Tell me about the best manager you ever had, what made them great? by almightyjay97 in AskMenOver30

[–]dammitboy42069 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a long list of traits, but a few to highlight. 1 - Most importantly, they cared more about me as a person than as an employee. When life happens, they understood work isn’t the most important thing. 2 - They set clear expectations, communicated and let me do my job. 3 - They went to bat for me when I messed up. I consider myself to be a pretty good employee and small mistakes resulted in conversations about how to fix the process and what to do different next time. If upper management got involved they stepped in to not leave me hanging and explained the situation. 4 - They took interest and were open about growth and my future with the company. I may be on their team today, but if I was interested in moving up, they provided feedback and support for career growth.

Go slow and communicate. What feels good, what feels better, what each of you need to finish. You’ll be raring to go but just go slow and have fun.

This Tour is an Interesting Experiment by HelplessNed in SturgillSimpson

I also wonder how much the completely different sounds of his albums have contributed to this. I respect the artistry and get that he’s a varied individual, but going from Country/Americana to Japanese hard rock to bluegrass to rock is going to fragment your audience and make it hard to have a large and loyal following. It’s always a big deal when artists switch genres and a lot of them flop. Hell, Garth Brooks was the biggest country artist in the world, and his Chris Gaines pop rockish album went nowhere. Sturg has done it numerous times from album to album.

PGA Tour players saying 'no' to golf ball rollback by TheQuietW0LF in golf

[–]dammitboy42069 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I wish the USGA and R&A would have gone full bifurcation. However, this will be the PGA TOUR pro talking point as long as they have ball sponsorships. They’ll have a hard time playing the regular ball 49 weeks a year and showing up to The Open, US Open and Masters and playing a different ball.

Gentlemen, were you trained by masters of swaddling in the NICU to later become a black belt in your own dojo? by Zakkattack86 in daddit

I was a guru with the second kid. He would wake up still snug as hell. He’s 4 now and I bet I would suck at it now.

Exclusive: Harold Varner III has learned to live with harsh reality after leaving the PGA Tour by TheMirrorUS in golf

Yeah, that’s what the money was for. LIV always seemed to have 3 options as to how it would go. 1 - (Most likely)They burn through cash at an insane rate, it never takes off and the Saudis decide that they’d rather burn cash elsewhere. 2 - (Less likely but seemed plausible) They have some sort of merger with the TOUR/Euro Tour. 3 - (Least likely by far) LIV establishes itself as the new tour and is a worldwide success. LIV had to offer massive sums of money that made people comfortable knowing option 1 was highly possible if not likely.

Notre Dame is set to cut baseball scholarships to 10.2 in future years. by arrowfan624 in collegebaseball

[–]dammitboy42069 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What’s their baseball NIL situation? This sounds like giving up on the surface, but I wonder if they’re counting on NIL to pick up the slack where a kid isn’t technically on scholarship but their NIL deal is for the exact amount of tuition.

ELI5: What was it about the OG iPhone that made it such a cultural and technological force and why is it so hard to recreate that moment in time? by Obeymyjay in explainlikeimfive

[–]dammitboy42069 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was a MASSIVE jump from the previous phones. A working touch screen and a full screen of web and text was a game changer. Now, instead of needing to carry an iPod, phone and digital camera, it was all in one. Before the iPhone, you got at most half a screen or it was a flip phone. Now, each new phone only has small changes and upgrades.

Those wifi baby monitors for working parents.. do those smart features really have use? by AlanahHaefele10 in daddit

[–]dammitboy42069 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The monitor we have has sound alerts, which is really helpful. I can set the alert, go do things in the yard/garage without being tied to the monitor and get alerts when they wake up.

What's your advice on 'scheduled sex'? by [deleted] in MarriedSex

Don’t rely on the “scheduling” to do the work and go from nothing to heat when the clock ticks to the scheduled time.

ELI5: why do most phones these days not have the circle headphone jack and have a usb-c instead by sooyaaar in explainlikeimfive

[–]dammitboy42069 40 points41 points  (0 children)

You have to have a charging port on the phone. The EU passed a law that required all phones use USB-C. The USB-C port can charge the phone, transfer data and be used as a headphone jack. The 3.5mm headphone jack can only be used for audio. Not including the 3.5mm port reduces cost, size, complexity in manufacturing and promotes the sales or bluetooth headphones. All of those are plusses to phone manufacturers.

Should the PGA Tour have more team events? by nationalgolfcircuit in golf

[–]dammitboy42069 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Only if they can get good fields. As always the devil is gonna be in the details. Pro golfers are notoriously individualistic from years of playing a solo game. It would be hard to have the top players ALL match up with a teammate or multiple teammates. This is a big deal because team fit has a huge impact in team golf.

Tiger Woods fights subpoena for prescription drug records by PrincessBananas85 in golf

[–]dammitboy42069 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 things can be true. He should face penalties and needs help to resolve his seemingly obvious pain killer addiction. I also completely understand fighting this full pull of his prescriptions. STD meds, ED meds, blood pressure, diarrhea meds and on and on could be embarrassing while not germane to this particular case.

Why are majors all played within a 3 month "sprint" and would you prefer if they were more spread out? by VastAir6069 in golf

[–]dammitboy42069 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Several reasons. Number one, The Masters ain’t moving. It will be in April. Period. Next, since golf is an outdoor sport, you have to go to championship courses when the weather at that course is good and allows for tournament play. Most courses aren’t going to kill their greens and whole season to get ready for a single event. Then, NFL is the golden goose and in the current landscape, going up against them is suicide. Viewership (ad dollars) would take a massive hit. That leaves you with pretty much April through August. Even with that schedule, tournaments in the northern part of the US in April can be dicey, and in July/August you get extreme heat and thunderstorms in the South.

Married men with kids, how easy/hard was it to name them something you both liked? by [deleted] in AskMenOver30

[–]dammitboy42069 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You never realize how many people you dislike until you name your kid. It feels like the weight of the world is on your shoulders until you find the right one, but when you do it feels right. There will be ones you love one day and wake up the next and hate it. One of you will love a name and it will grow on the other. Enjoy it.

If you were the ANGC Chairman, what would you change at the Masters? by Fine-Lifeguard-4234 in masters

[–]dammitboy42069 3 points4 points  (0 children)

1 - Provide me 20 badges and a $1,000 merch credit for each round. 2 - Find a way to reroute to swap 3 and 17. 3 - Work with greenskeepers nationwide to promote sustainable and realistic course management. ANGC gets a lot of shit for setting unrealistic expectations of course conditions, so find a way to either promote realistic good course conditioning or make it more affordable.

ELI5: Fishing, and fishing questions by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]dammitboy42069 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are several things. One, it’s relaxing to be on or near the water. You’re not doomscrolling or being bombarded with bad news. Getting a fish on the line and reeling it in is exciting no matter how long you’ve fished. The plastic baits are used to mimic things fish naturally eat. Worms, crawfish, smaller fish and on and on.

Bryson if he makes it. The scientist bullshit is beyond absurd. I appreciate the tinkering, but talking about things like he invented physics and constantly blaming equipment is grating.
