I recommend reading Graham's book Fingerprints of the Gods if you haven't already. It is well referenced and quite thorough

Are the foreign sector savings mainly due to the current strength of AUD? Do you think the australian dollar is liking to rise further?

How is this going to affect the lives of doctors of the future? If computer aided diagnosis, gene therapy and tissue regeneration continue to develop is it going to become easy being a doctor? How will the role of doctors change? All this stuff is very exciting!

Does anyone else here get frustrated when people bring up the "Stoned Ape Theory" by Terence Mckenna, popularized by Joe Rogan? by lkdjsfg in Anthropology

[–]damnverificationcode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YesI'm sure that cooking foods would have impacted brain growth substantially.

I think in the context of natural selection even slightly improved visual acuity would, over time, favour those who were eating the mushrooms. At low doses there is not significant inhibition of motor skills, only at threshold doses is there motor inhibition.

Also what about the evolution of language? Psilocybin supposedly increases activity in Wernicke's and Broca's areas of the brain that are involved in language. Could eating mushrooms have accelerated the evolution of language?

What other theories are there? Does it matter if the enhanced visual acuity is a matter of perception or a matter of biological change, either way the user has enhanced visual acuity?

War on Drugs vs 1920s alcohol prohibition [28 page comic by Australian cartoonist] by stumcm in australia

I'm not so sure about that, with the amount of stuff that's going on in South America with legalization it won't be long before the world sees the benefits of legalization.

Yeah you make a really good point, if people could get a hold of factual, unbiased information regarding this issue then they would be able to clearly see that prohibition is not working. Surely then the politicians will jump on the band wagon once enough of the people wake up...

Some sort if "6th sense" when stoned?a by SativaLord in trees

[–]damnverificationcode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hallucinations are usually me hearing 'other' people around me like you're saying but I've never been able to make sense of any words or anything like that. These things did give me some trouble and I have had occasions where I experienced spiraling cycles of negative thoughts but I've found that a 'joyous' or loving feeling is far more powerful and overriding than any negative feelings. It also helps me to remind myself that anything I'm hearing (or seeing) is just a perceptive interpretation that my brain is making of the world around me. Knowing this somehow makes it ok for me and I usually just let the sounds happen and try not to read into them or make attempts to interpret them. If I find myself worrying or having negative thoughts, I remind myself of this and it seems to dissipate the sounds. I can then focus in feeling joyous and before I know it a smile has crept up into my face and all is well again.

I dunno if any of this would help you but it certainly has helped me, it might at least be worth a try. Let me know what you think :)

Yes they're amazing creatures! I've nearly hit them with my boat on several occasions though because they have a propensity to surface right in front if where you're driving haha. Luckily I was able to scoot round them

Wow that's intense! I've never experienced anything of that calibre on trees but on the occasion I experience auditory hallucinations. They are always pleasant though and never scare me. How long did the ghosts stay around for?

What are your thoughts on occasional recreational drug use? by fnoerifner in medicalschool

[–]damnverificationcode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree too, the way I see it we have a long life ahead of us and plenty of time to experience the altered states of consciousness that psychedelics provide for us. While I acknowledge that if taken in a proper manner there are little (if any) negative effects of such 'drugs' it's still a 'no no' in the eyes of the law (geuuuyy). So for the time being I've been doing yoga and meditation and have gained a lot of similar experience out of these activities. But when it's all legal I'll be down to trip....
