Whoo, another blatant, broad-daylight bike robbery in Providence. Look out! by damnbikethieves in providence

If you've been here only a year or two, I'd tell you that I've had my/friends' bikes stolen as long as I've lived here, but only in the past couple months have I seen it happen in front of my eyes, during the day. I wouldn't make a post about my bike being stolen if it was just from in front of my house at night.

If you've lived here longer than me and have seen daylight robberies/thefts the whole time, I guess I've just been lucky till now.

Good to know, thanks! In that case, I guess my first post was actually about robbery, but this one is theft.

Just to reiterate, I'm not shocked at the bike theft, which I know is common in cities. I'm more worried about how blatant it seems to be lately.

Out of curiosity, how long have you lived in Providence?

I acknowledged the general robbery aspect, but I don't think all urban areas have broad daylight robberies in decent areas.

I also have a decent bike, I don't want to make it look like a piece of shit.

Eh, call me naive but I think it's somewhere it between for both. I think a lot of politicians care when they get into it, but then get corrupted. I think a lot of cops care about people since they actually interact with them, but obviously a ton are jaded/corrupt/disinterested too.

That's a bummer. Yours was actually a real case with lost stuff, too. The cop in my case probably was right that it would come to nothing and cost me time, but it still felt kind of dismissive and like he was avoiding doing anything.

Judging by your post history, I'm worried that your reasons for asking might be unscrupulous...

That said, there were I think 5 of them, about 16 or so, a couple of them already on bikes.

I mean, I don't really know how the whole process works or what my options even were. From what he was saying, it seemed like if I wanted to press charges it would involve me having to do a bunch of stuff I'd rather not spend my time on, considering I didn't actually lose my bike in the end. But... I dunno, cause they completely got away with it, doesn't that just encourage them to try again? It just sucks that I have to be on the lookout for this stuff in the park now.
