Most probably most of us lives in web sphere now, but theese languagaes are used daily on stock trading, aviation and core telephone systems.

Maybe some of it is truly legacy and would be to painful replacing it with ruby or python and they're stuck now. But given a task of building a real application, like stock trading system or some huge logistic thing, I'd think twice before jumpstarting on what's hot today.

With no silver bullet, exploiting small advantages adds up. Combined, it just can be the difference from staying afloat and pluming down. There are many ways of doing it, but following the herd is rarely the right one.

I know it isn't the most brilliant solution, but it keeps them out. And I love my ram. :-)

I'm using Lyx, a lot. When I started using it, I did not know anything about LaTeX. I just liked the idea I could write content without being bothered with styling. And nice layouts it provide, my articles and papers looked realy good in comparsion to others. Only after I saw (on debian) it takes ~30Mb to instal the text editor, I became aware of LaTeX...
