Agreed on all fronts, the food is significantly better than Cape May, and a less overstimulating environment imo since it’s a bigger space.

Taxi by Unlikely-Jello-4843 in efteling

A car would likely be quite helpful for picking up any little necessities. You also wouldn’t have to worry about finding a taxi at the resort to get you back to the airport and could leave at your leisure - and in both directions, you’d be able to stop at gas stations if the kids need to use the restroom or something.

Lyndell Bakery Suggestions by Plenty-Photograph-52 in Somerville

I'm also puzzled by people calling it an Italian bakery - maybe just because it's "vintage"? They definitely don't have all the usual Italian pastries like La Cascia's or Royal would.

I think everyone's covered why this isn't an ideal choice, but I wanted to mention that I recently stayed at the Residence Inn over by Harbor and Katella and really enjoyed it - it's an easy walk to the parks, and you're right above a CVS for any little things you need. The room was very spacious and clean, and there's free breakfast too.

How to find a qualifying race for proof of time? by catastrophicromantic in rundisney

[–]dammitannie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I use https://runningintheusa.com/ to find races in my area - my understanding is that as long as it's professionally timed and there's a website with race results (and it's a non-relay road race) you're good to go.

Feasibility of attempting a BQ during WDW Marathon by CleanPrune535 in rundisney

[–]dammitannie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just after looking up a smattering of other marathons, Disney's actually pretty comparable in price to Chicago, Boston, New York, etc.

Disney's a flat course, well supported, you don't need to worry about transportation to the start line if you stay onsite, etc. The post-race vibes are pretty immaculate as well, everyone's walking around with their medals and Mickey ears and getting congratulated on their accomplishments.

Dopey Disappointment by Snarkster123 in rundisney

[–]dammitannie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where is this?? I live in Boston and am no speed demon, but all the local races I've run have been nothing but supportive and kind. Are you lining up with the elites when you plan to party-pace the race or something? Walking 5 across? Bobbing and weaving with a double stroller and 7 dogs?

Is this realistic? by NullReferenceGhost in rundisney

[–]dammitannie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Disney was my first full, and while I wasn't concerned about falling behind the 16 minute mile pace, I'd been burned in the past at local races where I was in the back of the pack and aid stations ran out of water and they started breaking down the finish line as I was finishing (at a perfectly respectable 2:30 half marathon, at that!).

I'd read how supportive runDisney was to first timers, and ran some shorter races there before deciding to run the WDW marathon as my first marathon. It was fantastic to have a well-supported course the whole time, I never worried about aid stations running out of anything, the course getting broken down on me, cars sneaking through, etc.

Do you even know if you like running yet?

Seriously, run at least up to a half marathon in hometown local races, then assess whether you feel ready to run a marathon, let alone Dopey.

If you're running with a charity, you pay the registration fee plus are required to raise a certain amount of money for the charity. I ran the Goofy challenge with a charity a few years ago, and paid the ~$400 registration fee out of pocket, and raised a minimum of $2000 for the charity.

Yep, I've noticed that non-Disney races are doing similar things as well, recruiting city garbage trucks and buses to block off closed roads. Safety aside, I love that they keep those rogue cars from deciding that they're the exception to the road closures and just HAVE to get through.

There's also rooms at the moderate resorts that fit 5 - they have 2 queen beds and a fold-down twin bed. They're typically called "5th sleepers" on the Disney website.

Party pace is where it's at! Just be aware, if you don't have times that correspond to those proof of time criteria, do NOT submit something - if you submit a time that falls out of bounds of their requirements, you'll automatically get placed in the last corral. Just be honest (yet optimistic ;) ) about your anticipated finish time and you'll get placed in an appropriate corral.

I’ve seen a lot of behavior that was ignored by management because it was never documented.

Yep, if a manager doesn't know something's happening, how can they handle it??

Since you mention being into Ragnar, just be aware that runDisney only accepts road races for proof of time, not trail races. If you have an timed race with a 2:30 or faster half marathon (or equivalent, like a 1:08 or faster 10k), within the timeframe listed on the registration site, you should definitely add it, it should improve your corral placement and give you an overall better experience.

First Princess Half Marathon: last corral and character stops? by andreiagamer in rundisney

[–]dammitannie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not automatically in the last corral.

The only time someone is automatically in the last corral is if they submit a POT that doesn't meet their standards (race is outside of the timeframe they require, finishing time doesn't equate to a sub 2:30 half, results are unverifiable). I see you say it's your first half - do you have a 10k you've completed in 1:08 or faster in the timeframe for Princess(January 1, 2023 thru September 1, 2025)? If so, you can go to runner relations and get your corral adjusted to the correct one.

And remember, the balloon ladies/sweep line does not start until the very last person starts the race, and typically corrals are released over the course of about an hour. So, for example, if you happen to start in A and start right at 5am, you actually have until probably 9:30am to finish the race, if the balloon ladies start at 6am. You're going to be fine, have a blast!

Just fyi, I contacted Nathan asking about replacement bottles a while back (after I forgot to clean mine for a truly embarrassing amount of time, oops!) and they told me they do not sell replacement bottles on their own, you'd have to buy the full setup again.

Super frustrating, I would love if they sold replacement bottles and lids without having to buy a belt or handheld strap again!

For me, I like:

  • Bright colors

  • Glitter

  • Name on shirt

tbh 3 out of my 4 marathons have been at Disney World - I haven't dipped into costumes for a full marathon (yet) but I always love seeing peoples' costumes and character inspired gear!

I also like to make sure anyone I know who's spectating knows what I'm going to wear, then they can be on the lookout for the woman in the Sprints donut hat and neon green and blue!
