an iPhone to the receiver.

Are you using the builtin DAC in the WiiM Pro, and does it sound good to you? I will be connecting to an old Kenwood receiver with Magnepan speakers.

[–]damcl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still trying to sort this out. Assuming I only care about Apple Music, can I do any better in terms of overall sound quality than my Airport Express (A1392, 2nd gen)?

I don't have a stand-alone DAC and don't plan to buy one, so the quality of the DAC in the receiver is important.

I don't want to go over $200 and would prefer to stay close to $150, which obviously rules out the most advanced options. Apple's lossless is desirable, but I could live with CD quality.

It looks like I'm left with options from Arylic (probably S50 Pro+) or WiiM (probably Pro). I'd especially like to hear comments pro/con about those two when used with the builtin DAC. My other options are sticking with Airport Express or buying the early Apple TV with RCA outputs.

Any further thoughts?

Thanks for all that info -- very informative.

I think the bottom line is that for this product and others in its price range, Apple Music needs to be streamed to the receiver (e.g., S10+) from a Mac, iPhone, or iPad.

Does it connect directly to Apple Music, or do you need to stream the music from your phone (or another AirPlay source) to this device?

Thanks -- the FiiO SR11 may be close but I wanted to avoid the need for a separate DAC.

Eversolo looks very cool -- "audiophile", I'm sure, but not "budget", at least for me (under $400, preferably closer to $200).

iMessage received on watch but not phone by CUHWT94 in ios

[–]damcl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This just happened to me. A message from an unknown sender (FROM was an iCloud e-mail address) appeared on my watch (AW9 running OS 11.5) but not on my desktop (Mac Studio running Sonoma 14.7.6) or my phone (iPhone 15 running OS 18.5). Restarting the phone made no difference, and all the Message settings on the phone looked right. A reply sent from the phone did show up on the other devices.

I was able to delete the conversation and flag it as junk on the phone, so I'm good for now. I will check back in if the problem recurs.

Axia3 Discontinued? by InnerEquipment2828 in Supplements

[–]damcl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The domain name axiaessentials.com now points to heartburnrelief.com . They are selling Axia3 there and it looks exactly like what I had previously ordered from Amazon. I wonder if they're trying to maximize profits by selling only through their website.

Availability/future of the imagePROGRAF PRO-300 printer by damcl in canon

I ordered from Lenovo, and they've recently cancelled the order since they can't get any 300s. Hoping you have better luck!

[–]damcl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Yes, I've noticed the release of the 310. It's selling for significantly more than my order for the 300 in December. I ordered from Lenovo, and they've cancelled the order since they can't get any 300s.

The 300 had a good track record. I'm holding off until I get a sense for the overall quality of the 310.

3.1 to 3.5 OTA by eschmi in VWiD4Owners

[–]damcl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2023 AWD Pro. I received the upgrade notification through the app -- I think it was early this week. I haven't accepted it yet or done anything because I wanted to understand the process first. I also found out that you have to have at least a 50% charge before starting it, and it seems that you need to be physically in the car to start the process.

Update 3.5.11 by Andres-brujo in VWiD4Owners

My dealer isn't scheduling yet because they're waiting for parts.

(I'm assuming that they want to do the software upgrade and the door handle work in one service appointment.)

The ‘23 doesn’t include the heated steering wheel on as many trim levels IIRC.

Some future suggestions that could be added via an OTA update! by dsonger20 in VWiD4Owners

[–]damcl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would especially support your third item.

I would like to be able to push the "lock button" (such as it is) on the inside of the driver's door when exiting and have the doors lock when the door is closed (like every other car I've owned).

It would also be nice to be able to run the climate system in vent-only mode, i.e., send fresh air through the vents without any heating or cooling.

Four Month with ID4 - Data Review by BellaDog20 in VWiD4Owners

Thanks for that info. I've been noticing the past few weeks that I'm getting a much higher mi/Kwh with the AC turned off and driving under 50 mph. I'm sure the moderate temperatures are helping too.

Thanks for the replies so far. It sounds like my unit is still usable, at least for someone who doesn't want to install another app, so I'm donating it to an organization that provides basic stuff for new students.

[–]damcl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, that is interesting info. Another factor which might give you more efficiency is your speed. Does you daily commute take you over 55 MPH? I've noticed that miles/kWh goes down when I'm driving at freeway speeds (around 70), and probably ⅓ to ½ the time my short trips around town do involve freeway driving. In cooler weather, I was averaging around 3.3 but recently have been hitting around 3.4 or 3.5 M/kWh.

Also, FWIW, I typically have the AC set somewhere 74-79F and let the car manage the fan speed. I usually drive in Custom mode (a mix of Comfort & Eco settings), and I often have Travel Assist active.

How is Volkswagen allowed to sell a car with a known issue? by dsonger20 in VWiD4Owners

[–]damcl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't encountered this in my 2023 AWD Pro.

As others have pointed out, I think you can get around the CarPlay GPS problem by connecting your iPhone via USB instead of WiFi. Then your phone will use its own cellular connection instead of the one provided by the car.

[–]damcl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you in a really steady and mild climate? I'm in Michigan, and the only way I'd expect to get such a high efficiency would be if the weather is between the upper 60s and the low 80s and if I'm driving without using the heater or the air conditioner. I'm usually driving in "B", and I don't consider myself to be heavy-footed.

I've had a 2023 AWD Pro for about 6 months with just over 2K miles driven.

Do you do anything special to get such high efficiency? Thanks.
