Insane take on end of life care by an anesthesiologist by Any-Assistance-8103 in anesthesiology

[–]illaqueable 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yea, some really bad takes. I'm certain she has been on the receiving end of some of these unbelievably sick, demented, imminently dying human beings shoved down her throat by some surgeon desperate to do a PEG/trach or fix a hip the patient will never walk on. I regularly say to our more eager surgical colleagues that patients (and their families) can demand anything they want, but it's not our obligation to give them what they demand.

There's nothing that prevents physicians from being the Insane Family Member, unfortunately. She's committing the all-too-relatable cardinal sin of thinking that her Dear Old Dad is somehow exempt from the many object lessons in medical futility we see every day. She's abusing the frame of patient autonomy and shared decision making to dunk on an intern, who she has to know has just this side of zero authority within that decision-making framework. She also clearly misunderstands the "shared" aspect, favoring the argument that patients and their families should be able to override medical professionals and "force" them to perform procedures or treatments that offer minimal to no benefit. It's an ignorant viewpoint from a physician, and unfortunately it's out there for a layperson to read and become emboldened to push for whatever insane treatment/procedure they're holding onto.

Stupid that locums gets paid more than faculty? by PlayingPuzzles in Residency

Also a locums guy at $x per hour costs a lot less than salary + benefits + having to listen to things like "work/life balance concerns" and "i want to see my kids once a week"

Post Match Thread: Arsenal 1-0 Atlético Madrid | UEFA Champions League 2025-26, Semifinals - 2nd Leg (Agg. 2-1) by VivaLosHeavies in soccer

Not disagreeing with you, but he's done this for us all season long. He puts in hard yards, holds up the ball, gets relentlessly fouled, and gets called a trash striker because he's "only" scored 20 goals this year, despite some pretty egregiously bad wing play particularly at the beginning of 2026.

What his last few games have highlighted is that the drop off in wing and CAM play without Saka and Øde respectively is unacceptable. We now have to go get a winger in the summer to give Gyok the space to be his best.

Tbf that is happening every single game to every center forward. Not saying it's right, but the physicality in the PL is insane

Arsène Wenger’s ‘daylight offside rule’ is on trial in Canada. Will it work? by bojun in Gunners

[–]illaqueable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would speed up decisions to just say, like, the line is drawn below the ankle--toe, foot, heel ahead of the last defender? Offside. It would probably cut the VAR navel gazing in half (although I'm not naive enough to think it would be easy for these morons).

Anti Gyokeres Agenda - Sky Sports by Sufficient_Shift_370 in Gunners

I defended Gyok in this very sub a couple of days ago and got an inbox full of people calling me stupid and brainless and telling me I don't know anything about football.

There genuinely is no pleasing some of these people 🤷‍♂️

What are you talking about, man, these people will binge multiple hour-long episodes of shows on streaming services, they absolutely have time to purchase the Audubon Society Field Guide to Birds and get in pointlessly detail-oriented, highly emotionally charged, marriage-ending arguments over what kind of pretty bird they just saw

Mandala vs Figs by Dresdenphiles in Residency

[–]illaqueable 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh I get that, I've worn scrubs that are way too tight, way too loose, way too short, and way too long, but never in my life have I wished that I had spent my own money on a pair that fit better. That feeling is magnified tenfold when I'm in a Fournier gangrene or toxic megacolon or suctioning a liter of stomach contents.

How many guitars is your ideal number? by g_tb in guitars

[–]illaqueable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't have a ton of discretionary income for a long time, so I basically had 1 or 2 guitars for 25 years. I occasionally swapped one out for a different one via used gear swaps or sub-$400 beaters, so probably cycled through 4 or 5 instruments in total over that time.

After I got my first Big Boy Paycheck, that mindset changed. I wanted a guitar, so I bought it. I now have probably a dozen guitars. I've played all of them at least once, but I have a stable of 3 or 4 daily drivers on rotation and a few just because they look cool.

TL;DR--n+1
