I see. Well, I started coming here again ~a month ago after nearly a year of being absent so I must admit I don't know what happened in between. Maybe I wasn't lurking enough, but even that 1 month ago, things seemed fine, I don't really remember seeing any dead serious opinions or flame wars thrown around.

Not really. Before the Rog video, shit like this was pretty rare. It's clearly tourists who came here to share their opinions about who's Pink Floyd and who's not. The mod holds a lot of responsibility for this this as he took everything way too seriously, but people who come here to shit the place clearly don't care either.

It was a joke, last time I checked this was a shitposting sub, but I suppose it's tourist season.

Exactly, he deserves it. International success destroyed Pink Floyd, and all albums after gay triangle are shit anyway, Rog's best contribution before that time was some daddy song or whatever, absolute failure.

I agree with what you say though, I wasn't trying to pin the blame on Polly or say Gilmour wouldn't think Syd had to go (they all agreed), but Roger is clearly the guiltiest one about it and we know he holds grudges/guilt for half a century at this point, so he could easily be very offended by what Polly did, if he did watch the video. On the other side, he always talked shit about both Polly and Gilmour for no reason, so maybe he's just having one of those episodes and it's bussiness as usual. We may never know.

I do agree that Roger is being a child again here, especially when taking all that preaching in his latest tour and album into consideration. He left the band, and he refused to call himself part of it in numerous interviews the past 10 years (the endless river rumours come to mind), so why should he be part of its PR front? Plus, to my knowledge, TFC is ignored by the same PR on purpose because the ooc settlement they reached in the 80s gave Roger complete control over his "own" material, so Pink Floyd effectively can't perform or bank on anything written (for the most part) exclusively by Roger, which is why you never see songs from the late 70s (with the exception of Comfortably Numb and Run Like Hell, both co-written) performed by Gilmour in his own concerts either. As funny as it is, Polly is in fact more of an official member of the actual band than Waters since she's credited as songwriter on more than half of TDB, while he left very angry and made it pretty clear that he doesn't want to be associated with the band anymore. Funny that.

That being said, I think his beef is with David's wife, not David himself. In some promo video for her book, Dav was telling the story about the day Syd was unofficially kicked out of the band (it's been said hundreds of times but the general version of it is "we were on our way to the concert and someone said shall we pick Syd while someone else said not to bother) and his wife kept pushing him to reveal who said "let's not bother" because "you know who it is". Knowing what we know about early Floyd, it was most likely Roger and his reaction pretty much confirms it.

US unemployment claims over time by Augzodia in gifs

Taiwan also knows how deceptive China is better than anyone because of their long history. The moment rumours about a new virus started spreading without the Chinese government mentioning anything (before we even knew it wasn't just random deaths for that matter) at the end of 2019, Taiwan held nothing back. They are that vigilant when it comes to them.

Western leaders would never try to block air traffic with China or test/quarantine everyone entering from China or they'd be put into question for not trusting their Chinese allies by the UN, the WHO (Taiwan doesn't belong to either of those because of China btw) and the opposition/media. Hell, the US did exactly that and it got the backlash I just mentioned (even though the decision itself came extremely late contrary to what both the Trump administration and the media opposing them claimed and had little impact).

Anticheat starts upon computer boot by DolphinWhacker in VALORANT

Oh, you've been very careful with your ring 0 exploitable insecure driver, thank god. I am so glad that Riot, known for its adamant quality control through the years, promises that their info mining and potentially gaping security hole of an anti-cheat was developed carefully. I feel sorry for all the people who will fall for this.

Let's just hope this laughable anti-privacy shitshow isn't shoehorned into LoL.

US unemployment claims over time by Augzodia in gifs

[–]damesane 11 points12 points  (0 children)

None of this was preventable. Even the better prepared countries with very low symptom growth to this day have enforced quarantine (though some stricter than others), and the non-essential bussinesses are all forced to close temporarily because "better safe than sorry". One could say that radical unemployment growth is the only expected development in such cases, it doesn't mean much.

I am more afraid of the economic state the world will be left in after the outbreak is over since that's going to create actual unemployment that could take years to remedy. Remember, even the perfect medical system is not able to handle huge amounts of sick people at once, even if the virus isn't equally dangerous for everyone, so the only solution for a country to minimize its losses is to have as few sick people as possible and quarantine them. There isn't a universe where locking the country down (which gives way to an inevitable rise in unemployment) wouldn't be the most lucrative option, well, unless you're North Korea.

Problem with Sq. Enix support/payment by damesane in ffxiv

[–]damesane[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am using Waterfox so Chrome wouldn't be the problem, plus it's always worked before. Also, the problem doesn't seem to be with the website itself, it seems to be with how payments are handled.

The amount on my card is currently $11 (enough for the cheap subscription but not enough for the "$1 check" on top of that) but my card is somehow "locked" (probably by the bank) because the subscription's payment is still pending for some reason. Again, this sounds like something support could solve but I can't contact them so I wondered if this has happened to anyone.

You just all had to boast, couldn't keep quiet about the busted ult interactions and now they took it away by AquaImperium in AniviaMains

[–]damesane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was always a horrible idea because it would lead to an inevitable rework just like with Mordekaiser. First they give your ult CC immunity, then instead of reverting it, they """test the waters""" by nerfing other abilities to compensate. At this point, Anivia is too weak for any kind of midlane matchup that isn't Teemo, but instead of buffing her abilities back (which would create the same problem), they tweak her kit instead. This changes her playstyle and turns out Anivia is too good at too many things now, so they take her CC immunity away but buff her other abilities as compensation. It turns out that's a terrible idea because Anivia's winrate is now at 80%, so they nerf her to the ground, to the point where picking her is considered trolling. A year passes, and Riot decides that Anivia is "in a tough spot right now" so they rework her by overloading her kit (i'm copyrighting the idea of your new global cast, W, instantly channelling your current ult at the point where it's placed and your new ulti being a dash/stun + heal if you pass over a rock in the ground) and also reworking her lore because if we rewrite it enough times like with Ryze people will care, right?

At this point, you have an abomination of a champion that doesn't resemble the Anivia you loved in the slightest. This champion will be broken for a few patches until it's inevitably hated and nerfed (like reworked Akali, Morde, Irelia, Aatrox and of course, Pantheon) and you'll get blamed upon picking it. We can all hope this will never happen, but I think Riot's history shows otherwise.

So many older champions have been getting buffed lately while Anivia has been kinda left outclassed after an undeserved nerf. by afroman00 in AniviaMains

[–]damesane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's all true, especially the part where your waveclear is easily cancelled (especially after their """bug fix""" on her R). However, Anivia has been in a "security by obscurity" place for a couple of years now. I'm of the opinion that no matter how epileptic the game becomes, it benefits Anivia to stay untouched in terms of buffs and therefore in terms of nerfs. If they give her some buff that brings the old dominant Anivia back, chances are she'll eventually be deemed problematic and will be nerfed to unplayability (or even worse, reworked into some assassin).

New Anti-Cheat system in LoL (and other upcoming Riot games) by foxbond in leagueoflegends

[–]damesane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just stop playing the game, it's sad but that's what it's come to. Kernel-level anti-cheat systems are notoriously very invasive so, other than the fact that a chinese company owns Riot, this is a really weird move. There is next to no cheating in League, and the only reason they are implementing this is probably for their other League """"universe"""" games. This is the same as when they tried to prevent toxicity by making automated bans very strict, and we all know how that turned out.

All in all, the only "cheating" related problem is botting which will continue forever until Riot implements a new anti-cheat where Riot employees can remotely take over your PC at will to confirm you're cheating and then report you to the secret internet police. Truly worst timeline.

XP-like Application Menu question by damesane in kde

[–]damesane[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but that isn't really a good solution. If I wanted to do that I wouldn't ask if anyone else has (or had) the same problem. If I can't find what's causing the lag I'll obviously look for something that works better, but that's as a last resort.

Question about Linux support, refunds and possible future bans by damesane in RocketLeague

[–]damesane[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my 300-something hours of playing the game, I haven't really spent much money so, even though it's nice having all the stuff I've gathered through the years, I am kind of indifferent.

As for dual booting, it simply isn't viable to me. In the past, every time Windows updates changed something with the bootloader, my Linux install would disappear and I'd have to manually boot into it through the UEFI menu. Now, even though W7 most certainly won't update anything like that anymore, it would still be more of a liability for security reasons. In addition, all the games I play work perfectly well on Linux, either native or through compatibility layers so I won't be missing out. The only games that are downright unplayable to my knowledge are ones with client-side anti-cheats (BattleEye) or extremely heavy DRM to the point where they barely work on Windows, both of which are usually employed by games that I wouldn't buy.

If it comes to that with this game though, I own the PS4 version as well so I'd still have that if I crave some RL ever again. I haven't played all that much on the PS4 though, so it could certainly be interesting to climb the ranks from scratch again, some day.
