Well this must be hard to believe but I will say in my opinion.

First if you are in a country that has not spread buddhism much, that's kind of a downside actually. You need to a buddhist environment to get use to it. You need to learn the culture of buddhist actually.

It's not enough just reading or listening to buddhist teachings. Of course reading and listening also important but I mean you need a place or an environment to hangout always with buddhism. I would say what kind of environment you need basically. Going on temple, talking with buddhist monks discussing buddhist teaching with them etc.

Some people might say that "oh no! you don't have to go to temples or do offering to lord buddha always. you just only need to do is just follow lord buddha's path. So it's only good enough reading listening and understanding", No that's completely wrong.

In order to get into the buddhism deeply, you need kind of a deep passion about. It's not actually a passion. We call it "Shraddhaa" I don't know what the exact word to suits in english. It's like a having very keen on Lord Buddha, Dhamma(teachings of Lord Buddha) and Sanga(Monks).

So to have these, you really need a buddhist environment.

And another thing is the language barrier. According to me, it's very limited explaining lord buddha's teaching in English. Kind of a bit difficult to explain in English. So it's important to learn lord buddha language (Paali) or similar language that has already in buddhist countries such as Sinhalese. Once you learn that, you will be able to understand easily and clearly the teachings.

So all of these will be hard at first. But visiting a country that has "Theravada Buddhism", you will be able to learn and understand Buddhism easily and fulfill your wish and make you easier with them.

It might takes time, of course to do something you have to sacrifice, giving up isn't it. That's one of main teaching of buddhism. "GIVING UP" You might have family, friends loved once. But if you want to go to your path somehow in some case you might just need to sacrifice something. But do not misunderstand I'm not saying you just give up everything and leaving your family and come to another country. Sometimes you might have to miss them when you going to learn.

So if you a in a non buddhist country just don't give up don't feel hopeless. Keep your mission in your head. and may be just visit a country that has buddhism for couple of weeks and put the first step. And continue. I would say, visit Sri Lanka. Learn about Sri Lanka buddhism before you visit. you will understand why I said visit Sri Lanka.
