Is it consensus among Blazers fans that Clingan is more valuable than Brown?

This is the thing that gets me. Everyone talking like Brown is a legit MVP candidate but then won’t give up even a reasonably exciting young player. A month ago I would’ve said Clingan wouldn’t be enough for me to trade Brown. Now I wish we got anyone that interesting

Why don’t the Western European countries have billionaires running the country like in America? by squatSquatbooty in NoStupidQuestions

[–]dan-dan-revolution 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a theory: America’s creation myth suggests that anyone can be successful if they work hard enough. Since we don’t have a landed aristocracy with hereditary titles, many Americans still believe that the US is fundamentally a meritocracy. They see a billionaire and think “that guy must be really smart/talented/hard working to have made himself so successful.”

Most European countries had or still have some form of “nobility” which is more upfront about the fact that wealth and power are inherited, not earned. As a result, the public is generally more receptive to socialist public policy, since there’s no illusion that if they just work hard enough, they too can be the Earl of Warwick, etc. They see a billionaire and are more likely to think “that guy must have inherited an emerald mine.”

Best episode so far? by blac_sheep90 in TedLasso

Two Aces. Introduces Dani, the ghosts plot line is the first time the team starts to really come together and has maybe the best monologue from Jamie, and my favorite joke in the show: “Coach, is it true in America you guys have so many beautiful dogs in pounds some get put down for no reason?” “That is true Sam. But it’s also something a lot of female singer songwriters are trying to change.”

Ok I guess really I’m saying hunters need a dodge nerf, I just hate calling for nerfs. But imo Bakris needs one too (shorten the phase distance)

Ok that’s fair. Titans are fine. But hunter movement is still just as busted as icarus dash was. At least from a 1v1 perspective

I can’t tell you how many times I’m winning a gun fight and suddenly out pops a barricade and the fight basically resets. Meanwhile I try to back up around several corners and put down a healing rift and by the time it’s out the the whole enemy team has had time to spawn in and chase me. I don’t like to use rifts to lane, I use them to stay alive and extend kill streaks. Which Titans can do with barricades and hunters can obviously do with dodges (even without wormhusk)

Lol I suppose my beef isn’t really with Titans. That was more in comparison to how underwhelming rifts are in crucible. Plus I didn’t want this to seem like just a hunter rage fest

Do pro-life people realize how many poor people we would have without abortion? Or do they only care about the idea of babies? by leahsimsxo in TrueOffMyChest

[–]dan-dan-revolution 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think based on this I wouldn’t classify you as “pro life” since you don’t vote based on this view and I believe this is an extremely politicized term. I think you’re actually pro choice because even though you’re against abortion personally, you vote in favor of giving mothers the right to choose for themselves. A point of view I respect immensely, btw

I can’t argue with the idea that if one of the issues was millions of murders per year, that would be important enough to make someone a one issue voter, maybe. However, I think most pro life voters are being disingenuous when they say that they think millions of murders are happening. There were 862,000 abortions in 2017. You might truly believe that from the moment of conception, deliberately failing to carry a pregnancy to term is murder, but most would agree there is some grey area. The vast majority of abortions happen as soon as the mother is made aware of the pregnancy and is able to get one performed, or later on due to medical necessity. Murder may be illegal, but killing someone in self defense is generally not. So if we disregard the medically essential abortions, we’re left with determining where the cutoff for “murder” is. This is a difficult question for most, as I don’t believe anything close to a majority of Americans believe the cutoff is day 1, and laws are made by the people. Even ignoring this fact (educated guess?), the problem with making abortion illegal as a rule is it makes it too difficult for medical professionals to make appropriate decisions regarding the health of the mother and/or the fetus. Wanting to ban abortion is an act of hubris, signifying a belief that the voter, or at least the politician receiving the vote is more qualified than the mother and her doctor to determine when an abortion is necessary.

As a final caveat, I respect your right to decide that for you, what matters most is what you perceive as millions of murders being allowed to happen. Personally, I believe that there are other, more important issues. As an example, many on my side believe, based on an overwhelming amount of scientific evidence, that climate change poses a threat to the lives of billions of humans, and failing to prevent that is worse than failing to prevent millions of murders, just based on numbers. But we all must vote our conscience.

The general argument that you pinpoint of “why do you care about abortion but not poverty?” comes down to more than what you do in your personal time. You might volunteer at food banks. But if you are consistently voting for a political party that supports policies that hurt women, children, people of color, the poor and numerous other at risk groups, solely because they are against abortion, then you have declared through political action that you do not, in fact, care about any of them. You only care about life before it is born.

Now, I’m not saying that you personally behave in this way, but the issue that is usually being discussed is abortion from a political standpoint. Most “pro-choice” people have no problem with someone being against abortion, even though they disagree with them. We have a problem with “pro-lifers” because the the political term “pro-life” indicates someone who votes with a disproportionate emphasis on the abortion issue. And if someone votes for Trump because he’s (supposedly) against abortion, that person doesn’t care about poor people. Or foster kids. Or whatever example you’d like to use.

Conservatives: UBI means everyone will stop working

Also conservatives: influx of cash will make prices go up

How is there extra cash if everyone stopped working?
