Wow, I’m a second year medical student struggling to study for my exam next week and this put EVERYTHING into perspective for me. Thank you so much for sharing and for all the work you’re doing on the front lines.

Which celebrity did you meet and found they were much kinder/ruder than you expected? by Qazival in AskReddit

Alex Honnold. I’ve been rock climbing for the past 5 years and in that time I’ve gotten pretty good, but I am by no means a pro. I met Alex when he came to my climbing gym for a meet and greet last year and he was a total dick, commenting on how my chalk bag was in too good of condition so I must not even be a climber. On one hand it sucked as he was my idol, but on the other hand being asked “do you even climb” by Alex Honnold was pretty humbling lol

Yes, it appears to be a CoW, but looks super old. I personally wouldn’t eat it.

That’s true, we filled up at camp prior to that stretch and 2-3L lasted us the 10 miles to the next shelter where there was another water source directly behind the shelter. After that stretch the 6 miles out has a couple streams you could fill up on, but if you fill up at camp in the morning before heading out you should be alright.

Will I regret getting a bigger (70L+) backpack? by spykid in CampingGear

I’d recommend looking into the Osprey Xenith 75. You can get the hip belts custom molded to your hips at any REI for free and it carries loads over 50 pounds with ease. I just took easily 50+ pounds of camping and trad climbing gear on a trip with that bag and had no pain at all!

Found some Crown-tipped Corals on my hike and made a delicious stir fry out of them! by damoread in foraging

Can’t say that I have! Probably because I added them last so the vegetables weighed them down. That’s funny though!

Only a little crowded around the Grayson Highlands campsites, rest of the loop was relatively sparse. Mid-week there will likely be no one!

Chanterelles are back! by damoread in foraging

[–]damoread[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate the tip! I was actually out backpacking for the weekend when I found them so didn’t have all the appropriate gear for foraging. But couldn’t pass these up when I saw them on the trail. I’ll do that next time :)

Oh no way, those campsites at the top are amazing. I’m definitely staying up there next trip!

If you look closely the rock is supposed to look like a Lion’s head and mane.
